Update time

QuoteHello and welcome back to another update of Forgotten Hope 2.

Today we are very excited to reveal something that has been sitting idle in our "vault" for quite some time now. It is the Curtiss-Wright P-40E Kittyhawk!

Forum post image

Forum post image

The P-40 was a single-seat, all-metal fighter/ground-attack plane that was developed by the American, Curtiss-Wright Corporation. Its design was nothing more than an updated version of the earlier, Curtiss P-36 Hawk. Armed with 6x .50 M2 Browning machine guns, the P-40 saw extensive use 28 different air forces, across a host of different battlefields. Known to the British as the "Kittyhawk", the P-40 would play a critical role in North Africa, providing close air support. Nearly 14,000 P-40s were built by the time production ceased in November of 1944. The P-40E Kittyhawk was originally made by Rad and Lobo, finished by Herc, and exported by Stubbfan.

I would just like to point out that this was only the Kittyhawk to the Brits. It was the Warhawk to the USAAC. I hope that clears up any name confusion people might have.

Re: Forgotten Hope 2

QuoteHi fellow FH fans and FH players!

As you might have heard of, very recently a commercial game was released titled "Army Rage" (Army Rage), which consists of a large amount of assets (weapons, vehicles, textures, sounds etc) taken from Forgotten Hope 2 without our permission. The publisher "Yacuba Games" and developer "Tuyasoft" are thus illicitly profiting from the creativity of the Forgotten Hope developers. We have evidence documented here: Forgotten Hope vs. Army Rage

We have contacted the CEO of Yacuba Games (Delzar Khalaf), but he has generally ignored our requests. From the onset he has responded with denial in spite of obvious evidence, then falsely claimed it was removed. In a new version released a few days ago, they have tried to cover up more of our material in an apparent attempt to hide their origins.

As of now, we are in contact with various service providers to have "Army Rage" taken off-line, but this may take some time, and in the mean while, unwitting gamers may spend their money on a game that eventually may be shut down. We're hoping to inform them that, for now, "Army Rage" is an unsafe investment.

So, the FH team needs your help. We ask you to post comments, e-mails, reviews, tweets, youtubes, reddits, slashdots; in your own wording and to your own discretion, what you think about this matter. We hope that, as result, no informed gamer will waste their money on the cheap knockoff title that "Army Rage" strives to be.

Please note that while Yacuba Games and Tuyasoft are engaging in illegal activities, we will NOT accept personal attacks on individuals involved with these companies. Do not attempt anything illegal. Shame them, expose them, let them know how you feel, but remember that "two wrongs do not make a right". Keep things honest and respectable.

Re: Forgotten Hope 2

Wow, that is absolute bullshit. I love the fact they were seemingly in such a hurry to get this piece of shit game out that they forgot to cover up details of the artists they were nicking stuff from. I wish the FH2 team all the best for their upcoming battles with the developer and publisher of Army Rage, the evidence is clearly in your favor.

Re: Forgotten Hope 2

To be honest at first I didnt really understand the problem. I thought they only stole the battlefield concept with flags and vechicles and stuff because you cant have copyright on that. Right? XD
But then when I started to read the forgotten hope vs army rage it went banana overdose. Have they even made one singel thing themself? Its like they have taken a frame. And then taken pieces of other peoples paintings into one singel mega painting and put their name on it.

Shame on you Yacuba!

Well, I've been a long time BF1942 player and loved the FH mod.
Then was hoping for BF1943, and was playing 2142. So FH got sort of lost along the side...

Re: Forgotten Hope 2

I guess you didn't reinstall bf2 when resetup your PC. The problem is that you have no key in your registry which the game requires to join a server. Try to find a program called bfcdkey.exe (dunno remember the exact name) in your bf2 folder. Afaik the program is in a folder called "services". it will ask you for a cd key you type yours in and confirm after that start the game and play.

