My pet dream

Ostheer Suggestions

My pet dream

Hey developers.

I'd love to see Fallshirmjager in the Ostheer. I know they are in the PE, but I would like to see them actually carry out their namesake. Coming down out of the skies. If it is possible to have one of the chutes carry a weapon cannister, that would be beyond awesome.

They could just land and the weapons would appear in their hands like US airborne, no need for troublesome coding for them to get their weapons from the cannister.

I know its probably no where near as simple as all that, and I'm sure your sick of people and their stupid ideas, but like I said this is my little pet. I would at least like to see paratrooping Fallschirmjager in the Ostheer, but I can see many valid reasons against it.

Re: My pet dream

The thing about Fallschirmjager is that they didn't deploy with parashutes again after they were decimated in the Battle of Crete in 41 which is before the invasion in Russia.

This is probably something you'd like though:

Re: My pet dream

They did use Chutes in smaller more tactical engagements, like Operation Rösselsprung in 1944, but it wasn't widespread.

Paradropped Falls with a 75mm LG 40 would be funky.

Re: My pet dream

yeh that would be something to see.

I was going to mention the later war small scale drops, but forgot to inculde them in my OP.

An aridropped motorbike or kettenkrad would be awsome too!  ;D

Re: My pet dream

Well. This ideas sound nice but you had to ask for the function for the Ostheer. Perhaps it would be cool when german gliders land on the battlefield and spawn a Kettenkrad or something else but what u want to do with such an unit?
An airdrop wouldnt be an early doctrine ability - perhaps the second or third - and so u would such an ability in mid or late game and then unarmed units like the Kettenkrad werent realy nice for an doctrine ability ;)
May the force be with you.

Re: My pet dream

Is it posssible to code a Kettengrad to "Transport" a small gren. squad?

Re: My pet dream

That would require editing the model afaik.

Re: My pet dream

Yeh sorry about that, got a little carried away!

But back to a Fallschirmjager squad, do you think it would be very difficult for one of the chutes to carry a weapon cannister?

It could just hit the ground with the squad and then lay there the rest of the game, just for the look. Weapons could simply appear in the squads hands as they get out of their chutes, like the US airborne.

Re: My pet dream

i think gliders would be cool, it would fit in with the idea of giving them more air abilities.

Commando gliders are cool even if you need 5CPs to get a light tank.
But I dont want Ostheer to have a docrine that is made by mixing US and British airborne trees.

Gebirgsjägers is what Ostheer needs.

Re: My pet dream

The kettengrad  drop would be very recon oriented and very unique.

I do agree a kettengrad drop would be nice and would be able to cause some havoc behind enemy lines.

Agreed. As Lord Rommel mentioned before, the Fallschirmjägers didn't do any real paradrops after the disaster at Crete and historically speaking, I don't think the Fallschirmjägers played any real part in the war against Russia. I believe most of them were fighting in Italy and later in Western Europe after 1944.

Re: My pet dream

But historical reality has a very transient influence on this game (Pershing, Knights Cross Holders anyone?). The fact remains that fallschirmjäger fought on the eastern front (often as regular infantry in the so called 'fire team' role, racing to and fro to emergencies along the line) but I'm sure they carried out a few small scale commando drops, like they did in the west (in the Ardennes campaign).

Mabye the Ostheer could have a mixed bag doctrine, would fit with the ad-hoc style of combat for the Germans later in the war. Although it would be a bastard to balance I'm sure!
