Eastern Front not working on Steam (update)

Hello comrades,

We have talked with Relic, and they said they were unaware of the changes made and they are going to look at it.

I know you are waiting for the new release to check the latest announced stuff, but it is better to wait for the right people to fix this issue.

i have a legit copy of coh tov including all 3 games, and i can not activate any of then on steam. is it possible that in the future this mod will be compatible with both steam and retail disc version (2.602)? thx in advance

You need to activate the key itself. Not the normal CoH games. Library -> add game -> activate product key -> type in your product key. After that you'll have access to the new steam version.

Personally for me the most important news is that project EF won't be suspended.

In these days I played couples of times ToV with Computer. I am pretty sure without EF, I wouldn't buy CoH. :(

Guys, you're very simple-hearted if you believe that Relic allows again to modding this game. EF is inconvenient for CoH2. If you don't belive this you should go to "community.companyofheroes.com". You will see there some topics refer to blocking modding activity by last patch. You will see also that in these topics is not replies from Relic or admin/mod forum. They pretend blind. This quote was wrote on 01-07-2014 by Relic Community Manager "We're aware of the issues that players have been experiencing since the last update to Company of Heroes and are working to investigate and then resolve them."but on topic where other people complains on bugs with multiplayer games like ranking errors, automatch error etc. In this topic nobody mentioned about  mods. Topics in "modding" are absolute opposite. There is no answer from Relic. Even guy from this forum "dArCReAvEr" is asking today if are any news.

Relic rarely answers in topics(about modding), but they answer our emails. Otherwise I'd not have been in contact with them for a while.

They have their own agenda though, and I think this fix will take some time to arrive.

Sorry I still have confusing. The problem is between "steam and Relic" or "EF with Relic" ?

Because I've tried with ToV and OF, and they can't log in on Relic as well.
Does Steam or CoH represent us like EF-Team to communicate with Relic ?

original game servers have been taken offline last year in may. You can nowadays only play company of heroes via "new steam version" by activating your company of heroes CD key on steam.

Now my ToV is activated and the activating codes are there already, I don't need to activate specifically. I can play ToV and OF offline, but on the home page of the Game (up-right), the "log in" statue is always with "right dot" and I can't log in successfully or recover the passwords.

I want to know how about the other steam-colleges here now? Till ending of last months, my EF functions perfect. If I can't verify my ToV, do I still have chance to verify or play EF in future? Even off-line version ?

Yes, it's a new "special" version. If you already have a steam-coh you can download it for free in your game library:



At least I think so. I've never purchased the steam version from CoH and activated my CD keys instead when the servers went offline.

It's ridiculous situation. Passes day by day and no arrives patch allows modding CoH. This is obviously not yours fault but you should inform us what you are planning. Will you wait to new patch from Relic (maybe to infinity) or adjust your mod to previous version CoH. If you will chose wait to official patch are you aware that might not happen in next few months or at all.

Yes, this current situation sucks. To give you guys a quick update:

We're fixing bugs and polishing stuff in our internal which was not final yet and we hope that we can immediately release our patch once relic released their patch for CoH. We have to see when that will be, but I'm pretty confident it won't take ages anymore. From my knowledge a new big CoH 2 update is arriving in the near future, and my guess is that CoH will receive its patch shortly after.

I was looking forward to trying this mod for the first time. The problem I had was that I couldn't seem to select either Soviet or Ostheer, but the mod does launch.

I later found this thread and now I fear I won't ever get to try the mod. I understand why people speculate that Relic did it 'on purpose' in an attempt to get more people to buy Company of Heroes 2(Which I in all honesty, believe is not worthy the title of sequel.). But at the same time, I'll say; "Suspect not malice in what can more easily be explained by ignorance".

I read that Company of Heroes 2.601 should still work with a older version of EF Mod, but I can't seem to find it anywhere so I'm starting to lose hope in this. I doubt the patch by Relic will be coming out anytime soon.

Shame Company of Heroes 2 isn't as moddable(yet? Maybe they'll milk it as much as possible first).

