How To Stop A Swarm Of Soviet Troops?

Whenever i play against a soviet enemy, they always crush me by spamming troops, so i send in my own troops, they get owned, i send in some more with either a MG, Mortar or Flamethrowers, they still get owned, i sent in tanks supported by infantry, they still get owned, is there any way to stop a full-fledged soviet swarm?

what mod version are you using are you up to date?
1.23?

also anti-blob tactics MG's and mortars carefully placed. or if you can a nebelwerfer.
sometimes the officers ability to force retreat is handy too.

It might be better if you provided a replay so we could give more personalised tips.

It depends on what they have and how they are commanding them. Like Godlikedennis said, give us a replay.

if your Wehr T1/T3 2 pios volks (up-gun asap) mg, mg, volks. Go storms with assult nades. and it all depends how good you are with the MGs. don't use houses. Then pumas. stugs or Gwagen for AT. Stay on the left side and go for the Stuh.

PE is easy; 4 PGs, up-gun the first one with your 50 munitions. Keep the kitten safe and capping. Then inf HTs and armored cars. Take his fuel. You do it right and you wont even need AT lol. You might see a Sherman call in but I wouldn't worry about that piece of junk. Get schricks and Murder

Sounds like something they would do but it wouldn't work that well because they wouldn't get all of the mines, they would run out or POWS, and in battle they would run away or get shoot up.

I read somewhere that in the battle of Kursk they used Goliths to clear mine fields for tanks. Maybe we can have a different type of Golith that is made to destroy mines, but  cant destroy bridges.

But anyway lets stay on topic: Infantry.

Soviet troops are easily suppressed and have no real counter to a nice MG42 other than  a mortar.

And the sniper.

True but a sniper can be suppressed AND hunted by a motorcycle. It's risky but can work.

Not when supported by people. Just throw some constipats and make the mg hurt them and then out the sniper at the side.

Swarm (Platoon, or company) of any army troops can be stopped with full, or part unfolded barbed wire with MGs, or squad of troops + mortar rapid fire with flank armor attack  ... then, escalate full front counterattack.
Victory must be rapid, it is for time of battle ... vulnerability, that you can not give at risk. This kind of attack can be not be main dirrection of enemy charge. Be ready, that can be recon with combat operation & artillery barrage first before attack of main forces. Hide AT guns & retreat the tank platoons to reserve, when it might be usefull & critically needed.

It's for anti-swarm defence, not combat maneuvering.

When I play as PE it depends on what doctrine I pick.

If I go TD I take T1 and increase squad size and pump out grens with G43 to rape soviet hordes. I then usually go staight to T4 to get light AT half track and Panzer IV to deal with soviet blobs. Usually I get enough CP to go straight for hetzers (which I do) but I will go back and build T2 to get shreks later on or if the opponent is t34 rushing.
If I go with Luftwaffe then I'll go with T1 to get increase squad size and pump out grens with G43 as above but I'll either go and build T2 or T3 to get either shreks or maraderIII. going down the command tree I'll head straigh for Whirbelwinds to deal with soviet blobs.
If I go with SE then as before I go with simmilar strategy as both doctrines above: going with T1 for increase squad size, then getting some anti tank from wither T2 or T3 and after that I try to go for T4 quickly to get out panzer IV. For me this doctrine is a bit trickier against the soviets than the other two.

Overall I pretty much try to get either Panzer IV or Whirblewinds quickly because I find that too oftenly that AT rifle squads come out around the same time as PE armoured cars which get raped by AT squads. Plus G43's are so much win!

I don't like getting G43s anymore. And 4 man squads still only get two of them. MP44s is much more effective on these squads usually.

Finally someone noticed that G43 shouldnt be the main PE force. Their suppresive fire is usefull when you want to finish off a retreating squad, but thats it.
MP44 will slauther any infantry including Guards, they can run near an Outpost and kill faster than Soviets reinforce, their good counters (unlike G43) to AT rifle squads, sharpshooters, mortars and all other Soviet infantry exept PPSH Strelky.
G43 need offensive vet to be efective while MP44 slowly heal themselves with defensive vet.
Id rather place 3 flame mines with my shimm than get a G43.
Also the T1, T4 strat requires a lot of ammo.

