How to create an Eastern Front shorcut

Sometimes you can't use EF launcher, but you can play Eastern_Front by creating a shorcut following these steps:

• Right Click over the desktop->New->Shorcut


• Enter your CoH directory, in example: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\Company of Heroes Relaunch\RelicCoH.exe" -dev -mod Eastern_Front -nomovies (with quotes)


• Enjoy Eastern Front!

Remember to double check if you are writing the correct path creating the shorcut.

You can add the following parameters to your shorcut:

[b]-dev[/b]                     this enables developer options (also allows you 
                         to play custom maps not formated as a ".sga")
[b]-nomovies[/b]                this skips opening intro movies.
[b]-noclip[/b]                  no videos when starting the game, saves your "Esc"-key
[b]-unlock_all_missions[/b]     exactly what it says
[b]-nosound[/b]                 disables the sound system.
[b]-refresh xx[/b]              sets the game refresh rate (ie. -refresh 60).
[b]-minvidmem 32[/b]            this works around the video-memory check
[b]-novsync[/b]                 disables Vsync (for higher fps then 60).
[b]-notriplebuffer[/b]          disables triple buffering
[b]-perftest[/b]                use with -novsync to dump a log file of the performance 
                         test to \documents\my games\coh\logfiles
[b]-nolitter[/b]                used with DX10 and removes the "litter" objects that busy up the world.
[b]-speech[/b]                  disables unit in game speech
[b]-fastload[/b]                reduces loading time

While there are no limits of what commands you can use at a given time, all this stuff must be used under your own risk.


Remember to always update your game manually because you aren't going to use the autoupdate feature of the launcher.

I never used corxis in that way so, i assume it is :-\.

that's because there is a low chance that your path would be that... that's why i put Remember to double check if you are writing the correct path creating the shorcut, it would be difficult to represent all the possible paths... hence i made just an example ;).

uhm no i installed the game normal just plain COH from a store bought disc :D

Check if you have CoH at:
C:\Program Files\THQ\Company of Heroes\

if you have 64 bits OS try:
C:\Program Files(x86)\THQ\Company of Heroes\

I tried to make the shortcut as specified and I verified my directory.  But when I click my shortcut it only brings up the file.  Do I need to do something different or is there something I don't have enabled?

Fixed... xD. Please check the first post.

I hate to bear bad news, but I corrected the shortcuts and it gives my cursor the loading icon then nothing happens.  Almost feels like I'm not going to get to play this mod.

Update: I got it to work now.  I just made a new shortcut and it look a minute but it loaded finally and I went into a game and it seems to be running fine.

Did you put the quotes on the shorcut's path?

"C:\Games\THQ\Company of Heroes\RelicCoH.exe" -dev -mod Eastern_Front

They should be there.

Are you sure you installed EF in the correct path?

When the installer asked you the path you should put a something like this:

C:\Games\THQ\Company of Heroes

If you installed EF in a different location, it won't work.

Yeah, I made sure everything works now and it does.  I had to just make a brand new shortcut.  Thanks for the help.  Bad ass mod too.  Now to get my friends to download it so I can play it instead of the regular game.

People, I have a problem. I installed EF, and entered the CoH directory in the EF Launcher, and downloaded and istalled all the updates, but when I press "Play" it only launches normal CoH ver. 1.71.0. I created a shortcut but it doesn't help.
P.S. I haven't got Opposing Fronts, only the basic game.

You need to update your game to 2.601, even if you don't own the other titles.

Make sure you download the correct patch for your language.

No. Not unless you buy the games (OF, ToV or gold edition etc.).
Actually, all game files will be there, but locked for your use.

Iirc, if you run the launcher and you don't have EF module file you will run vCoH ;D.

What if I'm running some "random mod", which I do at times. How can I make use of this most wonderful and elaborated launcher in that case?

Well, the launcher is hardcoded to launch Eastern Front everytime so, that would be not possible... at least not normally.

You will need to make another program to do that. You can set the Core number manually (ctrl+shift+del->processes->right click over the process->set affinity). But for the ram the only way i see you can do it, it's by writing a small app to do that.

I have tried the shortcut both ways, it still says same as launcher, " cant find location". Help, I used to play EF when it first came out, now I cant. I have the retail CoH, and also ToV and Oppsing Fronts downloaded from steam. I tried downloading EF both ways, also didnt work. Both ways meaning "Games\THQ" etc., and Steam\steamapps\etc.

Could you post an screenshot of the folder where you installed EF? Make sure all the files and folders fit.

If you have both CoH versions, the launcher is not going to work correctly because you are supposed to have only one of them.

You will need to create a shorcut in order to make it work, or check your registry entry of CoH to see where the installlocation value points. But I would like to see your CoH directory before that :).

I think this is what you are talking about, I hope.

Try creating a shorcut with this path as target:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\company of heroes\RelicCoH.exe" -dev -mod Eastern_Front -nomovies

including quotes. Looks like you installed EF in the correct path so, Eastern_Front.module should be in that directory.

When I try to make the shortcut it says "file cannot be found"

Yes, Eastern_front.module  is listed.

Are you sure you have RelicCoH in your Company of Heroes directory?

You should have it, because you are not supposed to rename it or delete it otherwise you won't be able to play CoH or any other mod.

I see RelicCoH, its an application file. Also, I play the blitzkreig mod all the time, it works fine.

Are you sure you keep the quotation marks as I suggested in a previous post?

Because I just create a shorcut with the string I put you and run fine; but I removed the quotes and gave me a not found error.

That shorcut is wrong; if your CoH dir is the quoted one then the shorcut should be:

Quote"C:\thq\Company of Heroes Gold\RelicCOH.exe" -dev -mod Eastern_Front -nomovies

Supposing that Eastern Front module file is on "C:\thq\Company of Heroes Gold\RelicCOH.exe"

Could you upload your warnings.log file?

It says that it is preparing and it doens't run.

Could you double check the Eastern_Front.module files and Eastern_Front folder is on your Company of Heroes Relaunch folder inside the SteamApps directory?
