Anyone excited for this?

Yes, I really liked Total War: Rome /Barbarian Invasion. It was so special for it's time :D.

I am extremely excited for this. The trailer was a bit lame though but it gives the idea CA wants

I've been playing RTW for the past week since I found out about the sequel. Extremely excited. This is my number 1 most anticipated game.

Yea, me too ... this game is one of this "old good games" that will be ever fun to play.

Surprisingly not, (I wanted Victorian: Total War or Empire 2) for one, CA doesn't know how to balance MP for crap (i.e Shogun 2 loan sword spammers, hold firm yari ashigaru, matchlock spammers, monk spam, 70 reload heavy gunners, the list continues), overpriced DLC ($5 for 1 faction with the same units as every other faction REALLY? >:(, "Get Carthage if you preorder/buy our :-X iOS game, or Buy our $7.50 "Blood DLC" so you can see something that should of been free) and no moddability (still no campaign editor for NTW or ETW even though we were promised one).

Well they were the pre-order factions, stuff that got tooken off the main release. Its true that they aren't supposed to have a big variety but $5 per faction is quite a hefty price for a different starting location and a few minor bonuses. Also they did this with NTW but with $2 hero and pre order units EACH. Empire was slightly better as they sold mostly good dlc (except warpath which was trash).

Also its better just to get the all factions mod which lets you play as ALL factions, which is nice.

yeah but anyway Rome II will not disapoint you, it's supposed to be the best one yet

Yes! I played RTW, BI and Shogun II for a long time and sometimes i play these games still.
I was particularly pleased with the announcement of RTW 2, because RTW is my absolute favorite game of this.

Tbh I was hoping for a Total War: WWI (yes I know there is a mod for Napoleon and one for CoH) as it will be the centennial of WWI in a brief two years. And god knows we haven't had any WWI games in.... well... not sure how long, but for a while.

TGW mod is coming soon

I know Fish I mentioned that in my post. WWI is the last plausible Total War Era as WWII is the domain of RTS games like CoH, although that may also change.

Sadly not all of what you say is true. The few sources available from that time are, with only some exceptions, Roman. So what you get to know about Roman history is quite one-sided. Augustus for example didn't mention anything negative about himself in his "Res gestae". So at the end of the day, Rome leaves an unstained image while reality might have been different.
On the other hand, their civilized way of life is to be taken as an example. It took far longer than the Middle Ages to reach an equal level of civilization again. Their aqueducts and roads, military power and many more aspects where simply awesome and not to be compared with anything former.

They better have the Greek city states. I fucking love using Spartans to bring Rome to it's knees :P and the Persian Hordes that i just massacre!

Well according to the Rome II faction list there are only 8 factions (playable?) of which one is obviously Rome. I'm guessing the others are; Carthage, Gaul, Macedon, Hellenes, Ptolemies, Seleucids, Parthia. There are probably other factions that are unplayable such as Pontus or Germanic tribes similar to how Shogun had minor clans. I wish there were more factions. :(

Although at the same time they say that you can choose "families" within a faction to give you distinct bonuses. I'm guessing this will allow you to choose a city-state in particular you want to represent, or a Gallic clan.

You'all shouldn't worry too much. If there are unplayable factions available they can be made playable by any Hoi Polloi Modder.

I have already decided I will be using the Macedonian faction on my first play through. I remember modding my RTW1 to make it playable. I am mightily excited for this game.

If Egypt fights in the Macedonian style as it should, I will be playing them.

Because Egyptian troops have less heat penalty, look cooler and have good native troops to augment them. Macedon is quite stale. I like the Successor states because they have that extra bit of flavour, like Eastern troops for Pontos or Elephants for Epirus or Seleucia.

While you have a point, There is nothing like a good flank with the original Companion Cavalry...

2 factions are left? 1 from Asia maybe and a faction good at calvary or from the east of Europe.

I think Egypt and some sort of Greek alliance or city-state will be the last two. I'm not too happy about this clear focus on Rome and the Western barbarians. I wish there was more emphasis on the East.