QuoteBardia will get an visual overhaul in version 2.45 (Originally by Lobo and Vic Colfari, modified and updated by Natty and Fenring)

Now with proper eroded surrounding terrain to give more realistic and huge Battlefield feeling and less of Counter Strike map (upsized from 512x512 meters to 1x1 km)
Added brand new sky and lighting
    Brand new terraintextures
    Improved undergrowth
Rearranged some overgrowth into zones so the map looks less cluttered and more visual and gameplay wise logical
Smoothed out some sharp terrain that was unecessary and annoying to move over

Up to the last minute our designers and artists tweak the maps to give you guys the most rewarding experience we can offer. We found out a way to get additional terrain detail by baking a high resolution heightfield and merging the directional light into the colormap. This allows for additional terrain detail and realism on the Battlefield 2 engine previously tought impossible. This was applied to the surrounding terrain areas on keren.

I have a problem atm with my FH2. I join servers but gets kicked out in like... 2 sec? With the only explanation that my punkbuster is too old.
They said that I should look it up on autobalance.com or something like that.
So I did and I downloaded the punkbuster auto updater program. I choose BF2 ( I guess FH2 doesnt have their own pb?, no offensive.) pb updates and started updating. It updated and all and I tried it out.
The same problem again. Help me out? ;>

Update time

QuoteHello and welcome back to another update of Forgotten Hope 2.

It has been a few weeks since our last update, and to make up for that, we have an update that is jam packed full of new content. To kick things off, we have a render of a new type of grenade for the common US infantry solider; the Mk. III A1 Offensive Hand Grenade!

Forum post image

The Mk. III was a concussion grenade, and was designed to incapacitate targets through the pressure and impulses produced when the grenade exploded. The weapon contained 8oz. of TNT and would often throw large fragments of the fuze assembly and surrounding material up to ranges 200m, despite the fact that the Mk. III was not a fragmentation grenade. The large explosions produced by this grenade made it not only successful against enemy soldiers, but also as an effective tool for blasting and demolition. The Grenade Hand, Offensive Mk. III A1 was made by Herc and Toddel.

Up next we have a render of the first ever machine gun that was fired from an aircraft; the Lewis Aircraft Gun!

Forum post image

The Lewis gun in its aerial configuration was used extensively on British and French aircraft during the First World War. Its popularity came from being light-weight, air-cooled, and the fact that it could be fitted with 97-round drum magazines. By World War II however, the Lewis Gun was largely replaced on aircraft by the Vickers Gun, which could achieve twice the firing rate of the Lewis. However, the weapon was still used on some British and US Army aircraft, and in FH2, the Lewis Gun will be present on the back of the Hawker Hardy. The Lewis Aircraft Gun was made by Herc and exported by Kev4000.

Our next render is of a new aircraft for the American pilots serving in the harsh deserts of North Africa; the Supermarine Spitfire Mk. Vb Trop!

Forum post image

Although the Spitfire had already proved successful in the RAF, the Sptifire was used to equip the 4th, 31st, and 52nd fighter groups of the USAAF in the summer of 1942. The Spitfire Mk. Vb Trop was created by Rad, textured by Toddel and Herc, and exported by ctz.

Our last render for this week is of another RAF aircraft. It is the Hawker Hurricane Mk. I

Forum post image

In 1939, several changes were made to the design of the existing Hurricane. These included a new powerplant, the Merlin III, a new metal propeller, new radios, and Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) equipment. Additionally, the aircraft was armed with eight, closely grouped .303" machine guns which provided an excellent field of fire. During combat, it was discovered that the Hurricane's fuel tanks were vulnerable to machine gun fire from enemy bombers, which could then ignite the aircraft mid flight. However, despite this the Hurricane would go on to be extremely successful during the Battle of Britain and would ultimately down more aircraft than the Spitfire. The Hawker Hurricane Mk. I was made by Lobo and textured by Lobo and Herc.

QuoteCobra re-visited

Featuring a lot of tanks and airplanes, Operation Cobra is one of the most played FH2 maps. However, we figured that it needed improvement in certain areas, so the map received a complete overhaul by Natty.

New terrain and lighting

Some of the changes are graphical. The map has received eye-popping new lighting settings, as well as new textures and vegetation. But don't take our word for it:

Sector Push

In 2.45, Operation Cobra will feature a semi-sector push mode. Gone are the days when a lonely back capper in a jeep could ruin everyone's day by driving back to farm or water mill: Once these two flags are captured, the fight moves on into the city!

