Therion - Hellheim

t's not just the intro, (0,31) the majority of the vocal lines are the EXACT same melody as the vocal lines from SS Marchiert im feindesland. Both the verses AND the chorus. This is NOT a coincidence, it's either a tribute or plagiarism. Nice song anyway.

Re: Music of the Ostheer

Well. The ace high march ( Luftwaffen March ) is one of my favorites too ;) It is a march composed and created for the german Luftwaffe but it implements some of the typical elements of the german military music like the "Turkish crescent" ( in Germany we call this instrument 'Schellenbaum' without a national linking ^^ ) or the trumpets and fanfares for "marching formations".

Other songs i like to see for the Ostheer;
The Panzerlied ->
Panzerlied (Color film)
Preußens Gloria
Preussens Gloria Marsch
Königsgrätzer Marsch
Preußischer Armeemarsch "Der Königsgrätzer"

Okay. This are very difficult songs for a coh background but i think they are the best know songs and most typical songs of the "german army" ( all of them are played by the Bundeswehr till today ).
May the force be with you.

these thrown in the mix could be cool.
Baldurs Gate music is suprisingly epic.

Lacrimosa

after ignoring the source this one isn't bad

the wolfenstein one is also very awesome +1 to that.

Music with the right "feel" is more important to me than historical.

THIS

(not that it would be easy to find music themes that would "feel" right for everyone)

Anyway, I´ve been looking around in my music library and found a theme that might be good for Ostheer´s menu music. They "feel" Ok and they are long. I don´t think it will be possible to find one for in-game because, if I´m not mistaken, the original soundtracks change tempo when combat is shown on the screen, so yeah, that will have to be vanilla.

From the "Black" videogame for PS2, the main theme by Chris Tilton:

Re: Music of the Ostheer

these were some of the songs which were sung by real Ostheer soldaten and their Axis allies....not all people like martial hymns, but they're definitely worth listening to.  ;)

1.) "Russlandlied" (The name says it all...could be used for the main menu or the loading screens as well)
Russlandlied

2.) "Panzerlied" (-The tankers' song... very inspiring, upbeat AND heroic-sounding. :D)
Das Panzerlied ( Original )
---there are instrumental versions of this as well... :)

3.) "Lilli Marleen" (A popular panzergrenadier song. This version was sung by the Spanish Legión Azul fighting alongside the Wehrmacht  in Volkhov and Leningrad. Ideal if the Ostheer faction would have "foreign volunteer"-type units. "Erika" would be an alternative.)
DIVISION AZUL - LILI MARLEN EN ESPAÑOL

4.) "Viktoria Sieg Heil" (A particularly inspiring march of the Waffen-SS; the "Deutschland Über Alles" or the "Liebel Horst Wessel Lied" is usually sung at the end.)
♫ The March of the Waffen SS - Viktoria Sieg Heil ♫

5.) "Jääkärimarssi" (Finnish Winter War song....dramatic and beautiful.)
Jääkärimarssi - Winter War

6.) "Fallschirmjägerlied - Rott Scheint Die Sonne" (Great song..one of my favorites...this was also sung by Brandenburg units at the OstFront)
Fallschirmjager lied (German paratrooper song)

7.) "Wolfnacht Pa Vikingtog" (Song of 5th SS Panzer Division "Wiking" and 6th SS Mountain Division "Nord"; Norwegian adaptation of "SS Marschiert")
Norwegisch Waffen SS - Pa Vikingtog - Elite Song

8.) "Stuka Lied" (Perfect music for blasting the commies. Check out the Stuka sirens. 8))
Third Reich Stuka-Lied スツーカの歌

9.) "Zehntausend Mann"
Zehntausend Mann

10.) "Schatz Ach Schatz"
German Military War Songs-Schatz, ach Schatz

11.) "Soldat Kamerad"
German Military War Songs-Soldat Kamerad(Good quality)

12.) "Ein Heller Und Ein Batzen"
German Military War Songs-Ein Heller und ein Batzen

.....these are just suggestions anyway. I'm just the type who'd prefer realism over a C&C etc. etc. derived soundtrack. Besides, there are almost no copyright issues here, since the guys who sang these are probably dead by now  ;D

its surprisingly pretty good.
Medal of Honor: Allied Assault - Tigertank 01a (music)

this would almost be good enough to play while your playing the game.
Medal of Honor: Allied Assault - Suspense 4 (music)

this would be good background music too:

Forgive me for bad English, but the songs that are putting has no way to imagine a screen of COH EF. Soon they will put the opening of MASH ....  ::) oder....Hogan's Heroes....commom boys!!!

Preussens Gloria Marsch ok

Panzerlied, ok, not being a fake version  the movie the Battle of the Bulge .... what hell was that marking the feet in song? bad movie....

Black Ost....very good!!

Stalingrad Soundtrack Creates a certain atmosphere, but much obvious.

I would love to see something fierce, proud and tragic
out of the mainstream, as they did with the Russians.

