Soviet Major Suggestion

A small change, though something I would really like to see is the Soviet Major being armed with a PPSH41 SMG like the Soviet Officers and Brit LT's do.  We could then lower the damage output or the health of the bodyguards if need be.  The main reason why is because once the squad starts loosing 3 people (all bodyguards) the squad is near useless vs infantry because the is Majors pistol being very inaccurate and low damage and immediately has to retreat.  Until getting Veterancy or the PPS SMG upgrade, early game he is useless and the only thing he is good for is soaking up damage like the cannon fodder conscripts are like.

You must get lucky a lot, cause often the major is the first one to die in the squad when the fighting starts for me. Maybe they could do some kind of weapon scaling off vet?

Re: Soviet Major Suggestion

Honestly I wouldn't mind him being somewhere near as tough as say, the other officers from other factions. Maybe not quite as the captain, but up there.

And an execute ability for historical accuracy....

Re: Soviet Major Suggestion

Yes good idea, give the Major an execute ability at vet 2, that would be nice (like in CoHO's Terror Officer).  The point is, we don't want to make a squad that relies on one type entity to do the damage, we need a consistent DPS so that if your squad is down to 2 men (one being the Major and the other a bodyguard) you will still do some damage due to the PPSH.

Re: Soviet Major Suggestion

He can break supression without kill anyone of his men because of his awesome natural inspiration and leadership, he's a major for a reason.
I'm drunk now, I'm outranked you in philosophy.

Re: Soviet Major Suggestion

I didn't mean the execute ability that those corrupt Soviet Officers have, I'm talking about the execute ability that targets the enemy instead and acts very similar to the Infantry Section's 'Deploy Marksman' ability but instead of using a rifle, he uses a pistol.

Re: Soviet Major Suggestion

To be honest I wouldn't mind him having both, or at least the execution of friendly infantry. Considering a LOT of Soviet officers were actually criminally insane Commisars, heck it'd really just remind me of Imperial Guard in DoW. Poor infantry that does better when you put something scary behind them.

I sympathize with your frustration here but I find the challenge of getting early vet for the major one of the more satisfying aspects of early game play.

I am unhappy with the execute to improve performance game mechanic. Various folks, including me are occasionally reprimanded by the Devs for politically incorrect, if historically accurate comments, suggestions etc. OK that's fair enough; but then to promote executions for disciplinary effect as a game element seems politically incorrectas well.