Improved city

The city and its environs have also received a much-needed overhaul. New routes have been opened for the sneaky infantry player and tanks will find the streets of Herbecr?von a lot more enjoyable to navigate. The airfield has also been completely reworked, adding cover for spawning players and tanks and making it a lot more appealing visually. On top of that, a new flag named “Crossroads” has been added in the north, making the fight for the city more dynamic.

Balance changes and new toys

When the Germans lose all flags in 2.4, it is almost impossible for them to come back into the fight. In 2.45, the Allies will have to face a formidable German counter attack, consisting of Panthers, Stug IVs and more planes. However, the Germans bleed fast, so get a move on, soldier!
The Americans don't come into the fight empty handed either. They now use the better armored M4A3 Sherman variant, allowing them to have a more sporting chance against the panzers. And for those of you who always thought 75mm was kind of wimpy, some of them have been fitting with a 105mm howitzer, allowing you to effectively support infantry and to clear out buildings and fortifications with ease. As the Germans you can shoot back with your heavy at rifle grenades. These are now closer to their historical effectiveness and replace the Panzerfaust 30 in German tank hunter kits. They have slightly lower damage and penetration, but longer range, more ammunition and still come with a rifle as side-arm, making this one of the most versatile kits ingame.
These changes together will make Operation Cobra a totally new experience for tank connoisseurs and flyboys alike!

Re: Forgotten Hope 2

Somehow, the road textures don't fit the area around them. They look too light, maybe you're able to darken them a bit. Additionally, sometimes they stop before they reach the crossroad they're supposed to create. But that's just a minor cosmetic aspect.
All in all I have to say you did a great job. Like this map very much.

Sunny side up

FH2 has its share of gritty, gloomy maps. But sometimes you just want to get out your butterfly net and stroll around on a sunny meadow or along a warm, mediterranean beach. If you are in vacation mood, this devblog might be something for you!

Crete

Graphics
Due to its unique gameplay, Crete was a fan favourite in both FH1 and FH2. Graphically however, it was not Forgotten Hope's finest hour, so Natty sat down and gave it a long overdue facelift. Take a look:

Gameplay
There also have been several gameplay changes. Some allied aa guns have been removed, to make it easier to land troops on the island. The rearguard flag was deleted to focus and tighten gameplay and several flags have been reworked to make their gameplay more interesting, especially Maleme airfield.

Gameplay:
The map has received a thorough gameplay overhaul in addition to the great new graphics. The map was converted into a sector push map. The Germans first have to capture the church and the destroyed battery, followed by the first two flags in St. Lambert. The last sector consists of the St. Lambert west flag and the former Canadian mainbase. The Germans will not stop to bleed until all sectors are cleared, so aggressive tactics and teamwork are a must!

Luckily, the Germans also bring a new toy into the fray: The StuH42 is a Stug III that has been fitted with a 105mm howitzer. It has all the fire power of a howitzer without the sitting back in the main base part!

The Nightman cometh

The night is dark and full of terrors, which makes it the perfect time for close combat battles and stealthy sneaking around. However, so far FH2 has been regrettable light on night maps (no pun intended). This will change in FH 2.45, thanks to a new technique devised by Schism-RvtL. The 32 layers of the maps Eppeldorf and Keren will take place at night, adding more variety to FH2's map pool.

In this game mode both teams fight for a single flag in the middle of the map. Once the flag has been held by one team for a set amount of time, they win the round. This quick and action packed game mode is perfect for starting up servers or passing the time on a slow night.

Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

This week we would like to show off a couple of screenshots of a vehicle that can get you swiftly across the Tunisian desert in relative safety. It is of course the M3A1 Scout Car!

Forum post image

The M3 Scout Car was designed in 1937 by the White Motor Company, which gave it its alternative name: the White Scout Car. The improved A1 model was adopted to serve in reconnaissance and armoured units, and by 1944 over 20 thousand had been made. Although it was used in the Philippines and North Africa, its many drawbacks soon relegated it to rear line duty in the US Army. However, it remained widely used by the Soviet Union, who had been supplied with several thousand through lend-lease. The M3A1 Scout Car was modelled by Darren01, textured by Pointblank and exported by Kev4000.

