Dealing with Blobs

I've been playing more PvP games lately and I've noticed ALOT of ppl like to blob infantry. For example:

-British: Blobs of Tommes with Brens, Sappers with PIAT, and 2-3 Lts. with fireflys and 25pdrs assisting ad then everyne one retreats. >:(

-Panzer Elite: Hordes of Shrek weilding and MP44 weilding PG's followed by Hetzers and Panzer IV Inf. Support. :'(

-American: Masses of Rifleman with BAR's, a bunch of Shermans whether they're Croc's or not, or Para's with RR and Sherman support. :(

-Wher: Alot of cloaked Stormtroopers with shrecks and MP44 blowing you up out of nowhere and then retreating. Or 2-4 panther charging at you, despite you APCR AT guns. :(

I've tried several things from mines to HMG to Anti infantry vehicles. Nothing seems to work. And I've played both VP and Annialte games. Someone help ?? :P

Re: Dealing with Blobs

Sounds like your enemys are very good players ;D.JK. No the Inf blobs are easy because whoever uses them like me are very perdictable.Use mines to stop PG blobs then close in with upgraded rangers sterlky or lots of SAS raiders.Don't worry with the MP44s because if your quick enough to get your Inf in there there blob will be suppressed still and would be crawling around on the floor more then shooting.but if they support there units with tanks than basically throw all u have at them arty,Inf ,enplacments and tanks.

For the Brits what u said, well that's just a good tactic besides blobing Inf that's a good arty target.

For americans some mgs and volks with mp40s for the Inf blob then pak in front of the assault to scare there tanks then flank around encircling there attack with panzer4 s or panthers to get there tanks in the rear

For wher use fast efective vehicles supported by good Inf to get there suprise stromys. And by the time players have panthers u should either have (for the americans)tanks to counter or airbones with RRs but if u don't get some rifleman to charge the oncoming panthers let them throw there socks 2 or 1 at each panther (depending on how many rifleman or munitions u have) damaging the engines stoping them from flanking your AT guns a giving them enough time to reangle the line of fire.for brits, get some piats or fireflies/comets.Hoped this helped and plz if u have comments reply and post
This game is balanced in everyway. Every Army has its strengths and weaknesses and you use your strengths to attack the enemy's weakness. If both players know this, than it turns into a game of skill.

Re: Dealing with Blobs

Overall, just spread out and use cover with your own infantry.  Blobbing usually means the guy is just using 1 control group for all his infantry squads and moving around with it, and he is usually not microing individual squad units effectively.

Technically both you and your opponent get around the same manpower income rate.  So lets say he has a blob of 4 riflesquads, and you only have 2 volks, then you should start asking yourself where did the rest of your manpower go into?  On an MG or perhaps a mortar?

So technically, blobbing just means the other guy invested heavily in many infantry squads.  If you have fewer infantry squads than him, then you should have either invested the other manpower on other units like mortars or MGs and use combined arms to kill the blob off, or you simply fucked up because of poor play, and wasted that manpower on reenforcing...lets say your 2 volks as an example, which you will probably then lose the game regardless.

Fishhunterx, the situations you mentioned above are not simple blobbing, however.  They are combined arms, and involve mass infantry backed with vehicles / tanks.  As such, you have no choice but to use your own style of combined arms, such as infantry backed with MGs and AT guns to fend them off.

Here is a replay vs RedGuard, a notorious blobber.  Hopefully it will give you a good idea on how to handle blobbers.  It is a vCoH replay.

Re: Dealing with Blobs

Yauz is right combined arms really is just a good attack on your defences unlike inf blobs you still have to worry about tanks and other vehicles,by then when major assaults like that happen u or/and your teammate should have a good mix of units to counter all or most there units.

Re: Dealing with Blobs

This is what firestorm was made for :P.

The best counter to blobbing, in addition to what Yau said, is to focus fire all of your units on specific targets in his blob and make sure you keep all your units alive and retreat when necessary. Blobbers usually blob because they have poor micro so you can whittle them down quite easily after a few battles by finishing off lots of full squads. This will get rid of his veterancy and also cost him a lot more than just reinforcing squads back to health. Snipers especially can do this job well if you're good at microing each sniper to a different man in the squad. 2 snipers can finish off a specific gren squad in a blob in around 3 seconds. That just cost him 300MP.
If you get into an argument with me, you're wrong.

Re: Dealing with Blobs

Do a google search for DoWII or CoH stats and it should take you to a site with all the listings. It's quite out of date info though and lots of it probably won't make sense to you for weapon data etc.

Re: Dealing with Blobs

As the others said, Mortars, Snipers, and MGs are all nice when dealing with blobs. I usually use MGs to suppress and pin and SMG/MP44 units to clean up. Mines make nasty trap for blobbers as the more men there are around the mine the more that die/get pinned.

Focus fire does well. When you have MGs you should face them in the correct direction and if you see no potential flanking issues, use the MG and give burst of shots towards different units in the blob to disperse fire/suppression. (EG, Shoot at squad 1 for about 5 seconds, shoot at squad 2 for another 5, etc.)

A good rule of thumb to use when spreading your units out is to give each squad a separate piece of heavy cover. Blobbing 5 of your units in one confined green heavy sandbag pile is worse than having 5 units spread out inbetween 5 yellow light box stacks.

When playing PE, use G43-slowing to slow down retreating or low-health units, and focus fire on them. It increases your chances incrementally on finishing them off.

Slowing ability on G43s/Assualt Nade Stun works on retreating units and will temporarily hinder them or slow them. Use this to your advantage and get those weak units finished off. Assualt nades work nicely but eat munitions, and can be easily avoided if your player has even decent skill.

Keep your units spread out and this is much, much harder to pull off. Light cover is the best cover for strafe protection, and the more vet you have the better.

Re: Dealing with Blobs

Get AA units ;D. Watch out for things like Para's. If Im correct in this new patch(2.601) the strafing run makes a loud noise b4 the plane comes. When I hear it I spread my troops out or even just retreat if my base is close. 150 muni down the toliet ;D

AA units are un-reliable unless in bulk. 2.602 does not implement the strafe siren, Eastern Front does. And normally when you hear the said siren it does not give you enough time to spread any units out. Your best bet is to keep them spread out in the first place, otherwise you end up blobbing.
