1.40 Soviet mortar upgrade question

hi guys
i have a question

on the description of the mortar upgrade we can read that the mortar gains the artillery ability. first i thought this means the barrage ability but you can use this also before you have that upgrade. so my question is what is these artillery ability?????

The unupgraded mortar is practically the same as the wehr mortar. The upgraded mortar fires artillery size shells.

Ha ha ha, so thats what it was. I was wondering why the shells seemed lackluster...
