"Cold War"
First of all, this is not an idea for EF in WW2 but it could be made on it.
So my idea was a mod that would take plase around year 1949... For some reason, the cold war got a spark and bursted into flames. So "WW3" is going in already ruined Europe between NATO and Soviet Union.
Basics
Main idea is that germans would be taken away from the game and playable factions would be SU vs. USA and Brits. The "unlocking" of factios in not a new idea so this mod would serve it also.
Style of fighting werent changed from time of WW2 so CoH makes an excellent platform for this.
Nukes are not needed because they were not used to win single battles. And if I remember right, only americans had a nuclear weapon that time... Soviets invented it later.
Infantry warfare
There would not be much work in inf. war, because uniforms and weapons on 1949 would be almost the same those used in WW2. Only needs would be like M2-carbine(automatic fire) for the NATO forces and SKS rifles and Kalashnikovs for soviets. I don't know much about modeling, but SKS could be made on SVT40 and AK on SGT44. At least I think it wouldn't be impossible.
Armoured warfare
In 1949 (and in reality in Korean war in 1950's) the soviets and western armies used very much same tanks that already are in EF. SU would use T-34/85s, IS-2 and IS-3 for example, and NATO Shermans, Pershings and Cromwells. Only new tank that would had to be created is Centurion (1st main battle tank) for british faction.
Air warfare
This would need most new models. My idea is that airstrikes would be similar to those already are in vanilla CoH and EF. Only planes must be changed to MiG-15's for SU and F-80 shooting stars for USA. If the brits also needed air support, it would be given a Gloster Meteor. Fighters of the era were still armed with cannons and bombs, so new airstrikes wouldn't be needed. Maybe napalm and rockets could be added for jets, and those have models in game. I mean incendiary rounds for napalm and PE's airstrike for rockets. The bullets would only be made to explode :P
So thats my general suggest in a nutshell. You can shoot it down but atleast I shared it ::) I know devs have their hands full with ostheer but this could be the next step in EF. And I know that this kind of war never happened but neither the IS-3 fought against germans ;) Alternative history is always interesting, and for god sakes this an GAME. After all, third world war wasn't so far away during the Cold War.