I don't use more than one squad with G43, because of that. They aren't for those kind of jobs, that's why we can get PE w/MP44.

MP44 are great but the extra 25 munitions is a lot in the earlyish game where I want to give as much extra firepower to all of my panzergrenadiers.

I always try to have at the very least two squads with G43, they are much better for
killing garrisoned units, and right through the game they are effective as long as you keep them behind the other squads.
Mp44's are good, especially when used in conjunction with the G43's suppressive fire ability.
But if I had to choose between the two I would go G43.

HMG42s are a pretty good solution but you've got to be careful if there are more than 2 squads in different directions. I use the work around tactic often. Keep 2 HMGS in buildings, and make sure they target the correct squads, or it could be lethal!

The workaround to this is to sacrifice a unit for a small amount of time, leaving it pinned to the HMG as a distraction, to get another squad to crawl around and get on the other side of the building, and open fire. If the HMG switches to combat that new squad, your sacrificed squad (If it's still alive, hopefully) can open fire, and play tag.

^^ If the first squad is pinned it might take awhile before it fires, giving the mg enough time to target and suppress the second squad, giving supporting squads enough time to help out. When I flank I try to do it with at least three squads from different directions.

I think properly-placed MGs and Mortars might do the job to pin the Ruskies, once they're pinned or busy shooting at your static defense positions, you could flank the attacking force with a platoon of infantry or maybe some 3 PzIVs or Infantry w/Stug III/IV might clear them all out. And on top of that, a swarm of Soviet Infantry can't be defeated just by flanking. Your flanking force might get flanked or pinned in too by Soviet positions behind the Soviets.Ready some troops to attack their lightly-guarded HQ.

As Panzer Elite, I always pick Luftwaffe Tactics. The first thing you should get from this Company Commander is Luftwaffe Soldiers. I've heard from others that Gewehr 43s are bad. It's true MP44s are better, but at least G43s are not bad. The Luftwaffe Soldiers should be used to take on large squads, since Luftwaffe soldiers are large for a Panzer Elite squad. Consider building the Flak 38 gun, but at the centers of the map.

Spieel is on the right track. Here is my generic Kampf Gruppe counter to a horde: During your capping operations identify likely kill zones; for our purposes  a kill zone needs only impede movement a little. LW and SE can create a kill zone with a little barbed wire placed here and there as they shuttle back and forth in their capping operations. Three or four sections of bw is enough but a natural choke point is better. TD needs must rely on a mobile defense. When you see the wave approaching withdraw to a defense point beyond the KZ from the enemy. If the Sovs don't want to cooperate draw em in with kettengrad bait, (any high priority unit will do. Just don't engage). Meanwhile concentrate any available units on the DP, (drag and Rt Click). DF squads with suppression are the priority choice. I like to have two IHTs w PG in my OB for this purpose. Concentrate fire on one squad at a time, (Rt Click movement order). when the first squad is supressed concentrate on the next squad. Toss in a grenade or incendiary round. repeat. as the skirmish dies down  withdraw units and concentrate them towards your next objective. It doesn't have to take a lot of units to stall a wave attack. With the right mix you can annihilate it. If you also have your muni HT in range you can watch the CP meter spin and pile up lots of veterancy for very few mps. I believe when properly executed this tactic perfectly illustrates Sun Tzu's principle of "Dead Ground", in the Fifth Century BC classic ART of War. By the way what are the bonuses applying to a Vet 3 muni HT?

Camrade Sturmovic's Observations are in the main correct. Der Kampf Gruppe seldom has the time to build extensive strong points though. With TD none. No human player is going to make a frontal assault on a fully prepared  defensive position anyway. The comments about diversions is true in both AI and MP play. Don't be loathe to redeploy before you annihilate a Swarm.

The comment was made somewhere in this thread about Goliath's, Probably by a WM groundslogger. I normally only deploy the vampire HT when I have a heavy duty demolitions job. Have any of you Kampf Gruppers figured out how to use it ?

I propose to liven up this thread a little. How do you stop a swarm of unsuppressible Strelky Guards and Ingenery?
