Do you like Mustard or Ketchup on your Tiger Berger?

PE's Bergetiger has to be one of the wierdest units in the World of vCoH. Some say its a vehicle recovery unit. Some say its a Rolling Bunker. Some say its a Breath Mint.

My initial thoughts:

  1. As a Vehicle Recovery unit it is very unreliable. Sometimes an at start wreck is recoverable, sometimes not.

  2. Sometimes it will recover wrecks  created during the Game, sometimes it doesn't.

  3. As a Rolling Bunker its value is moot. THe hull mounted MG seems less effective than most vehicle mounted MGs and setting up a shot seems to take as much time as setting up an MG42 squad.

  4. Just how does the crushing ability work. Running LW into the side of the Bergetiger kills them. I have destroyed a Bergetiger with a T90 shooting at the front of the vehicle and a Com Squad Kiting back and forth "behind" the beast. (v1.3.1 - no artillery, no molotovs no casualties, ~30% damage to T90)!

  5. In multiplayer it does give PE access to real tanks but your allies get the most benefit, (read as fun), out of the deal.

What do you THink? Pass the fried onions please.

What pisses me off the most about these things is when they crush a vehicle i wanted to recover... ::) >:(

Also, what's with the impossibly quiet drivers voice? ???

Re: Do you like Mustard or Ketchup on your Tiger Berger?

they can win the game for you, or make you wish you never built one. i personally dont use them unless my opponent is pretty bad i guess in which case you wouldnt really need one nayway lol

Re: Do you like Mustard or Ketchup on your Tiger Berger?

Deep fried onions may cause acidity :P
On topic even conscripts with molotovs destroy a bergetiger with little to no damage to themselves(read no casualties). Lust throw 3 of the petrol bombs, watch the engine explode, look at the bergetiger take insane damage as it tries to rotate to fire it's MG(which never do any damage to anything) and watch it explode and provide tons of xp to said conscripts.
I would prefer ketchup please. ;D

Re: Do you like Mustard or Ketchup on your Tiger Berger?

The berge can be extremely good in certain situations. It especially shines in team games or when you have Panthers, Hummels or a Jagdpanther. Don't even try to rebuild units on the front line. Rather, keep your berge back so he doesn't know you even have one and only rebuild out of his LoS. If you do that, he won't know to destroy the wrecks. If you do want to recover something on the front line, do a massive push combined with a henschel or something to force him back while you do the repairs. Repairing under fire is just an easy way to make an expensive scrap heap. Used properly, the berge can win games.

Re: Do you like Mustard or Ketchup on your Tiger Berger?

Its cool :P Whats buggs me is the 2 panzergrenadiers sitting at the back of it operating the crane.. who survives artillery, shells, bullets, flames and even rain XD

Otherwise Its a godbless! If you during 2vs2 and you are PE and Wehr. Especially if the wehr its going blitz and his tiger gets destroyed. In this way the wehr can get 2 tigers or even more :3

I once saw a game where the wehr player had 5 tigers cruzing around spreading death and terror <3

Re: Do you like Mustard or Ketchup on your Tiger Berger?

I used the berger tiger as a shield for the marderIII. While a Sherman try to chow up it. Lockdowned MarderIII will chow up Sherman. Berger tiger dont have armor like a true tiger but maybe they have a good chance of ricochet right?

I think their armor is pretty much the same as a standard Tiger. You'd have to ask Dennis. ;D

A Bergertiger has the same armor as a Tiger I. However it takes 4x damage while repairing or recovering (Confirm this, Dennis? I'm 95% sure this is right)

Re: Do you like Mustard or Ketchup on your Tiger Berger?

In my experience trying to kill those things while they recover, it doesn't look like it. I can hit them with all kinds of A-T, but they almost always manage to recover the vehicle and get out of there in time...

+1 The berge has Tiger armour (like the Tiger funnily enough) and almost as much health (1000:1064base). It takes X4 damage while repairing.

So... If when they dont have anything to do, berger can become a big-ass steel shield for the paper maderIII :)

When I've used the Tiger Burger as a chopped meat shield ( :D berge); its seems to bugger the LOF of the screened unit. Maybe I'm just seeing things that aren't there.

