I want Assassins Creed to be remade with that :D

Re: Unlimited Detail Real-Time Rendering Technology

If Company Of Heroes II doesn't use this technology, i will be most disappointed. ;D

Re: Unlimited Detail Real-Time Rendering Technology

Given the state of this technology, CoH2 would have to wait for another 10 or so years before it would hit the field for games.

Exactly. ;)

Re: Unlimited Detail Real-Time Rendering Technology

Unlimited? ::) Right... :D
Polygon are unlimited too. Its hardware and cost of making that limits them and it will be the same with all technologies. Polygon technology itself is unlimited.
Hope this new tech will be usefull - cheaper in use.

Re: Unlimited Detail Real-Time Rendering Technology

I think the idea of this tech is that these atoms aren't as limiting as polygons. So i guess you should get a significant jump in detail, without needing to get super-powerful hardware. I only first heard of it a little while ago though, so i'm really not sure how it's supposed to work.

Minecraft 2

Minecraft's object have 8 polys each  ;D
So why is there a need for this atom thingy? :P

Re: Unlimited Detail Real-Time Rendering Technology

I wouldn't call it a "need" per se, since videogames have decent graphics as is (or at least used to, until this hi-def shit took off...), but it will bring much more realism to the medium. Next step: Total immersion videogames! :D

Re: Unlimited Detail Real-Time Rendering Technology

Brb, busy parroting Minecraft fanboys. SCAAAAAM, SCAAAAAAAAAAAAAM!!!! ::)

As much as I have my doubts over the practicality of such an engine, I think if it can be honed by skilled developers this technology could be a winner. Still, I don't fully understand how a cloud of 800,000 atoms from a converted high poly tree can run at an equal frame rate as a Polygonal tree made up of 800 polys. They didn't seem to be having much trouble running a real world object in their Demo, but then again they didn't exactly put up the specs of the rig they're running on which would have helped to put it in perspective enormously.

I look forward to seeing how this transpires in the coming months. Seems to me that Notch may have his panties in a twist over a bigger developer bringing out a Minecraft type game with uber realistic graphics which is massively selfish, especially when it seems so groundbreaking. I would definitely have nothing against using this with models in future games so long as the animation and cloud conversion times were squashed to say, an hour or something.

Also physics. Having an idea of how interactive the world is would help put it in perspective, too.

Re: Unlimited Detail Real-Time Rendering Technology

Noob question: where can I find the response by this Notch person because I've seen a lot about it but have no idea where to see it.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Unlimited Detail Real-Time Rendering Technology

Unfortunatly this technology will probably cost a shit load for game developers, but it looks a hell of a badass.

Re: Unlimited Detail Real-Time Rendering Technology

That's probably why people are calling it a scam... you see, if theres no demand for it then those who see it's potential will get in there for the cheap ;D As demand rises, it will become more expensive.

3 words though... Battle... Field... Four...

I would so hit that using this technology. Currently I'm on the fence over BF3.

Re: Unlimited Detail Real-Time Rendering Technology

They already got a $2,000,000 grant from the Australian government, I can't see the Aussie gov giving away that kind of money without expecting some return. Makes the scam idea look like a scam itself.

Especially not to videogame technology. :o
