IS-3 compared to King Tiger

I just want to know how you should use the IS-3 and in what ways it differs from the King Tiger as well as its strengths and weaknesses. Whenever I try using IS-3s I find it kind of difficult to keep them alive. Thank you for any help given!

Re: IS-3 compared to King Tiger

You know I had a game just like this lol :P.

I think both tanks are fairly equal. I dont actually know this but IMO I think the IS-3 has better armor but the KT has a more powerful gun :P

Re: IS-3 compared to King Tiger

Tank VS tank matches of super heavies like that never occur without support of ATG, or AT weapons.

They are fairly even however the KT should come out on top depending on if the support is fairly equal. Tank micro plays a role here. The IS3 could get a few rear shots and win.

Re: IS-3 compared to King Tiger

eh maybe I should rephrase the question... my bad <_>

So basically, what roles (direct KT vs IS-3 matches not included :P) do each tank fill better than the other? The IS-3 doesn't have machine guns, but against infantry and soft targets, is its main gun better than the king tiger? Also, does anyone know the approximate health points of each unit and if it does so, what unit is the IS-3's front armor comparable to? From what I see its slightly weaker than the KT but then again that could just be me...

Re: IS-3 compared to King Tiger

IS-3 has much less health than KT (1300? vs 2000), is faster, is better against infantry, and gets pretty good vet (with massive requirements). It has slightly better armour but faces stronger Axis AT so it balances out. In a slugmatch, the KT will win. IS-3 is like a cross between Tiger Ace and KT. Strong against inf, reasonably fast, excellent armour, good health, excellent penetration.
If you get into an argument with me, you're wrong.

Re: IS-3 compared to King Tiger

Basically an all around super tank :P. If that helps answer your question :P

Re: IS-3 compared to King Tiger

The ISU-152 is a bit different. It's dreadfully slow, but it has good armor and a uber-powerful gun, but a slow reload rate. It's more of a support weapon than anything because it fires too slow to withstand on it's own. With the proper AT support and infantry support the ISU can be a valuable AT tool

IMHO. The ISU still has a beast of a cannon and the barrage ability can deter as a quasi anti infantry.

Re: IS-3 compared to King Tiger

Why is Jagdtiger = Jagdpanther ??? I though Jagdtifer had a more powerful cannon, longer range, and more armor :P. And its not like either tank is circle strafing (lol ;D)

Re: IS-3 compared to King Tiger

You are comparing battle tanks with assault guns here which imo can´t be done.

It's all a preference. If you want more of a shock unit and a more stand alone speedy thing go with the IS-3. If you want a more combined arms type of vehicle that just rapes advancing tanks, or you're in a 2v2 with a partner who gives good support, ISU-152 is a solid choice too.

Remember you can only get 1 IS-3 and infinite ISU-152s. So you have to consider how good your tank micro is and if you'll be able to keep it alive.

Re: IS-3 compared to King Tiger

Just how powerful is the ISU-152 against armor? I saw it do alot of dmg to an Ostwind but thats an Ostwind :P. What about things like Panzer IV or Panther ???

Ostwind has the same armor as a P4. That applies to P4s, StuGs, StuH42s, and Ostwinds.

The ISU has the potential to deal out large amounts of damage against armor, especially when it's not moving when it's most accurate. However it's downfall is it's reload time, so you need to have it well protected by things like Mines, THs, ATGs, some infantry to protect it from Shrecks, things of that nature.

It can be a anti-blob measure by using it's barrage too.

Absolutely. Not by itself though. Panther will circle.

but if Panther won't circle ( immobilised, mines, dam. engine)... poor Panther... 3 shots. Also worth mentionig is the fact that when ISU gets 2nd Vet it fires like 20% faster.

While slow it always give me that KABOOM!!! impression... ;D
I am sorry for my bad

IDK if you're are trying to be sarcastic here or you're trying to tell me it doesn't kill a panther as easily as Cranial made it out to be. Im assuming you're being sarcastic and if thats so then lighten up :P. I've never tried a ISU-152 and wanted to know if it was worth using it, thats all.

Re: IS-3 compared to King Tiger

IS3 compared to king tiger

+better speed
+better armor type ( the best in the game)
+better accuracy vs infantry
+better splash damage
+veterancy
+not as vulnerable to engine damage

=same damage
=same gun range

-much less health
-takes longer to reload
-no machine guns
-weapon penetration is overall inferior