Despite me not having played the mod yet, I'll say great work to the devs. By the small amount of footage I've seen(I want to explore all the new units myself :P) it looks amazing. Keep us updated on this, please!

Coh 2.602 works great with this patch, no errors or glicthes but also no online playing, only skirmishes vs cpu. The same situation is for the other mods.. You don not need coh steam version to play this mod.

I have tried with 2.602 but it seems that it is not working though... So still waiting for the real update here >.<

So the game was unplayable but they got paid... I kinda knew this would happen when SEGA took over, told some friends they were gonna fuck it all up and all, but there is nothing we can do about it so.. Whats the point of trying.

Iam really looking forward, iam sure Relic will release nearly an new Patch.
SEGA plans to implement "Battle Servers" for CoH2 and CoH1. Maybe it needs its time but we can be sure EF will work again ;D

In mean time they should've revert the last patch... its broken anyway, not only for mods.
But they are only making us to wait... :(

Why making us waiting while they can completely destroy the game and start making money from the new game?

IF there is any 'shady activity' happening, its not on Relic's part. I read a preview article for CoH2 where they had nothing but praise for the EFmod, citing it as a source of inspiration in fact! Furthermore, they were directly quoted as saying that they intentionally 'patched in' some changes to make the EFmod teams task easier (this was back before THQ finally went under mind you).

So yeah, as I see it, if there are 'shenanigans' at play, they are on the part of SEGA or STEAM (or that third-party 'legacy support' mob that got mentioned), not Relic.

Acutally it does. The old version had THQ's logo in it and had to be shut down. After the THQ bankrupt sale they released a new steam version putting the price up to 25Euro for Coh + Exp. When people didn't want to get COH2, they still wanted to play COH again. The same way i played SC1 the most right before SC2 came out. Thus they buy the 25Euro COH edition.

Now that the 25Euro COH edition don't work anymore people will get COH2 to play online. If they go back to COH when they fix it in april or whatever. They still might have some thousand new sales.

But then again a thousand or just afjew hundred sales don't mean much. So my guess is that there will be an expansion to COH 2 or a new release soon. SEGA has done it with other games. One of which i enjoyed alot, Universe At War. Even hotfixes took over a month to release. After four patches the game still had issues and died shortly after it got abandoned.

If people start playing COH2 they will not only earn on sales but DLC. Maby the next patch for COH 1 will be DLC patch, or pay for online play.

Only time will tell. It's february now and i think march or april is the time they will release the already created fix. Why? Because it's SEGA. Total war Rome 2 is published by Sega.  Colonial Marines is a first-person shooter video game developed by Gearbox Software and published by SEGA!

SEGA fucks everything up!

Idiots from SEGA have forgotten about one fact. MoW: Asault Squad 2 incoming soon. I think they won't manage update CoH2 which still has many bugs. So, I wish from myself that incoming MoW will totally crush and blow out CoH2. SEGA deserves it for their approach for customers. Ofcourse not everyone will play MoW because it is more difficult and realistic than CoH but I hope that at least part present players will abandon CoH2.

By the way, i think a great game is recognized because it has great mods (which means modders wanted to put their time to enhance it).

Dude, you should write it  on official company of heroes forum. It's not EF team's fault. You may say "thank you" for SEGA. You can play Ostheer on 2.602 it has been described in this forum.

I have a backup of Coh Steam from June 2013. My idea was basically to install the game from that backup and to observe the updated file. This way, i would have created a patch to revert to old version of Coh_steam to play EF.
The problem is that, even with auto-updates disabled, steam update the game to the latest version.

I can't find any tool to extract the files contained in the backup. Any of you have an idea ?

Just install the basic company of heroes : Tales of Valor on steam. It should be unlocked for download in your steam library. This version won't work for online gaming (unless you're using tunngle for emulated LAN games) but you can play Eastern Front with that version.

I think you should mention this workaround, including a link to the dll, in the front page for the players who prefer to play with your mod while waiting. I may be pessimist but i don't think the fix will come soon.

Yo. Maby you could contact these guys and include their fixes, balance changes to Eastern Front.
So that EF will be the ultimate thing out there. And a true Expansion to the original. :)
