Season Special: The Rise of the Snowmen

Hello Eastern Front fans,

It is christmas time, that special time of the year, give and receive presents, share a dinner with your beloved ones; a tradition that is carried in Company of Heroes as well. Armies have a truce in these days, however an unknown evil is rising, threating the celebration of the christmas eve.



While you and your army wait for the christmas eve an invasion begins that very evening, your army is caught in surprise, however you soon realize you are not figthing against your usual enemies, but an army of creatures made of snow and branches... using stolen equipment against you.



Their fast paced advance and their combat abilities is not similar to anything you have faced. Nonetheless, intelligence reports announce that they have a weakness, they will melt once the sun rises. So now they fight to crush your party, your christmas tree and what it represents... oh and your presents as well. It is now your duty to hold down the advance of these creatures until the christmas come, until the christmas countdown fades off.



As you problably now had guess, we are talking about a special mode for Eastern Front, where you need to hold a point in a fixed amount of time in order to achieve the victory. We are not talking about a normal objective, neither of normal enemies nor the usual reward for actually winning.

Besides celebrating Christmas, we are also celebrating the achievment of getting the fourth position in the Player's Choice of MOTY 2011 ;D!! Thanks to your support we got a better position than the previous year :D!! You can read the related article and check the other mods that are part of the top 10 here.



You will need to defend your christmas tree against waves of snowmen, which are not going to give up and live to fill one sole objective: to crush that christmas tree, that's why you will prevent this to happen, and once the countdown reaches zero, if you actually achieve it... everthing will end for one of the parts involved.



Remember, your enemy has nothing to lose, you do. Good luck commander.

LOL...I've always hated Relic Grenadier skins because I've always stated their uniforms looked like snowman uniforms.  The irony...

Looks really fun, but... I'm not able to find it in game!  :(
Please, could someone be so kind to explain me where is this "new mode"? i see the usual ones, nothing about Christmas or whatever...

I believe it's in the normal map section under the name of "Operation: Save Christmas".

In main Menu press "Skirmish" and then at 4vs4 find the map called "Operation: Save Christmas"

If one week and a half is that long for you ::). My definition of long should cover at least more than one month. Do not confuse this with Maxi's gift, both are different things and this one started almost one week ago.

Other than that we are not going to know what's happening hence we are not going to be able to suggest anything rather than this one: you can try to uninstall EF, delete the files left for the installer if that occurred and reinstall EF.

I finished it, but i found a bug... it doesn't end once the timer counts down and all the snowmen are dead.

Will it be included in next patch?

Hmmm.... MoW also made the same type of game mode, exactly the same with snowmen attacking and defending Christams tree...

This game mode had a development time of 5 days. 5 days from "We should do something for Christmas" until release is pretty impressive in my book.

Anyway, no this is probably not what you been waiting for for "so long".

Currently scar crashes happen if:
-For example one player is in slot 1 and one player is in slot 3 = crash
-You host the map via Multiplayer without a CPU player (in slot 5) = crash

Not a crash but good for information I guess:
-The map doesn't end even if the counter reaches 0.

And I got beaten every time I tried to stand up to the snowmen. I'll just wait for thaw  ;) .

When can we expect the next update (which will correct errors, inaccuracies, and so on)?

As far as I know everything is fixed so far, map is also updated (by me) so it's much more beautiful and less empty. I'll ask the other devs about a potential update is the next few days.

Yeah but the thing is (and IMO should be fixed) is that every additional player gets 450mp, meaning if you have 4 players, you will have 1400 mp collectively. If you play alone you will only have 450 mp and must micro more. The mp should at least be changed to make the game harder :P

Soviet Uniforms are fine, this isn't a historical simulator, its a game, thus some fictional or non-perfect elements are allowed in. If you know how to, have the time to, and really have nothing better to do then you can make some lovely skins for the Soviet Army but otherwise DON'T BOTHER MENTIONING IT

i cant beat the snowman mode. of course i do it solo, and i cant build anything except brit mines. is the same for everyone? and do you all get only a commando, naval, storm, and whatever the PE squad is?

Yes all I get is the 4 squads. They aren;t mines they're demo charges  :P

Thats the challenge of it. Do it with a teammate. Its much easier. Less micro :P
