Date and times to play

I never did understand why this tourney has no fixed day and times for all matches to play. Afaik every player is sticked to one game so there is no intercorrelation.

What about setting days and time like GR does it? Matches are played at Saturday, Sunday and Monday beginning at 5pm GMT, which is perfect time for everybody.
You fix a day and time like i suggested (Sunday) and if somebody can´t play then you have Saturday and Monday same time as a alternative date. However the game should be fixed until Thursday, when its gonna be played and everybody who participates should agree on it ("Yes i can play and will be there"). If someone doesnt post than its handled like below in terms of a players doesnt show up on the time the game is actually played.
If a match isn´t played, because a player doesnt show up and there is no replacment possible according to the rules, then the win goes to the team that was fully present (screenshot needed).

Its nearly impossible to make a game if everybody randomly posts when he can play or not.

Re: Date and times to play

I work Saturdays. Some people can't on Sundays due to family and stuff. It's always going to be difficult to coordinate this, and forcing them to be played so late in the weekend will too lead to some problems. I have no idea how to fix it, but I don't think forcing a particular time is the best solution as it will lead to a lot of forfeits.

Re: Date and times to play

The duration of a round could be stretched to two weeks to prevent issues related with lack of time.

That would take way too long IMO :(. Would take a month just to get a round of allied + axis attacks out.

IMO its because not everyone can make it and if they cant make it then the territory or battle is lost. Maybe the rules should be changed or updated to accommodate fixed days.

This is probably the solution that will be activated, I've been pondering how to fix the main issue of phantoming.

Yes, it would take a very long time, however currently people are scrambling to get their times in.

Well, I figured this way, this would weed out the "Sorry I work on such and such days" or "I can't make any of those times". The point of the tourney was to be flexible between players and less organization by the tourney staff and more for the players to decide when they play.

I think I will try extending the time limits to two weeks and post the link to Doodle. If that doesn't work we can try fixed times.

Re: Date and times to play

tbh this isn't a problem with rules this is a problem with players, they need to get their stuff together and start being specific about when they can and can't play. Go to the attack on #37 look at the post Kuele made for posting times on doodle, now thats a smart thing to do I recommend everyone use doodle or whatever for their game times. It definitely makes things alot easier.

Smells like a new rule here.

Re: Date and times to play

I'm getting to it :P

However Killar, I have an idea, why not start a poll? It'll give us a better idea of how flexible players would like the tourney:

Question: What type of system would you like to play under?
Option 1: Fixed timing system, players will all start matches at the same day and time
Option 2: Pick your own times using Doodle and compare to your allies/opponents
Option 3: Other

Re: Date and times to play

Question 3: Keep the system as-is and use Doodle + one more week to organize.

Remember, this is meant to be a long-lasting tourney of several months.

The question 3 you presented is the same as question 2, no? :P

It's not morning anymore, is it? Option three would add one more week ;)

Re: Date and times to play

The current system gives the players the choice when to play. However this doesnt work properly because all players need to agree on the same date and time, but dont even post at all. If its a forced time the organizator chooses date and time and the players have to stick to it, which is far easier to manage and obvious for other players too.

However problem is that such a system works for a long annouced event, where players can finish stuff before the date and time because its only one event. This tourney takes place every week. This is the main problem i think, which is unfixable. However i don´t think that players cant arrange a time in a period of 3 days.

Which is why time periods will be extended by a week.

Re: Date and times to play

Than this event will take too long. Look at the current map. There is no real progress. If its prolonged by 50%, then players will loose interest. Doodle maybe a good fix. Is there a way to make it display on the EF page and updated automatically so you dont have to click on the link?

Re: Date and times to play

Hey hey. I say we make a schedule of what times we are available in the week, Like I did for my last game. This way everyone whos involved in the match can view each others availability it becomes so much easier to plan.
Place the times you can play for each and every day. Just make a weekly schedule. And if this thing extends to 2 weeks. Everyone will shoot themsleves okay, and the only suicides that are supposed to happen is Hitler's suicide once the russians reach berlin.

Re: Date and times to play

I think 2 weeks is a bad idea because people inevitably leave it to the last minute anyway and it would take WAAAAAAAAAAY too long to play this out. Assuming Allies win EVERY single game from here on in, it would take us 16 weeks just to get to Berlin.

Better option is force players to post availability straight away using the program you posted. Visually, it's hard for some people to arrange their times. Alternatively we can have semi-fixed timeslots for games. So block 1 is a certain time in the day, block 2 a certain time etc. Some people find it too hard adjusting for timezones so if they know what block to play it would perhaps be easier.
If you get into an argument with me, you're wrong.

I completely agree to this. If you prolong the time per round it wont fix the problem, it will only make the tourney look idle for 1/1/2 weeks and then it'll be just like now.

Forcing games to play 3 rounds of CoH within 3 days should be possible for everybody srsly, even if you're busy with stuff. It's like 2 hours MAXIMUM once peer week.  And even if you cannot play, there should still be reserves that can be ordered. If you dont have time on all 3 days just dont participate in the week's battles.

If someone cannot play on a sunday, the games can still be played on a saturday or friday. Also we need some sort of easy chat system imo to quickly organize stuff. We could setup a basic chatserver like tinychat which would need to be run on friday - sunday.

Just choose your city (or one which is near your location) in the first dialog and watch your time in gmt+X.

Well, Doodle.com already takes into account your timezones, so GMT.com seems redundant.

However, I can invest look into a chat system seeing as the EF launcher chat is not as utilitarian and not everyone likes mumble/has a mic.

I think the general consensus is not to extend game time, therefore, I will not extend it.
