Russian buildings

I was just thinking about what the buildings for the russians could be, and what about a sort of mobile command base like the British in OF, it would make sence since the amount of moving about the Russians made when advancing in to Germany. Not sure about the rest of their buildings but that could be for the command base.
Anyone else got ideas for the buildings?

Re: Russian buildings

Right here we go:

Barracks you could call it a Bunkhouse as that's basically what they are.

For the Vehicle Depot you could have a small factory complex like building however there is a problem here as there isn't really such a thing as a small factory in the USSR.

For the Tank Depot however you could have a huge factory and call it a Tractor Factory like the ones in Stalingrad and you could even have it as a feature that all vehicles are made here.

For the HQ I'm thinking like this:

Forum post image

you could simply call it the HQ.

For the Armoury you could have a small workshop like building or here's an interesting idea a truck for there was a truck with a battlefield workshop in the back.

Barbed wire is simply just barbed wire.

For the medic thingy you could have a patrol tent with a white square with red cross on either side.

Tank traps the same.

Bunkers I'm not sure as all the bunkers I find there is no place to put anything on ie. no machine guns, repair, heal.

What I really need is for you to specify to you want the mobile look of the Allies or the permeanant look of the Axis before I do hard picture hunting.

Re: Russian buildings

Yeah I think most of the Russian buildings should look more of Sheds and Barns... or if its an urban map maybe just some factory plants and such..

Re: Russian buildings

The question is do want to make it look mobile or defensive?

Depends, I think that if you are covering the first bit of the War, they were deffensive. But if its thethe later stage when they were advancing very quickly they should be more offensive. So I have no Idea how you would do that :p

You wouldn't and can't.

Re: Russian buildings

I think
USSR must have half-underground buildings like "Zemlyanka".

Maybe some building must be "defensive" and some -  "mobile" ?

No, really, Red army don't have such buildings as front line HQ in 1943-1945. Coz its looked very stupid, and Red army officers wasn't so stupid to place a lot of flags and Stalin's pictures on it, to make a good target for bombers. ("Hey you, in Stuka! We are here! :P ;D)

Hq - Like US HQ, but with red banner on it  :)
Basic Barracks(us "Barracks" & German Wermacht quarters) - Simple square tent.
Improved Barracks ( US weapon support center & German Krieg Barracks) - wooden house, fortified with sandbags etc. etc.
Nice idea about Armory, Vehicle/tank depot!

about bunkers.
I have a very  :P stupid :P idea for you - make the famous Soviet "Rouble and 50" pillbox as a MG-nest.
aid station - "Zemlyanka".

Re: Russian buildings

The Russians had to set up almost all barracks, armories, and other infantry related buildings in captured houses. The  large pictures of Stalin were used as propaganda and to discourage the Germans from trying to take the buildings from them. Vehicles were usually built before the battles in western Russia and called in for reinforcements, and armoured divisions had them on hand always. Vehicles would probably be best left a support option.

Pardon?
How did that work?
Were the Pictures of Stalin imbued with Psychic Energy, which when a German Soldier approached caused it to emanate Psychic waves of "go away"?  :P
Or maybe the Russians airdropped leaflets over the German lines with the words "Soviet Brothel-Now Open for Business-come meet Stalina-Gorgeous Russian Model!!"  8)

Re: Russian buildings

the bunker could be a hole like a square in the ground with a little camouflaged roof with a machine gun in... what do you think?

Re: Russian buildings

if you're ready with the medic station could you got a picture? i'm very interested in this mod...

Re: Russian buildings

I was thinking, maybe the russians could have mobile buildings that can set up as tents, but that could, say perhaps set up in buildings, allthough its probably a programming nightmare. This way you could encapsulate the feeling of both defensive and offensive buildings?

Re: Russian buildings

The idea is good:

Perhaps the vehicle should be a GAZ staff car?

Re: Russian buildings

Idea

when start Russians get 2 trucks
(HQ,command bunker)

HQ - deploys into US tent like thing with a bunker next to it
Com bunker - cant undeploy - Wehrmacht qurtures building look like with antenna and has re force ability - callas in rifle squad or weapon drop

HQ - men get Out dig HQ \ Men get Out of Bunker and pack up

Re: Russian buildings

yeah, or just have the one staff car capable of both becoming a permament base if set up in a building that could be included in the kursk and orel maps the devs are working on or a mobile bunker

the problem is that if you have two hq units, the russians will take ages to set up beacuse the player will have to choose the perfect place for both, abnd both will take ages to build etc.

What if you made it so that you have a HQ, but you have to set up your barracks, armoury, etc. in captured houses.
Instead of Forward Barracks you would see more options, but tank depot can only be set up in large buildings (factories etc).

nice idea, but in 1943 russians were also mobile

I like that idea!

And for more rural maps there could be those buildings nearby the HQ.

But for balance you should only be able to have one of each, except maybe for the barracks.

This could also be used to help balance heavy armor, like the beginning soviet engineers would have a repair skill similar to PE ground forces, and they would have to call in mechanics from off-map.

Re: Russian buildings

Hello all,

I must say epic mod for coh, pure awesomeness. Great job guys...But i cant help it not to bump this thread.

The reason I'm here are russian buildings. People were talking about that a year/two ago and they still look like mix of USA/Brit/Wehr buildings. That pokes my eyes and makes mod look like half done to me. It would be really EPIC mod if buildings get their own UNIQUE look. With other factions u cant compare buildings, all are different. So PLEASE make them UNIQUE...I hope u are on it already but no one talks about it :).
So much talk about Ostheers makes it feel like Russian part is over for development.

If u want me to dig pictures or contribute in any way please let me know. I'm big fan of CoH and WW2. I would really like RUSSIAN buildings :'(.

Cheers! :)