Re: Forgotten Hope 2

Schadenfreude is the best Freude

There is nothing more satisfying than blowing up something that belongs to somebody else. Because of that time honored principle, we are proud to announce:

Objective mode

Devotees might remember that there actually already is an objective mode in FH2. However, it is never played, which is why the game mode was redesigned by Natty. The new objective mode is similar to sector push: The attacking team needs to blow up all targets in one sector to unlock the next. Objectives can be anything from radios over aa guns to parked tanks. They are marked on the minimap with a yellow star. If a sector is still locked, the objectives can not be blown up. There is a short delay before the new objectives spawn, giving the defending team time to set up their positions and making back sneaking very hard. As always, the attackers have to destroy all objectives to stop the bleed.

Operation Hyacinth

This was the original objective map, so naturally the new game mode was applied to it by Natty, alongside tons of other improvements.

Forum post image
Forum post image

The airfield is the first sector: Several Italian planes are just waiting to be blown up or machine gunned by SAS raiding parties.

Forum post image
Forum post image

In sectors 2 and 3 the objectives are Italian tanks and radio equipment.

Anctoville

This 2.25 map has been converted into an objective map, giving a whole new spin to its gameplay. Certain forum members will also be glad to hear that the British will now receive support from a Churchill tank.

Forum post image
Forum post image

In the first sector they will have to blast their way into the city, destroying several anti-tank barriers.

Forum post image
Forum post image

After that they have to go after anti air guns and radios before hitting the Germans where it really hurts: Their Panthers.

This new game mode will bring a totally new experience to FH2, combining the fast and aggressive gameplay of Sector Push with the joy of blowing things up. On both Anctoville and Hyacinth, Objective mode will be found in the 64 player layer, once 2.45 is released.

New tanks

Last but not least, here is a screenshot of the Sherman 105 that a member of the community requested. And because we are in a good mood, we will also throw in a Cromwell with 95mm gun.

Re: Forgotten Hope 2

Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

This week we have a render of some long requested playermodels. The 101st Airborne Division has finally dropped onto the battlefield!

Forum post image

Activated on 16th August 1942, the 101st had "no history, but it had a rendezvous with destiny." The division was shipped over the Atlantic in preparation for the invasion of France. The 101st were given the task of dropping onto the Cotentin Peninsula and securing vital objectives such as the causeways leading off Utah Beach and bridges and locks along the Douve River. The drops were scattered and it took several days before the division was organised and had completed its objectives.

The division dropped again during Operation Market Garden, where it secured several bridges between Nijmegen and Eindhoven. After 72 days combat, the division was pulled back to France for rest and relaxation, which was cut short by the German offensive through the Ardennes. Besieged at the crossroads town of Bastogne, the 101st refused to surrender and despite critical shortages of ammunition and medical supplies they held on until the siege was broken by Patton's 3rd Army. No member of the 101st has ever agreed that the division needed to be rescued.

Their last action in Europe was the capture of the Berghof. The 101st received 2 Presidential Unit Citations and suffered 2090 killed and 6388 wounded. The playermodels were modelled by Pointblank, with heads by Zero and kits by Remdul.

Re: Forgotten Hope 2

Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

As you can no doubt guess from the title, today we are pleased to announce that Forgotten Hope 2 version 2.45 will be released later this week at:

Friday 13th July 2012 @ 18:00 UTC

Although this comes a full year after the last release, we think that the many changes that have been made in this time will make version 2.45 well worth the wait. Remember to stay tuned throughout the week for more information and of course the all important final part this Friday.

We would also like to give a special 'thank you' to our beta testing team. Without their continued support and dedication, there would be no FH2 as we know it.

As well as the release date, today we'd like to tell you about the third and final map that features in version 2.45. This time we find ourselves on the flat and dusty landscape of Tunisia. In attack and counterattack, both sides will have a helping hand from the abundant flora that makes this landscape so different from the sandy wastes you might be more familiar with. The map Sidi Bou Zid was made by Lili Marlene.

However, there was still some fight left in their battered forces: On February the 14th 1943 the 21st and 10th Panzer Divisions launched a strong offensive against American forces in the Tunisian village of Sidi Bou Zid. Among their forces also were some of the new heavy Tiger tanks. While they managed to break through the Allied lines, the Americans were already preparing a counter attack to regain the lost ground...
