Men Supporting Tanks or Visa Versa

Just a little something i was thinking a bout earlier would be to have something like with linking British Lieutenants to infantry squads but be able to link streklys or guards to Tanks and have them follow close behind or the other way around supporting it by attacking threatening units. I don't know if its possible or if it'd be very useful but it's just a suggestion

I guess it's possible... but frankly why? You will have 100x more control over units when you'll make orders yourself. "follow" ability is totally useless, and unit that follows other one behaves stupid.

this feature is already in a mod, not sure in which one, but i think its in "battle of the bulge"

Well obviously it shouldn't be exactly the same make it better so they support or use as cover

well, not exactly. You see, when tank moves on, the infantry tries to follow it. And then inf's path is blocked by moving vehicle, so they cancel their orders and stop. It's similiar to the "pushing" pios/ing repairing vehicle. They have to stop in order to let the oter vehicle to move... so they walk away from the assigned vehicle to repair, and they do nothing.

I want conscripts to follow my t-34's ;D

Supporting and running behind arent the same thing. This topic should be called Men Following Tanks.

For one thing, there's already Tank Riders that sit on tanks.  If you want infantry to support your tanks, just do it yourself and have your infantry attack alongside your tanks.  Its already possible in-game.  I don't see why they need some sort of follow command when you can just move your infantry and tanks together with a few mouse clicks.  When things like artillery hit and you have your troops stuck in that follow command formation, guess what happens?

Than select a groop of units.  ;D Problem solved.

What if you want 2 guys to go one way and 3 to go the other way :P?

I just select all and when the little icons appear in your comand bar I individually select each unit and order them around. IDK if anyone else does this :P

So you don't like to play with infantry when COH is such a infantry heavy game. It's Not RedAlert 1 you know. And you hate moving your infantry into cover while you got one tank you need to micro back and forth.

Or are you compstomping with MAX amount of pop-cap in tanks and then 2 grenader squads that you want to follow 2 of those 10?

And why would they follow a tank instead of capping, flanking and all that jazz? If you drive on a road the road has negative cover...

Hmm, I think you should learn reading before posting... I don't see there anything about "I hate playing with infantry".

The point is that if you move your tanks you need to make a lot of flanking and that's usually a hell lot of "click-work that's why such a ability would be quiet useful... and no I'm not a comp stomper and if you think I play then you are invited to play a 1vs1 against me and I already know who will win :P.

Having Leningrad, the king of noob maps, as one of the maps you created doesn't sound too convincing mate.

But comparing epeens is besides the topic.  CoH is a game that requires micro, and "click-work" is part of that.

Yauz, noobs need to play too, they just need to play with other noobs. So if a map like Leningrad is great for noob games, let those people be who they are.

And Schdelt is the king of noob maps IMO

@monos: walki1 never said any of the things you claim. You just assumed he must be this raging noob who plays bridge maps ::). For all you know he is an extremely good player :D.

IDK whre you guys gets this vendetta against bridge players from. Sometimes you dont want to play a serious game :P. And even if bridge maps are bad walki1 simply wants something that will make gameplay that much easier and he has every right to ask for it :P

Just FYI everyone, I play Scheldt for fun with my mates.

I can also vouch for Walki's decent 1v1 skills. I wouldn't put him in the "noob" category.

This feature is crap though. The follow command is actually detrimental because the units are harder to select and the follow AI is crap. It's infinitely better to micro the units yourselves.

While I agree with the above statement, I have an idea.

How about instead of infantry following a tank around, make it just pioneers/engineers/sappers/mechanics, so they can follow a tank and repair it when necessary.

it's the players that make a map "a noob map" not the person who built it. leningrad is a very nice map that i love to play and if you get enough noobs to play together you can call every map "a noob map"  ::)

@topic:
i didn't use the feature in botb mod very often, so i can't say much. i like the idea of inf linked to tanks.
but i hate collecting my pios after they cancelled their repair orders because someone blocked them. so if this feature causes similar problems just forget about it.

I've never ever feelt like i needed infantry to follow the tank but!  8)

Somebody mentioned that engineers stops repairing almost nomatter what happenes, thats kinda sad IMO. Sometimes i EVEN have a problem getting engineers to start repearing. BergerTiger is esp nasty when he decides that repairing ain't his job! xD


About the whole "n00b can't move infantry needs to have them with the tanks thing". It was a wild guess no reason to get that excited ::)

If you read the original posts, walki1 here claimed he was a good 1v1 player.  I just stated that judging from the fact he made Leningrad, I had a hard time believing him.  (And yes, Leningrad is a huge noob map, despite what everyone likes to think)

And that was all.  Did I ever say I had a problem with noobs?  No.  Did I mean to personally diss walki1?  No; I just think his maps are shit, and I have that right.

And no one censor this either.  He needs to man up and hear it.  And you won't hear me saying this shit to Sylver about his maps.  Other than that, this whole bridge-stomp noob map conversation is over, so back on topic.

does creating that map make him a bad 1vs1 player? it's like saying that someone who never played coh but created a good map must be a 1vs1 god  ::) no offense but it's stupid.

maybe this thread should be locked, we have heard the pros and cons and it's up to the devs to decide now.
