Cant connect to friends game online due to incompatible version

So been having this issue where anytime me and my friend try to play we cannot join each others game bc the game says they are incompatible versions. at start up both our versions show 2.602.0 and have the latest version downloaded from the EF mod launcher.  I can join any games i see on the game list and can join fine but my friend cant and get errors.  its weird bc he has been able to join another friend of ours games but we cannot and he cannot join public games. keeps sayin incompatible version.  any tips?

Skin packs, sound packs or other edited files installed?

nothing else installed like that just the mod, tales of valor and all others installed through Steam then EF added think its steam? we both are using ToV through steam tho.

Get him to uninstall EF and download the full installer from the site. The auto-downloader has had some issues in the past.

Does everyone's 2.602 vCoH work fine?