Hmm...tragic? since most of the soldatenlieders are pretty much upbeat and all, then I guess "Ich Hatte Einen Kameraden" would certainly fit the bill...or, we could get the Vienna Boy's Choir to sing the "Dies Irae" lol ;D;D;D

Re: Music of the Ostheer

I almost posted "Dogs of War" from one of the Medal Of Honor games (look it up on youtube, it´s pretty cool), but I thought it would not be a good idea to give the EF mod a music theme from another well-known videogame franchise.

Still, "Over The Fence" is really awesome and I´d definitely go for that one.

Re: Music of the Ostheer

TBH, I like marches, but I rather keep lyrics out. And most WW2 marches have singing in them.
"You can close your eyes and plug your ears and be afraid and ignorant of the darker parts of history, but always know that you're the one responsible for allowing those events to happen again and with even greater consequences and not know how to end the nightmare you did upon yourself."

Yes, Hogan's Heroes intro would be pretty cool as Ostheer soundtrack since i love this song.

Re: Music of the Ostheer

I know this has already been sugested, but this would be perfect.

Finnish Military Marches - Jääkärimarssi

It's a Finnish march, Finland was an Axis ally most of the war. It's not too cheery and does sort of portray an image of a cold winter day.

That and it reminds me of Christmas.
"You can close your eyes and plug your ears and be afraid and ignorant of the darker parts of history, but always know that you're the one responsible for allowing those events to happen again and with even greater consequences and not know how to end the nightmare you did upon yourself."

Re: Music of the Ostheer

I think the absolute perfect music for any suspense portion of the game (essentially anything but the action music) is the Valkyrie soundtrack down by John Ottman.

Here are my personal favorites and how they could be used in game.

A Place to Change- could be used at the start of the game, during the building up phase.
Valkyrie Soundtrack - 7. A Place To Change

Olbricht Gives The Order- Same as above.
Valkyrie Soundtrack track 16-Olbricht Gives The Order

Important Call- Idle music.
Valkyrie Soundtrack track 14-Important Call

"Left 20, up 40, one round HE.....HANG IT!....FIRE!"

I recently watched Beowulf and realized that the best part of the movie is the music, it kind of makes you think od the "Arian race" or the "Nordic race":
Beowulf Track 09 - I Am Beowulf - Alan Silvestri

Beowulf Track 14 - Beowulf Slays The Beast - Alan Silvestri

One of my favorites:

I don't know, sounds almost too dark. My vote is still for Ride of the Valkyeies and the Jaakir Maarsi.

I like the darkness factor for the Ostheer, because being "sent to the Eastern Front" became the same as a death sentance for German soldiers.

Well, there should be balance. Marches like Erika are too bright and cheerful, while the pieces you provided are very dark. Meanwhile, things like Ride of the Valkyrie are perfect, especially for the Blitzkrieg stages of the Eastern Front. Every time I hear Ride of the Valkyries I can't help but imagine skies filled with Luftwaffe aircraft ready to bomb major cities in the Soviet Union.

You've got a point there, Kamerad... however, it should also be noted that the men of the OH intentionally sang lighter soldatenlieders like "Erika" and "Viktoria Sieg Heil" in order to relieve themselves from the pressures of the Eastern Front, which was a gloomy, depressing hellhole (particularly in winter). The lighter songs boosted their morale reminded them of a Germany that can never be beaten.  :)

Re: Music of the Ostheer

This is a tough one. There are so many great marches and songs that it is gonna be hard to choose. Remember though, not every song was "Nazified" they may have carried over into the Third Reich, but most were composed during World War One or the 19th Century.

Or the Defillier March of Carl Faust?

I know marches aren't liked by a few because "they don't fit the game's theme" but still, I can't help but invision endless waves of Wehrmacht troops marching when I hear this.

Re: Music of the Ostheer

To mirror the characterisitcs of the eastern warfare and the german army, I think the theme for the Ostheer should be an agressive, grim and imperial sound with an epic touch, creating a sense of imminent danger and mortal fate. The Music of conquerors bound to their death for Fuehrer and Vaterland. Bass, deep percussions, no chanting.

From what I've heard so far, those songs fit the requirements best:

- Wolfenstein Music: SS Elite Guard Assault (just imagine starting a game with this... I'd get a nerdgasm.. xD)
- Master and Commander: Into the fog
- Stalingrad Soundtrack Score

EDIT: Also this one from Wofensetin is simply perfect:

I mean, you want really dark "marching to death" style music when that won't be necessary since it's only a game.
The way I see it, the music should not be grim and imply you're making a mistake playing the Ostheer, but instead that of an ideal war using marching music.
"You can close your eyes and plug your ears and be afraid and ignorant of the darker parts of history, but always know that you're the one responsible for allowing those events to happen again and with even greater consequences and not know how to end the nightmare you did upon yourself."

Re: Music of the Ostheer

The music should generate a specific mood which fits to the game. For me, the music i proposed does that. It creates a grim, powerful and dynamic atmosphere - perfect to get my Pio's ass up. But well, taste is different.

For me, marching music puts me into a state of humorous nostalgia... not something I wanna start a game of CoH....

Re: Music of the Ostheer

I'd have to agree with Comerade2012 in using the Das Boot mix. prehaps the dev's could chop it up to suit their needs, and use the fast moving sequences for something like, oh, say an infantry chare or something of that nature.
