Re: Sicilia

Is there a way to view both pictures at the same time? I would like to Alt-Tab between the 2.
#74461

Re: Sicilia

Thanks, fellows!  ;D

@Pariah: Use the middle mouse button to open picture in a new tab, copy that link, paste it in a new tab, then go back and click the other picture. That works for me, at least.

Re: Sicilia

Thanks, Goober. I don't really have a preference in either case. I would like to say, though, that the gate in the first 2 pictures should open 1 way - I don't think hinges work like that. ;)

Goober, you aren't a mapper. You are fucking artist  :o  :D

@cephalos: Thanks!!!

Sorry, this should be the last one of these. unless I think of something else. Which looks better: with or without grapes?

Re: Sicilia

The grapes in the boxes look good, but on the cart maybe not.

I'll just try to do something a bit different with the grapes so they look better.

Re: Sicilia

You could try this:

Place "bush_s_01" > Edit State > Add > DCA Variable: tint > value of 1 for red grapes/6 for green grapes.

I tend to use tint-2 for most of my grape bushes so that the leaves don't look red but at the same time it looks as if they are red grapes

Re: Sicilia

I helped him a while ago reducing the playable area's size, it was just to big. I had to stamp the whole map and place it in a new file, I sent it to him and he also downloaded it. I don't know about his progress though, really looking forward to a new update. You will love this map, the level of detail of both objects and textures is just awesome.

Re: Sicilia

In short, my entire summer has been filled with relatives coming and going, and traveling to other realtives. It's fun, but no good for mapping  ::). I will most definatly get to work on Sicilia when I get the chance, but that may be a while...  :(

@MaxiKing6: Thanks!  :D

Re: Sicilia

Hey, just to let you all know, I am still working on this map. Not much though, due to school. Anyways, I don't have any pictures but I'm almost completely done with the town. Almost all the buildings are set up, and I just need to add a few more details. I am also working on the left section of the map, by the airfield. It will be a sort of a hilly, agricultural area.

Re: Sicilia

Nice to hear that, would be a shame if you'd abandon this awesome project. It inspired me for a map that I won't present to the public (yet), your use of Splats is unique. :)

Unique. Hmm. I'm trying to determine if you mean that in a good or bad way...  ;)

Okay, so after seeing a few pictures of actual Italian environment, I noticed that the bushed were mostly green. Should I just leave my map how it is, or replace alot of the bushes with green ones, as it does give it a different look. It wouldn't take me too long to do. Here are some pictures to compare:

- I also have a picture of the same area, with the green bushes, but also more "olive" trees and cypresses.

Re: Sicilia

Man, that looks fantastic! Each of those variants could make it I think, you could combinate them to create a wilderness-like environment in the hills :)

It really all depends where you're mapping this out. Near water most of the terrain is green and grassy where as if you head further inland, and towards some of the mountains you get that original look you had in mind.

I'm still going to leave the ground how it was, I'm just going to add some more foliage and green bushes.

Re: Sicilia

@Cranialwizard: What if I try doing what is in pic 2, but with a few small cypresses here and there? - And by the way, when I said I was going to leave the ground how it was, I didn't mean that I wasn't listening to your advice, just that the ground would stay pretty much the same, but I would change the foilage. I don't know if you even took it like that, but I realized that the wording could have meant that.  So, sorry.  :-\

Okay, and I'm going to try using sideways vines for grape vines, as they look alot better. Here's a pic:

Hey, sorry for no updates lately. I have barely had any free time, and in the time I had I realized that my map was still to big. I am
trying to recreate it in a smaller map area.

Re: Sicilia

Yeah map size is really important. We have an internal rule list now for maps to be accepted for inclusion to EF and size is a huge point.
If you get into an argument with me, you're wrong.

Re: Sicilia

Mapsize is a bitch  :'( Its really hard sometime to see the scale of things, something that looks small in WB can look huge ingame.

Re: Sicilia

Yeah, after a few hours last night I think I finally got the map size to a decent 6 player size. No I just need to stamp areas from my bigger one all night...  :(

@MaxiKing6: Ha ha! Thanks. When I finally get my map mostly or all filled, I'll post some pics. I defiantly messed up this map's balance with all the size changing, so I will need lots of advice, probably.  ::)

Re: Sicilia

Yeah, sorry about this ridiculously long wait. I tried putting the map into a smaller area, but it just doesn't work. The way I originally built the map made the balance messed up the first time it was re-sized, and I just don't think  it will be worth it to balance it how it is.  :( I am working on finishing the second sized version of it now. It might be too big though, so... yeah. Hopefully it will run fine though. Don't expect it finished any time soon though. I'm really sorry for how I messed this up. Hopefully if I make another map I will size it better.

Re: Sicilia

Well, here is a small update after a very long time. I should be able to work on the map some more on this upcoming summer, so hopefully you will see more of these!

If anything here looks out of place or anything, just mention it and I will be sure to change it.

P.S. Those grass clumps next to the jeep tracks aren't staying, don't worry.  ;)

@MaxiKing6 I will do something like that eventually, that is currently just a stamp. I will probably clear out alot of that field for a either a VP or a high recourse point.

Re: Sicilia

Nice. So you stamped the map because, if I remember correctly, the map's layout was fucked up after you stamped it the first time - and was still too big?

Re: Sicilia

Yeah, I tried to re-stamp it after you did, to put it into an even smaller area, but it was just messed up in a bunch of weird ways. Currently it is probably too big, but I'm hoping that it really isn't as big as it looks when it's actually being played. And I am actually probably going to end up putting the other 2 axis bases in that area I was just talking about. I was originally going to put them on the airfield, but that would just be awkward. What I might end up doing is to try having alot of impass areas, like some groves, a lake, etc. just to cut down on size.
