Das Boot great movie indeed! when watched the 5 h version  ;D


Enemy at the gates wasn´t a great movie in my opinion. you get the impression the whole stalingrad battel was about the german and soviet sniper.

And again wrong german tanks! cheap tanks that were converted to look like a panzer III. I want a movie, not hollywood made, that uses real german armor! Finnland made such a movie "Tali-Ihantala". Two real stug III where used there.

The longest day , although it shows the movie from both sides , the german side is quite detailed...

Not many movies were made from the german and soviet perspective , however i can make you count a large no of english and american ww2 movies

A bridge too far is a great movie about Operation Market Garden

One of my favorites. At least Hollywood was able portray it somewhat evenly.  ;) Cross of Iron also had a cynical side to it, which I liked.

Battle of the Bulge (1965) - A well-known Hollywood classic. Though it used some really cheap props (i.e. Pershings as King Tiger substitutes), it immortalized the "Panzerlied (Tanker's Song)" in one memorable scene.

The Bridge at Remagen (1969) - The retreat of the German army across the Rhine (during Operation Lumberjack), Western Front.

Triumph of the Will (1935) - Real WW2-era Nazi Party documentary/propaganda film by Leni Riefenstahl---it's pretty interesting if you look at it from a historical and filmic perspective. My film professor made us watch this one back in college.

Woman In Berlin (2008) - Portrays the ultimate fate of German women (along with many others) in the Soviet-occupied territories.

Valkyrie (2008) - Stars Tom Cruise as Oberst Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg in the "20. July" plot to assassinate Hitler at the Wolfsschanze.

Mein Krieg (2008) - Amateur film/documentary by German soldiers.

I ve seen the following

Battle of the Bulge (1965) : - good display of war tactics

Valkyrie (2008) : Tom cruise is a poor actor he managed to do this one good though

Triumph of the Will (1935) :- Dont want to see this one , the cinematography would be horrible



Would Like to add three more movies to the above

Masscre in rome(1973) : Splendid one , full of irony


Guns Of Navarone(1961) :- A must watch for all those who haven't till now , nominated for 3 or 4 oscars(academy awards)


Life is Beautiful ( 1997) : Story of a jew father who saves his son from the concentration camps

Has anyone here ever watched the HBO Original film "When Trumpets Fade"? I think it was the only one which featured the Schlacht im Hürtgenwald (Battle of Hürtgen Forest)...

Gentlemen, you have overlooked a classic. The Battle of Britain! one of the few movies that shows the Germans as the humane people they really are. The great things that people can learn from movies, while far from reality, is that the soldiers from Germany were no different than anyone else. Fighting for their country and their leadership and its motives.

Reading the comments on YT page seems it called "1941 year", but I'm not sure.

PS: 2:56 HT's driver didn't saw nothing strange in the grass?  ;D ::)

Finally they use tank mockups that almost look similar to real german WWII tanks.

Anyone russian in this forum can tell the english title of the movie?

PS: hot chick in the second video  ;D

Saw several clips of this movie. What i really like are the authentic weapons used. Guns, tanks, plains look really original. But the bad acting and music (sounds like a B-movie) ruins much.

I guess this was Chuck Norris' goat. it had escaped by killing 100.000 elite guardians. This goat is the most dangerous being on entire Eastern Front during year 1941  >:(

Most likely, that goat has got a bad concussion and severe wounds by shrapnel, but managed to run away in a stance of traumatic shock, which, in RL, isn't actually all that uncommon, or impossible.
BTW, in fact, you may happen to get lucky (extremely) not to get hurt by a closely situated grenade explosion (apart from inevitable concussion). But the odds are, of course, strongly against you.

One of the best Italian movie of the last years  :D (yes I know it's quite old (2002) but Italian movie producion sucks).

The film recreates perfectly the conditions of the Italian soldiers who fought in North Africa, where Mussolini sent shoe polish instead of ammo, water, fuel and reinforcement stuff. :-\

"Ballad of a Soldier" is a really good Soviet movie. It was made during the height of the Cold War but it is actually very realistic in the portrayal of the Soviet Union during WWII. Khrushchev loved the director so much that he let him do almost whatever he wanted in film.

Independent fanfilms looks better than that. Anyways recently I watched the film "Satlingrad" and that gives a really realistic perspective of the Eastern front.

Stalingrad is made by Germans. And it wasn't such cash production like in Hollywood. That's why it's better. It fits to thinking people, while EatG is produced to make money and brainwash poor folks.

Just watched El Alamein and Brestskaya krepos amazing movies thanks for shareing them! Its nice to see something else than the usual Hollywood stuff.

Yea i know its not from a German perspektive but since this thread is filled with great movies im gonna recommend a Danish movie, its about the danish freedom fighters during ww2

Some of the best films about war, made in USSR (so it is widely accepted):
"Они сражались за родину" (They fought for the homeland)
based on Michail Sholokhov's novel
"А зори сдесь тихие" (The dawns are quiet here)
director Stanislav Rostotski
No politics, in my opinion, just stories of war. Rather heavy.
These films are, unlike modern ones, not much into picture, but would give a huge handicap, IMO, in means of the story and the feeling.

The last battle scene of Brest-Litovsk movie (14th) is just epic - but the others are kinda strange: it seems that soviets are close-combat-beast-that-owns-everything-and-eat-landser-for-lunch. Well, just my opinion.

I should see the movie "Das Boot" though, seems to be a great film.

Told from Both the Chinese and Japanese perspectives City of Life & Death is a pretty good, albeit grim film about the Nanking Massacre. 
Not one to watch with the kids, be warned!

Lol i don't know, i used to have a lot of fun watching old black and white war movies as a kid  :P.

some of movies were used as propaganda, and I guess children were watching it too. I was 10 when I used to watch WWII propaganda serial. It was fun though....
