Kamikaze / suicide planes

Was tha japs the only ones using suicide taktiks during ww2? i some times feel like the russians would be a bit suicidal. how often did pilots crash their planes inte tanks when they run out of ammo? did people krash jeeps into their enemies?  ???

the Germans used focke wolfs to try to destroy bridges over the Rhine by flying into them to stop the soviets, but they were shot down

There were occasional suicide attacks, but not often: in Stalingrad a soviet soldier who was gonna throw a Molotov cocktaiil at a panzer had it explode over him when the tank shot at him, but jumped onto the tank, destroying it.

a friend told me the germans traind dogs so that they would run in under tanks and then they put bombs on the dogs so that the tank would explode when the dog ran in under it. sounds a bit weird but it culd be true

Anti-tank dogs, also known as dog mines, were starving dogs with explosives harnessed to their back and trained to seek food under enemy tanks and armoured vehicles. By doing so, a small wooden lever would be tripped, detonating the explosives.

The dogs were employed by the Soviet Union during World War II, to be used against German tanks. The dogs would be starved, then trained to find food under a tank. The dogs quickly learned that being released from their pens meant to run out to where a tank was parked and find some victuals. Once trained, the dogs would be fitted with an explosive charge and set loose into a field of oncoming German tanks. When the dog went underneath the tank — where there was less armour — the charge would detonate and gut the enemy vehicle.

the anti-tank dogs were successful at disabling a reported three hundred German tanks. They were enough of a problem to the Nazi advance that the Germans were compelled to take measures against them. An armoured vehicle's top-mounted machine gun proved ineffective due to the relatively small size of the attackers and the fact that they were low to the ground, fast, and hard to spot. Orders were dispatched that commanded every German soldier to shoot any dogs on sight, for fear they might be rabid. Eventually the Germans began using tank-mounted flame-throwers to ward off the dogs. They were much more successful at dissuading the attacks—but some dogs would not stop, neither for fear of the fire nor of being burned.

well thats weird but wont the biker get fired by the back blast of the panzerfaust? or meyby thats the point... any way i just turned conscript WOOHOO!!! this is my first wery own topic :D. any way if u shuld use sone cind of bike bomb its easier than dogs cuse its esier to find some one that can ride a bike then a dog with a empty stomach that lies under tanks. There were 13 tank destroyer dog units. I'm not sure about them being so effective that the Germans took countermeasures however, the 300 reported Soviet kills is only a fraction of the amount of armour the German lost in total in 1941 and this is reckoned to be overexaggerated. Still it is an interesting piece of trivia. Definitely didn't know about the Hitler Youth Anti Tank Bikes though.

I read that the anti-tank dogs actually caused more harm than help to the Soviets - they were trained with Russian tanks so they ran to Russian tanks. Okay, my source is the Horrible Histories but it is still feasible  ;D

Yeh that happened, but it didnt really make more harm to Russians. Because this problem was fixed fast^^.

This isn't a doctrine suggestion, though that might be interesting for a pacific mod

But you could only use that ability if you were like down to a certain amount of resources maybe. Something like that.

Maybe u get it after u get zero fighter support? Cos once the maps lost their aces they used kamekaze

We weren't talking about the Hitler Youth... We were talking about suicide planes and kamikaze attacks...

Hitler youth didn't ride into tanks: some had panzerfausts along side of handlebars: unless they rammed the tank with the wheel turned to the side then the thing can't really move... Can it?

Besides, they got killed before they used the fausts so how does it matter?

Wow thanks for that tip.  I'd not read anything about these guys before.  Desperate measures for sure.

And yet the return on investment wasn't there imo (very low success rate for the aircraft and men dedicated to this).  Perhaps it was because, unlike the Japanese, this wasn't a suicide mission...just extremely high risk!

This is not balls anymore this is just letting young, brave guys die so that evil fat guys with ugly beards can enjoy the world war a bit longer

When I played COH, long before I had a good CPU and internet access, I noticed that I was using airbourne planes (American) but they never did their job correctly. I began to send in snipers to find out why, and I found a nice Flak 88 and a barn house HQ. I was like Oh fuck this thing is gonna die.

So I withdrew the sniper. I sent in a scout plane, it didn't even get near the map when I heard the engine cut out on it.

I was preparing a bomber when I began to see enemy territory. I was like WTF DUDE THEY SHOT IT.

To my surprise,  about 2 seconds later, the plane came crashing down into the HQ, killing the fully healthed building INSTANTLY, and after it had blown the shit out of the building, a large hunk of burning metal hit the flak, killing the crew and nearly destroying the gun.

Best 50 ammo used. Ever.

Soviets were known of ramming enemy planes in 1941, when the red airforce was mostly obsolete.

About 200 "taran" (ramming) attacks were made by Soviets between the beginning of Operation Barbarossa and the middle of 1943.

One time, me and my friend made a bunch of flak 88's. The other play kept trying to call in bombing runs on us, and we just kept shooting them down.

What really sucked, was that some of the crashing airplanes crashed into our 88's. It was funny.

The first known instance of ramming in air warfare was made by the Russian pilot, Pyotr Nesterov on 8 September 1914, against an Austrian  plane.

Anyone else intrigued by the fact that ramming was still a viable tactic in WWII?  T-34s did it vs Tigers as well, btw.

Yeah but if they do it for T-34's people will want the tigers to be able to roll over anything and everything else. ;)

In the Vietnam war the Vietnese would strap bombs to starved shildren and send them over to the US base. The US soldiers would give them some gum and rations then *boom* No more Soldier, no more child.
