interesting WWII photos

When the T-34 came out most of german tanks were inferior, the germans had only  few panzers that could penetrate its armour.

Could the Panzer IV or V(Panther) rival it ???

Yea they outgunned and outpanzered it.

Panther wasn't developed yet. P4 needed upgunning before it could properly face T-34s.

Yea that was the problem those tanks warent avaible at the time the t-34 was causing havoc on the eastern front. So the germans launched a stopgap plan to upgunn/modify most of their obsolete panzers to TankDestroyers  ( Mobile anti tank guns Marders as they were called)  They managed to hold out with that until late 1942 or so - when the panther and tiger came to take care of the problem.

Is that why the Marder I - III were developed  ??? ? I always thought they were supposed to be TDs  :P

Yea the marders were developed because the German army needed more mobile and more powerful antitank options, which was very necessary when the t-34 came out.

Every American tank uses the name of a former general ;)

Lee, Sherman, Stuart, Pershing, Bradley etc.

"Blackjack" Pershing led the Marine Expeditionary Force during the American intervention into WW1. Prior to that he led the hunt for Pancho Villa in Mexico. He was the most famed American general of his time and he died during the earlier stages of WWII.

M36 Jackson, M551 Sheridan, M47-M60 Patton, M41 Walker Bulldog, M24 Chaffee, M4 Sherman, M3/M5 Stuart, M1 Abrams, M26 Pershing/Super Pershing, M3 Lee or M3 Grant (depending on turret)

Armored Cars were named after dogs more than often. It's just we have very few in service atm, if any.

WWII Tanks were commonly named after Civil War generals in particular.

Oh yeah! I forgot the Patton and the Jackson.

Jackson was a prominent Civil War General for the Confederacy. He tag-teamed with Lee in multiple operations and was a tactical genius. Genius as it may be he was killed by friendly fire.

There were two Jacksons :P. Andrew Jackson (1812 general) and Jeffersn Jackson IIRC (US Civil War)

It wasn't a Brit tank, they just had a tendency to name American tanks they received over Lend-Lease

M48 Patton, my friend's gramps knocked a few of those out.

BTW is there a real tank called the Paladin ???. Im under the impression there is a artillery tank called the Paladin :P. Was there a General Paladin ???. That would be a cool name  :D

I think self propelled artillery follows the practice of naming things after church related things, aka M7 preist

of course the brits started the practice of naming tanks after generals and self propelled arty after church stuff

So is there a Paladin Church ???

actaully, i meant its more related to church related positions, such as deacon, preist, sexton, ect
