What The soviets need to be completed !

Red Army Suggestions

What The soviets need to be completed !

First of all , great mod its amazing, everything works fine and makes sence . I just have a few suggestions that would round the soviet army off nicely.
1. Instead of having a british Mg bunker at the start ( or to build) , It Should be a slightly different bunker that has a Maxim machine gun in it.
2. I think the upgrade for the guards or perhaps another squad were supposed to get Dp-28 light machine guns , they have the british bren guns though, so dp-28s would be pretty good.
3. The hq buildings could be changed if possible but the dp28 and maxim replacements would basicallly complete the soviets

I couldn't agree with you more. These are along the same lines as things we are trying to do.

Re: What The soviets need to be completed !

These are already on a ''list'' alongside IL2,Zis-2 and M20 122mm for the fire base

When and if they'll be done is another matter altogether...

Re: What The soviets need to be completed !

NO, Russians need T- 28 M =D
maybe as a docrinal call-in or as a HQ call-in but still it would be nice to have .

Re: What The soviets need to be completed !

But they will have far more tanks than any other army which could be unfair

Re: What The soviets need to be completed !

The Russians had far supirior numbers of troops and tanks from the start, what difference will it make, actually look up T-28 aswell its not as good as the T-34 but is still an awesome tank,(Literal definition  Awe-some, full of awe or wonder I don't like slang) Its equivalent would probably be the Puma 50 mm armor-wise .

Re: What The soviets need to be completed !

An armoured car? What happened to the BA-64?? The KV-1, perhaps as a reward unit with the KV-85 upgrade. SU-122, assualt gun/howitzer. While we have the KV-2 to fill in that role, it is a doctrinal only. SU-76 as a reward unit?

If I was a team member, i'd do whatever i'd have to, to get the T-35 in game. I don't care what anyone says about it being a bad tank, as an infantry support tank it would ridiculous. How can you guys sleep at night knowing that beast is not part of your mod. :)

It's like the Maus. Completely badass, probably scare the shit out of people, totally impractical.

Re: What The soviets need to be completed !

Not totally. It was sent to fight Panzer IIIs, who had radio and were much faster. Also it was complex to maintain and 90% of them broke down. In actual combat, the KV-2 was impractical too in many ways but was still somewhat useful. Even with the 11 man crew, the crew compartments were seperate. And yes, i'm sure the few that got to the front lines initiatlly scared the shit out of the Germans.

Well didnt the Tiger have a rep. of breaking down ? not as extreme as T-35 but I agree The game needs it.

Re: What The soviets need to be completed !

The Tiger I didn't break down much  more often than any other tank really. The problem was that when it did, it was a nightmare to service. Way too complex, and too slow for divsional use. The Elefant, Jagdpanther, and King Tiger were more prone to break down. Early Panthers were infamous of barely being able to get into the battlefield. The Jagdtiger.......The Jagdtiger was just very very unreliable. I see it as the epitome of German heavy armoured vehicles but to the most extreme: Very effective, when it did do its job, but just a logistical headache.

The Panther's only real downfall was its transmission system and gear box

Mostly true.
But the Jagdpanther had a Panters hull and was well tested before going into battle (a rare thing in the late war german army). It was as reliable as a Panther.

Re: What The soviets need to be completed !

I think the T-28 would be cool. It would be kinda like the "churchill" of the Russians, great for infantry support.

Not a "tank" as much as an infantry support vehicle, and like someone else said, it was a defense busting tank more suited for the battles of WWI.

Nevertheless, It would still be cool.

Errmmm...NO. You got it all wrong. T28 was an obsolete tank design and were all pretty much wiped out in the first two months of the war. So its like it never took part in ww2.

Churchill was a heavy tank used from 42-45 and boasted some monstrously heavy frontal armour of 150 mm in the last models. Its comparable to the KV1, both tanks being too heavy, too slow, mechanically unreliable, very heavy armour and what amounted to a piss poor gun to fulfill the role of a heavy tank after 1942.

Re: What The soviets need to be completed !

T-28 is nothing more than a novelty Tank, like the T-35 or SMK. CoH cannot really simulate how utterly crap they were, unless you want us to code them to breakdown every 2 feet.

KV-2 is the only novelty tank we have in the game right now, and even that will be replaced with an SU-122 at a later date.
#32426

Re: What The soviets need to be completed !

Well, the churchill had a "piss poor" gun too. All I was tying to say, was that they were designed for similar purposes. Also, who cares if it was only active in the early months of the war. This game covers 1941-1945, so it would be fine.

Also, I am aware that the t-28/t-35 had bad armor. (It was hardly two inches actually). But for the sake of gameplay, they armor could be increased a little. I just think that it would be a cool new aspect to add to the Russians, give them some more variety.

We care for a start, the majority of them were wiped out in the first few months of the war... they are very VERY early war. We'd rather use our spare time getting more 'useful' and 'popular' vehicles in the game, instead of these useless multi-turreted dinosaurs, we don't even know if animating multi-turrets is at all possible yet (if we did, the IS-2 would have a working back MG)

Who cares?? There is already  stuff in the game that was hardly used, like the IS-2. It wasnt used until the very last months of the war. Or the V1, it was only used against London. Or the Pershing, It didnt appear until early 1945.

However, if it cant be done, it cant be done. If you cant do all the animated turrets, then we might as well not even think about it at all.

Doesn't the WWI mod have working multi-turrets? You guys should consider contacting them...

IS-2 came into use 14 months before the end of the war, it was numerous, successful and has a use in game (countering Axis heavy tanks). T-28/T-35/SMK were neither numerous, nor successful, nor would they have any real use in game.

Re: What The soviets need to be completed !

Lets cool down this senseless conversation. In fact these tanks were somehow cool just as burro called them "dinosaurs" X-D but yet they arent doable and a sensefull and historical acurate use is pretty hard to do.

We gotta love you for that.
But will it actually replace it or will it be a reward unit?

Yeah, I mean rewards. We wouldn't remove a perfectly working Tank.

The point I was trying to make is that: gameplay>accuracy. All I am trying to say is that it would be cool if the Russians had some more variety.

And hey, thats just my opinion. All I am doing is making a simple suggestion, thats it. But ya'll are the developers, you do what you think is best, you know more about it than i do.

Re: What The soviets need to be completed !

the SU122's armor wasent exactly thick..45mm, althogh it was sloped so it was basically like a T34.
#32545

Re: What The soviets need to be completed !

yea, It was a "tank hunter" it didnt need thick armor. It was designed to take out tanks from a long distance.

Re: What The soviets need to be completed !

No guys you are wrong. Actually you are thinking about the ISU-122 not the SU-122. These vehicles used totally different weapon designs, only the caliber was the same.

Here for comparision:

The "Tankhunter" ISU-122:

The "Howizer" SU-122:

As you can see, the SU-122 is a mobile howizer, thats why replacing the KV-2 makes sense. Maybe it would have more range and would act like a priest but therefore it would have less amour which would be a good compromise.
