THQ will develop a new Company of Heroes game

Hello Eastern Front fans,

After the blackout event in favor of the protests against SOPA/PIPA and the closure of Megaupload and other cyberlockers, we have good news for you from THQ and the next installement of Company of Heroes. A few hours ago THQ announced that they will develop new games for several of their franchises, being Company of Heroes one of them.

THQ will discuss its new streamlined business model that reflects this strategy in more detail on its third quarter 2012 conference call scheduled for Thursday, February 2, 2012.

And so the bet starts, which front is going to be done? The Pacific one with Japaneses and new mechanics? The Eastern Front scenario with soviets? Only the time will tell, what it is certain is that we will need to hurry then to finish Ostheer, otherwise we are going to become obsolete if the Eastern Front theater is chosen ;D!

Small point... the ' third quarter 2012 conference call' will detail Q3 2011 which ended on 31st December, not Q3 2012, so it's not a hint at a release date or anything :P Although Q3 2012 would be nice.

Might be wishful thinking. If DoWIII is anything to go by, a free-to-play type game supported by micro-transactions, CoH2 will most likely be the same. It could work, you never know, but personally the prospect of having micro-transactions in game bugs the fuck out of me. It'll no longer be about skill, just who has the most money to burn.

Who cares about this shit...its going to be what Relic makes it, and IMO talking about it is no use.  Now wheres the fucking patch?  I don't know, or care, about what anyone else thinks, but for me, I'd rather be reading patch notes and doing more shoutcasts rather than reading some useless shit about SOPA or CoH2.

Last I heard, the balance was already 100% ready a while ago.  Someone's wanking.

As long a COH 2 isn't completely retarted (as in fucks with balance or is complete sh#t and is a wate of money) then sure, lets see it ^-^

Even if there is a Official EF, I will still be loyal to this mod  ;). We've already balanced it and what not. I'll just plat it less that's all :P

@Yauz: Im under the impression the patch is under going last minute changes  :-\. Hence why it wasn't released Monday :P

I really hope it will be like COHO, that game was pretty fun

if not i at least hope that it will have modding support

Because of SOPA your shoutcast would become illegal and you could be fined and face jail time for them, not to mention they'd be deleted.

You would like to have Customization of what exactly?

What do you mean by heroes ???. And by customization I think he means more rewards units and doctrines :P. Just think, all preivious strategies would change completely  :o. Experts would now have to adapt and stuff :P


Off topic but I've noticed the GR.org forums have sort of "exploded" due to this new news :P. Can you imagine how much more it shall explode when the new COH comes out? :P. Or if it ends up sucking XD. God I hope its still WW2, not some alien space race thing or modern warfare >_<. Not that I wouldn't like it but how would it even be implemented to vCOH:

a pool of doctrinal abilitys and you have to choose the abilitys you prefer (you cant choose all)

and coh:o had hero units wich were mostly totaly OP
the whole hero system was crap! eg usa sniper hero (was a 2men double sniper squad)

in the short time i played it i was unter the top 3% of best blitzkrieg commanders
yes you see right^^ there was no real leaderboard only % which told you how good you are ( honestly i liked this and the lobby was not full of smurf stat whores :D)

Honestly, I hope it won't be like CoHO. The hero units and especially pre-commander selection are something that took something away that was unique to CoH.

I hope its like SC2 for Starcraft.

Starcraft2 did add only slightly more units to the factions, bug fixes,... . It mostly improved the graphics. Thats what i want for coh2 too.
Ofc the Worldbuilder would be very happy about some new objects aswell ;)

Undoubtedly this is something I won't want to hear, it is ugly indeed but no where near of a "fact". If the patch is delayed everyone should suspect what are the reasons behind it, especially if everyone knows that we were working to release the patch at Eastern Front anniversary.

Then again, no matter how much you want the patch to be released right now, that we stop working on whatever we are doing right now to finish it ASAP, it ain't going to happen. Real life is always priority, so no matter if the patch is 200% ready, it will need to wait a little longer until someone has some free time to pack it up. That's the general rule of EF and any other mod.

Yeah, immature ad hominem are uncalled for. Seriously, we can understand your frustration, but I'm sure keeping it civil isn't beyond your comprehension. These announcements have zero impact on the development process, you may think they are useless, but that's entirely subjective.
Whoever told you a while ago that the patch was 100% obviously doesn't fully understand the development process. The Dev team rarely, if ever, gives out percentages as mod development time is erratic. We could get 90% done in a week, then spend another 5 months on the remaining 10%, depending on who is available, what needs done, and how much time they have to dedicate. As Bish said... Patch could be 200% finished, but it means squat if there's nobody about to pack it up and distribute it.

Aye I'm sure the Dev's have lives and also I think though I'm not sure of this but aren't a few of them also working/helping with other mods.

The patch is released when it is released, same with the Ostheer. And the way I look at it the most time spent on the patch the better it is going to be with minimum to no bugs, wouldn't you rather have a buggy game that crashes every second you try to play or would you rather have a game with the odd bug here and there but otherwise perfectly fine.

My point being go easy on the Dev's they are doing a great job.

I think some of them act as translators for other mods but not direct animating and programing :P

:) . I'm not really interested in CoH right now, but i know that when the trailer comes out, i will be obsessed with it .

I apologize and I check in on the site all the time and wasn't at all offended by the SOPA post. It's relevant to everyone on the internet. But the last thing a small team of modders need is unappreciative people. Posting under the guise of "It's the truth and someone had to say it" did nothing to make it any less insulting in my mind. It would of been less insulting to just admit you're frustrated in waiting.

We would appreciate if everyone returns to the real topic ;D... otherwise post are going to be deleted...

I just hope the next CoH will have better modding support :).

No, it's not. It's taken years to get where we are now. Compare this to other games that are easily modded and have actual mod tools released by devs and the progress is extremely slow.

That's true that COH doesn't have as many official mod tools.  Thank god for Corsix.  However, the vast amount modding resources available to the community these days seems pretty standard in comparison to games with actual modding tools.  Got to give massive thanks to Eliwood, DMz, and all the other modders at the COH Armory ofc.

@Slapstick, yea you've got a valid point.  I like to express myself in an aggressive way; lots of times more aggressive than how my mind is actually thinking, and I can see how it can piss some people off.  You got your opinion across straightforward without beating around the bush like a pussy, and I respect that.

If I've pissed anyone off, my apologies.  I also appreciate the EF content the devs have provided us, and I've never said otherwise.  Its just I am indeed a little frustrated to see this stuff instead of patch info, that's all.  In my mind I was just thinking why there was time to release info about this stuff, but not enough time for the patch notes.  Again, I don't mean to offend anyone here.

What is Corsix BTW ???. I keep seeing that word but I have no idea what it is :P

Corsix mod studio is basically the main tool for modding ompany of heroes. it allows you to veiw and modify the stats of everything, and a lot of other things


and yeah company of heroes is certainly not the most mod friendly game, the only tools i think relic actually released themselves were world builder, the NIS thing, and object editor. everything else had to be done by the community

this means things like importing models into COH and animating them is quite difficult, with everything having to be set up a certain way in order to work, and having rely on the modding community to learn how to animate such things (people who know how to animate COH models are hard to find, and animating is quite complicated)

and also in my department of AI, Relic either removed or disabled the AI debugging stuff, making AI coding quite difficult, and most functions used are undocumented as well as most of the ai, though some of the relic coders left helpful hints here and there in the code