Units can just shoot through each other, but it may affect accuracy, i dunno. I know infantry take more damage when they're grouped up, which is compounded by that Barbed Wire bug...

Re: Do you like Mustard or Ketchup on your Tiger Berger?

There is (or was?) a bug where Barbed Wire is classified as infantry, and since infantry take more damage when they are grouped up, it's a massacre when they are near Barbed Wire. I found a video on YouTube by coincidence that showcases this, but can't find it again with search. :(

I don't think it's a bug actually, also, totally makes sense.

To OP
The I've seen a Bergetiger recover a Tiger ACE before... that was a game changer

Re: Do you like Mustard or Ketchup on your Tiger Berger?

I don't know about against real opponents, but when the CPU uses them... they are very annoying. The CPU resurrects everything lol
#108958

Re: Do you like Mustard or Ketchup on your Tiger Berger?

If I recall correctly the Bergetiger couldn't/shouldn't resurrect enemy vehicles, because they come back as...well...enemy vehicles? IF this is the case, do you think it would be possible to make 'captured' vehicles that the Bergetiger automatically resurrects instead? I mean, how awesome would that be? No need for reward units like that, just rebuild their wrecked firefly and use it as a PE tank hunter.

I think thik the Bergretiger recovering Allied vehicles who screw wth balance so I would say no :(.

IIRC Bergretiger when it was first used could recover enemy vehicles but this was quickly changed :P

A nice idea but it would just be to OP.
Imagine losing your best tank , an IS3 for example. Against a king tiger . So then you retreat to reinforce so you could avenge your fallen postwar tank! Only to come back to see the IS3 is very much alive but this time with painted swaztikas over the red stars screaming -Panzer IS3 ready¨ next to its former enemy but now boyfriend the King Tiger. ;)

Re: Do you like Mustard or Ketchup on your Tiger Berger?

1) That is not possible. Codewise the wreck belongs to the owner of the unit and that cannot be changed. The Bergetiger has never been able to recover allied vehicles and claim ownership for them. Allies vehicles(in vCoH) have not been recoverable to begin with ;).

2) Bergetiger only resurrects axis vehicles and not allies because only the formers are set up to have such function, soviet vehicles used have that feature however was removed a while ago, so you can't resurrect any allied vehicle, and if you can it is a bug.

Re: Do you like Mustard or Ketchup on your Tiger Berger?

What ought to be done (and I hope CoH2 is doing it this way) is that repairing a wreck should create an unoccupied vehicle. You then have to build a "vehicle crew" of 3 men to come in and crew it again. This way you CAN recrew enemy vehicles, but it would open up the option for both sides to do so. (hint hint CoH2?)

^me gusta^ Damn, now the chances of CoH2's "recrewing vehicles" satisfying me will be slim to none.

Re: Do you like Mustard or Ketchup on your Tiger Berger?

I Wouldn't be to pessimistic about the vets recrewing "White Vehicles" in CoH2 They set the groundwork with ToV and EF_ers noticed the JagdPanther Tiger crew "bug" some time ago. Right now I don't know how to make the system work, (I've fooled around with it though), but if white Vehicles are defined as Syncronous weapons and the crews are made capture crews it might be doable in CoH now.

I would really like to see the FAMO with a vehicle recovery ability in OH but bishop thinks it would not be recieved well. too bad. PE's Bergetiger is fun but it is a wasteof a perfectly good TigerTank, IMO.

@jonaus_drakus. Nice picture butsomewhat confusing. An allied Panther? I am under the impression that recovered vehicles revert to the original faction. Did I misunderstand what you were saying?

I agree with Godlike Dennis.  The Berge's utility is indeed only suited for a specific niche behind the front lines and is best kept out of the enemy los.  It can be worth it as it can save a lot of resources when you are using Panthers and have lost them as opposed to rebuilding new tanks.  Useless in combat situations and really only useful if you control most of the map.

Re: Do you like Mustard or Ketchup on your Tiger Berger?

I'll make 3 Bergertigers supporting my 2 PBG and use them as a meat shield ;D
I never thought about using it that way.  Very tough piece of metal and you can repair in battle, thought IMMEDIATLY cancel when your up against enemy armor, AT guns.  Also one thing, a 57mm AT gun that uses AP rounds vs repairing Bergertigers ends very badly for the tiger.
My personal favorite
