About the Soviet MG station.

I know what are you guys thinking when you see this topic. You are probably thinking some nuts is suggesting the mobile MG for the Soviet again.  ;D  No, I actually agree with you guys on that.

As I recall, a long time ago, the EF had Sherman tank from US lend-lease program. However it was deleted and replaced with SU-76. If I remember correctly, the reason developing team did that is because they wanted a pure Soviet faction with all Soviet designed and built weapons. But look at the Soviet's MG station, they are still using the US made Maxim M1910. So I was thinking, what about a Soviet designed MG like the Degtyarov DS-39. it has a better firing rate like the German MG-42 which would have better infantry suppressing capability. Alternatively, we can have a Degtyarov - Shpagin DShKM 12.7 heavy machine gun that give it a better AP capability.

DS-39 was designed to replace the Maxim, but it was a disappointment. it was only 2 years (1939-41) in service. only 10.000 were built compared to 600.000 maxims.
the replacement for Maxim was the SG-43 Goryunov (produced since 1943), using that one would make more sense.

why do you want to see the maxim replaced? it was a typical soviet weapon in WW2, it was developed by an american-born british weapons designer and built under licence in russia...

And If I remember right the soviets are actually using russian made Maxim machineguns? The Americans have 30cals with water jackets.

Oh, I just thought the developing team might be interested in this. For the same reason they replaced the Sherman. And Maxim is in all Allied faction, it will be nice to see something else for a change.

No, The british have the Vickers. A british improved version of the Maxim, and the Americans have the 30cal with water jackets. ( which is weird because the 30cal without water jackets was much more common.)

Actually no, the Water Cooled .30 cal M1917 is not less common than the M1919 .30 cal (Air cooled), the M1917 was used for heavy positions (MG nests), whereas M1919 was used in squads as a MMG. The reason we see it more is because it's lighter than the M1917 and so a man can carry it with less problems, whereas the M1917 is a bit heavier and unwieldy to carry.

And the Vickers is just the licensed version of Hiram Maxims Machine Gun, as the original gun was built in .303 for British trials IIRC. Vickers didn't modify too much on it.

Info on HMGs in WW2. Explains why there is no reason to swap out the Maxim gun for something 'more Russian'.
