Veterancy suggestion.

Ostheer Suggestions

Veterancy suggestion.

Hi everybody.

I know the Ostheer veterance system is already made, but i will still suggest my idea, since i think the Ostheer and Sovjet vet is just kind'a copy paste from americans:

Why not make the Ostheer veterancy come over time. Every single squad will begin some kind of "veterancy countdown" after they have been fielded.

Like veterancy 1 comes after X minutes
Veterancy 2 comes after X minutes
And veterancy 3 comes after XX minutes

This mean, that the veterancy WILL come no matter what - but it can't come fast. The vetted squads are just as precious as other factions (except wehr).
The player will also have to decide if he want to invest in some units NOW, that he don't know if he needs - but he will gain the vet earlier.

Balancing wise, im a little unsure if it will make the Ostheer to weak in early/mid game, because they wont have any vetted squads. But in late game, they will become strong - if they manage to keep their squads alive.

I suggest this, because i think the vet system should be unique for every faction (like in vCoH), and i think thís will make the Ostheer playstyle more unique.

Best Regards

Andreas

Re: Veterancy suggestion.

Well then, it's an interesting idea, but I see a very easy exploit for it. Most people would go Fortress doctrine while using Ostheer and turtle until all their units were maximum vet and then charge into the enemy lines destroying everything in their path, and since most Allied Armies gain Vet from combat, they would have few Vetted troops (maybe some mortars or other artillery emplacements) to face the onslaught.

Re: Veterancy suggestion.

Hello, thanks for the reply.

Sitting along in base wont be a good idea in a 1v1 VP game. THe enemy will get the VPs, the good resource sectors, the mapcontrol, the teching and what have you.
If someone mange to lock down and camp, holding the VPs, having mapcontrol and outtech the enemy, then i think he deserves to win!

Re: Veterancy suggestion.

Well I never said that he would camp at his base, he would probably camp at the VPs, with MGs and PantherTurms. Turtling anywhere isn't very sportsmanlike, but if your Vet system becomes a reality it will encourage such behavior in the less experienced players

Re: Veterancy suggestion.

It sounds like a better idea for SU veterancy to me. Soviets were pretty lousy at the start of the war, but built up experience well, and ended quite strong. Does anyone know EXACTLY how SU veterancy works? It seems like its the same as the US system, and if that's the case, an upgrade won't be so bad.
The wise general learns from the deaths of others.

Re: Veterancy suggestion.

SU veterancy is similar to US veterancy. I believe Ostheer will also  be similar to US vet in that you must fight to get better

Re: Veterancy suggestion.

If you ask me Battle Vet is the most logical type of vet.

Staying on the field, but doing nothing doesn't teach you anything other than how to pitch a tent XD. I despise Wehr Vet for that very reason, you buy it, and while it does chip the economy a tad, it also affects all units in that class, which means that any game where you have an over-reliance on a particular group of units, you have an instant advantage in combat while the Amis, Brits, PE, SU, and Ostheer lose their vetted troops upon their death.

Re: Veterancy suggestion.

Yes but as someone explain on GR.org, rifles get free BARs which counter Wehr vet and Sherman gets free 76mm upgrade which counters tank vet.

Re: Veterancy suggestion.

the sherman upgun upgrade is not for free
you have to research it and its global (like all researchable upgrade for usa)

fighting for vet is also for me the only logical way to implement vet

and after the vet is already implemented i dont think we will change it again :P

Re: Veterancy suggestion.

i agree, fightinng for vet is the best way. however, since the game is still balanced, i have no qualms.

Re: Veterancy suggestion.

To tell the truth when I first see Wehr's vet it makes me think of battle between C&C vs Starcraft...
I mean in C&C your units get better through battle while Starcraft each units mostly are hard-counter and get better through upgrades...
There are examples of success so maybe the dev thinks it will works...
And I think it work...

To tell the truth I wish EF to employ different type of vet which already work in other game, but it is certainly easier to balance system that mostly used (the "through battle" one)...
I am sorry for my bad

Re: Veterancy suggestion.

I would like if there was some more uniqueness in the vet upgrades. Instead of just "+x% in Y for vet 1 for units A,B,C, and D", something more unit specific like further mortar range and splash or no sniper bullet trail at vet 3, stuff like that.

their is something unique coming with vet lvl 2,3,4 (if these ideas are still up to date ;))
thread
example: landser squad
QuoteVeteran ("Veterancy 2")
- Stat(s) Increased
- Medic Pack can now be used anywhere.
- Extra StG44 or MP40 (depends on initial Sergeant upgrade)

Quote* Senior ("Veterancy 3")
- Stat(s) Increased
- Sprint Ability
- Upgrade for one LMG OR one Panzerbüchse (AT-Rifle)
.

or marksman on vet 4:
Quote* Ace
- Forward Observer (Artillery Barrage, Smoke Barrage and Box Barrage)
- or
- Sniper Ace (Sniper Camouflage, Best Counter-Detection, Slowest Camouflaged movement; receives a Scoped-K98; explosives; removes Hide ability)

or panther:
QuoteRegular ("Veterancy 1")
- Normal stats.
- Repair Critical Ability - Single Use
* Veteran ("Veterancy 2")
- Engine Overclock (Temporary Increased Movement Speed; Engine Burnout on end which results in decreased max speed and slower repairs) - Single Use
* Senior ("Veterancy 3")
- Critical Shot (Disable Turret of Target) - Single Use
* Ace
- Repair Critical and Engine Overclock available for unlimited usage, but with a munition cost. Engine Burnout no longer causes the tank to receive repairs at a slower rate.
- Stats Increased
- One of the following two upgrades:
- - Command Tank (Buffs nearby friendly vehicles)
- - or
- - Tank Hunter (Offensive stats increased)

QuoteAdditionally, each time your tank gain Veterancy, you can choose to level up one of three crew members (with the expectation of reaching "Ace", which isn't viewed as a Veterancy Rank).
* Loader
- Level 1: Decreased Loading Time.
- Level 2: Optional load HE (Hollow-Charge for Brummbär).
- Level 3: APCR replace AP (Stielgranate 42 ability for Brummbär).
* Gunner
- Level 1: Increased Weapon Accuracy.
- Level 2: Increased Weapon Range.
- Level 3: Increased Chance of Critical Hits (eg. Destroyed Engine).
* Commander
- Level 1: Increased Sight Range and Turret Traverse.
- Level 2: Decreased Incoming Accuracy.
- Level 3: Increased Damage.
* Driver (Replaces Commander Crew Member on commander-less and turret-less such as Marder 2 and Brummbär)
- Level 1: Increased Moving Speed and De-/Acceleration.
- Level 2: Increased Turning Speed.
- Level 3: Decreased Incoming Accuracy and Increased Health.

OH vet system is the most complicated and complex of all the vet systems in the game. it gives you many choices especially for elite units and tanks:
-tanks can be customized by upgrading 1 crew member per vet lvl. addionally the tank will gain different abilities and can be upgraded into a specific role on vet4.
-standart infantry gain abilites/equipment upgrades on vet 2,3.
-elite units like marksman gain vet4 and can be upgraded into a specific role like sniper ace or observer.

Would be nice if they manage to Implement it

Big If though
