Finnish Army

Eastern Front

#8318

Finnish Army

this topic really goes to the  suggestions, but my PC said that there was an error and I can not open it. so I post it here

I've an idea to integrate the Finnish Army in Eastern Front. This army will be allied with the Germans.
I do a list of the units (abilities, upgrades...), buildings and doctrines.

If u like this idea, I will translate the list (because is in Spanish) and post here.

Thanks for ur attention :)

thats too much

Re: Finnish Army

It's been suggested before and the answer will remain the same - No. We'd rather focus on the main German faction, since Germany was the main force on the Eastern Front, not Finland.

Re: Finnish Army

This was discussed in here: http://easternfront.org/forums/index.php?topic=465.0

And if you're to make finland, then the italians, romanians, estonians and hungarians would cry for leaving them out. I think it is already enough to get Eastern Front as it is to COH. I dont miss finland, even I am a finn.

Re: Finnish Army

I do a list of units and buildings of the Hungarians and the Romanians. Also , I can do a list of Polish for the allies

Re: Finnish Army

The German allies in the east deserves some kind of mention. The best way, in my opinion, would be to represent them through call-in units.

I read suggestion where the Ostheers doctrines could be the three Army Groups (North, South and Centre). Finnish troops (imo they should be similar to Wehr Stormtroopers, with cloaking ability, SMGs and Panzerfausts) could be a call-in unit for the Armygroup North.
South gets the Romanians and Centre... Well, I don't know about Centre. Maybe some anti-communist Cossack volunteers?

Re: Finnish Army

I always thought it would be nice to have the Ostheer as the main german army for EF, but then have the satalite axis countries be represented though doctrines, with doctrine specific infantry and tanks, and abilities that characterize the nations that fought with Germany. (Romania, Finland, Austria, all would be represented through doctrines)

I could see that in a future update maybe ;D but just a little bit. Like have Romanian infantry as a little add on to a tech tree

Re: Finnish Army

Problem is that only finnish Tank brigade students and finnish Waffen SS troops would have been with the germans in eastern front in places such as Stalingrad, Kursk and so on.

Students were only there to observe the tanks in battle and then return back home to finland and start their own training with vehicles of all kinds. Waffen SS' finnish members only operated until 1943.

Finns never reached Leningrad because they didnt want to participate in the siege as much as the germans, they only wanted to reach the old border before Winter War and only crossed it from few places. Same in Olonets Karelia in where they crossed river Svir only in few places. Finns fought on their own front. So it would be highly unrealistic to have finnish soldiers fight in "deep" russia. While romanian, hungarian and italian troops wouldnt be so.

I know for a fact that Romania had several thousand men in Stalingrad

Like a very wise man said long time ago "No shit Sherlock, so what?"

Yes, indeed. There were loads of romanian troops who collapsed when Red Army started their attack to encircle the remaining german troops in Stalingrad. What is your point?
#10072

Re: Finnish Army

Thousands of Polish, French and Colonial troops fought in Normandy with the British, yet the Brits side is only made up of Brits (and Canadian artillerymen strangely).

There is no need to represent these Axis countries through Ostheer doctrines.

True, just look at the different accents of the British Army, kind hinted at Canadians being part of it...

Also, the idea that just posting a list will get you some sort of recognition or praise for helping the effort is kind, but not needed.  In reality, for ever unit on the list you post, there would be dozens of hours of blood sweat and tears poured into it, in the modeling, texturing, bug fixing, and balancing stages of putting it in the game.

This is why I am baffled at the people who post about a certain esoteric vehicle or weapon or something they have some historical fetish about and then whine why it isn't in the game, and how historically relevant it is.

The objective is to capture the feel of the Russians, not be a page for page copy from a history book.

Also, fun & balance trumps realism 9 times out of 10.

even if Finland was made as a whole new country.............. wait a tic................. what happens when the Rusikes send over 4 isu's what do you have? Some small tanks made in Finland and some tanks you borrowed from your ally Germany? I mean face it. Its called balancing. That is your main enemy here. Russia would just kill them in several minutes in a 1v1
#10525

Re: Finnish Army

Harmless correction: Finns never manufactured their own tanks, only bought them or captured them from elsewhere.

What would finns have and what DID the finns have in such situations? Well, thank god they received handheld anti-tank guns such as fausts and shrecks in order to tackle with the soviet heavy-weights. :)

Re: Finnish Army

Not really... Finns just merged a British howitzer onto the chassis of a BT-7. Sure, they made the turret, but anybody with enough metal, a welder and a rivet gun could have done that.

Re: Finnish Army

Assault gun / self-propelled artillery since it was quite like a mix of both. Indeed, it was just a mix of different parts, not meaning it was purely their own. Besides, we spoke about tanks. Assault gun isnt a tank. ;)

Cant talk about mass production either since there were under 20 of them made.

Troll too much?
#10768

Re: Finnish Army

Just had to log in to correct some stuff.

Why all this talk about Finnish tanks? We had
around 50 tanks in the whole winterwar, while the Russians came with thousands.
And the most used AT-weapon wasn't panzerfausts & shrecks,
actually it was molotov cocktails that were thrown into the engine room or right into the cockpit on most of the Russian tanks, wheeled AT-cannons were also used more then shrecks and fausts. After all trenchshoveling it was no big deal to use the shovel to break up a hatch. :D

Sub-machineguns, were seldom used,
this was one weakness when the Finnish flanks were stormed
by Russians, but those times we had the Russian artillery
bombing our flanks(mostly trenches) non-stop which lead to a total massacre of their own troops.

And also, to move fast through the snowy terrain skies were
used very often.

And btw, I'm looking very much forward for this mod! And I don't
want it ruined by some Finnish forces  ;D

I's sorry that I seem to be bugging you for no real reason. I mean if there are 40 tanks in the Finish army then there is no real reason to add them as an army
If you're from Finland and want to see your nation in these mod well I am sorry because it isn't going to happen. I mean they might add Finish troops into the ostheer (very VERY unlikely)
And it is a fact that if you try to play as Finland you would get destroyed.
Sorry that you think I am making fun of you or something because I am not.

There is no knead to shout. I do not know what your argument was (or is) but you sounded to me like you said I was trolling. Well I am not and if I was I would be very very bad at it (as seeing the people who do troll mostly have a very good score) So I cant troll. It seamed as if you were defending Finland in this topic so you have made a confusing front to fight against.
