1vs1 Map Ideas

So, while I'm finishing off my current project, I am beginning to make plans for others. Considering that the mapping poll still has another week to go, I figured that I could get at least another 2 maps planned in this time, one of which may even be finished.

That said, it has become obvious that there are not enough 1vs1 maps on the Eastern Front, so both maps will fit the bill!

The first will be moderately hilly, with a Mediterranean feel to it, while the other will be an enclosed, industrial wasteland. What I do not have, however, are names or locations.

So, can anybody think of an Eastern Front related battle within either of these two locales?

Re: 1vs1 Map Ideas

Hilly Mediterranean feel... somewhere small in the Crimea. Feodosia?
Enclosed industrial wasteland.... Kummersdorf? With an OOB Maus wreck just to tease those who want it in the mod.

Re: 1vs1 Map Ideas

Hilly 1v1... How about something from the "Moonsund Landing Operation"? on the island at the mouth of the Gulf of Riga, the numbers of combatants were relatively low, making 1v1 to obvious choice...

Here is the wiki for it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moonsund_Landing_Operation

Of course, I may well do this myself, but I don't want it suggested that I'm hogging the Baltic zone or anything :P
As for the map itself... Well, the wiki had this under 'geography': "The islands of Saaremaa (German: Ösel), Hiiumaa (German: Dago) and Muhu (German: Moon) are the largest islands in the archipelago off the Northwest Estonian coast. They dominate the sea lanes to Helsinki, St. Petersburg (Leningrad), Tallinn (German: Reval) as well as the bay of Riga. They are almost completely flat, the highest point rising to about 68 m above sea level. Most of the islands are covered in woods, marshes and fields also dominate the landscape. Much of the surrounding area of the Baltic Sea is shallow, making it unsuitable for major vessels."
So... Russian landing point on the 'coast' of the island, with the German forced entrenched in what little (densely wooded) high-ground in the interior? (As a side note: Such a map could quite easily double as a western front 'channel island' map if done just right).

Re: 1vs1 Map Ideas

Consider Maikop for the industrial waste land,  and Novorossiysk or Malaya Zemlya For the coastal scenarios. NIs would be good for Malaya Zemlya. All Are in the Caucasus's Region. IIRC there was a lot of see-saw  type battles in this region as well.

First of all, thanks to everyone who posted in with ideas so quickly! There's certainly zeal left in the community!

QuoteHilly 1v1... How about something from the "Moonsund Landing Operation"? on the island at the mouth of the Gulf of Riga, the numbers of combatants were relatively low, making 1v1 to obvious choice...

This is a very interesting idea, but not entirely what I had in mind. However, considering the uniqueness of the situation, it's definitely on my list of things to do, and you're right about the size being suitable for 1vs1. So long as the devs want more 1vs1's, this will be at the top of the list once everything else is done!

QuoteHilly Mediterranean feel... somewhere small in the Crimea. Feodosia?

This is what I call hitting the nail on the head. Just looking over scattered images, this is almost exactly what I had I mind, so it looks as though we have a winner on the Mediterranean front.

QuoteEnclosed industrial wasteland.... Kummersdorf? With an OOB Maus wreck just to tease those who want it in the mod.

First of all, the Maus? Mean. Just mean. As for the location it seems decent enough (and definitely something to consider for another 1vs1 after all these are done), but Otto's suggestion for the industrial map seems too good to pass up.

QuoteNovorossiysk or Malaya Zemlya

Looking over the history of these two locations and their significance together is perfect, and I can see both being made (if not, the best bit of both in one).

However, if anybody has any ideas that they're fighting to get out, let me know! Work on these won't start until next week.
