PTRD's & Petrol Bombs

The PTRD is way too strong against heavy armor, I agree it should destroy light vehicles but I think it should only have a slowing effect on heavy armor the way the Bren Gun can button a tank, that is what they used them for in the late war anyway.

Perhaps when you upgrade the Man vs. Tank it will then become possible to track-off a heavy tank & stop it completely so the infantry can have their way with it but the idea that PTRD squads can actually blow up a Stugg or a Panther is a bit silly.

On the other hand the Soviets would also use Petrol Bombs as anti-tank weapons, the idea was that they would throw it on the back of the tank & the engine would flood with smoke & stall, the crew would also have to get out when the air intakes would fill the cab with smoke & then the Russians would shoot them as they jumped out ... perhaps a slowing effect on a tank or even an engine stall would be a cool way to make the Petrol Bomb more useful.

Naturally the conscripts throwing them would not be all that accurate & may need many tries to actually hit the mark, but that is what more conscripts are for!

Taking from Tails of Valor a bit, maybe the Ostheer tank crews can bail making the replacement tank less expensive or leaving the hulk to be recovered later so crews can gain veterancy as the game goes on & even pilot different tanks!

I digress, I'll drop that one in the Ostheer thread.

Re: PTRD's & Petrol Bombs

Sometimes, gameplay beats historical accuracy.
But I do want petrol bombs (Molotovs) to be able todestroy tanks.

No, that would be far out of the realm of reason. If that did happen I would stop playing as it would make the soviets op because then all they would truly need to do is amass conscripts.

I meant probalbly not destroying tanks in one shot, but doing some damage like an AT grenade guards and AT Riflemen throw.

Re: PTRD's & Petrol Bombs

Actually, "petrol grenades" was directly an anty-tank weapon.

It had a name of "KS", (Kerosinovaya smes' - "Gasolin mixture"), and was actually a misture of gasoline and white phosforum. When bottle hit a panzer armour and crashed, white phosphorum manage to self-burning cause of reaction with oxigen.

It was recomended to throw that KS-bottles to motor part of tank, and if successfull, tank had no chance to survive.

Re: PTRD's & Petrol Bombs

Its all about gameplay in this case really...what's the point of having an AT squad that can't damage/stop tanks?? There is nothing more annoying than a stug running over 3 squads of men because of the pathing bugs. AT rifles can and in fact will do better in the future vs tanks because that's the whole point of having them.

If they were useless vs tanks in game terms, there would be no point in building/using them..we'd use the billions of socks+C4+grease that US use which we ALL KNOW was a much more effective weapon than a panzerfaust...not

Oh, so putting alcohol in there doesn't work? What about throwing it down the tank's hatch? :o

Re: PTRD's & Petrol Bombs

No the idea behind a molotov cocktail is that because petrol vapourizes so fast that you will have an actual fire ball of both burning liquid and burning vapour.

But alcohol is flamable, so is it possible to just make a simple molotov by attacking a fuse of some kind to a bottle of wine or beer and throwing it at the engine, would it still cause hell inside the tank?

Re: PTRD's & Petrol Bombs

Well yeah it would work. Probably a bit better if you use some sort of strong liquer because it doesnt vapourize as easily it would be able to just flow like a liquid and go into air intakes and yeah, fire isn't always fun.

no beer is not flamable therefore you could not use it as a molotov cocktail.

Well of course, most of it is water.

Re: PTRD's & Petrol Bombs

I dont have too much of a problem with the damage done to armor, however the PTRD is too effective an infantry killer. When you have a bunch of them together, they're like snipers with cannons and tear through my infantry despite being behind heavy cover. I understand that the PTRD is 15mm hand-cannon but I cant see how a lesser-trained russian soldier can pop heads with this thing considering its mass and recoil. I simply suggest a slower reload, slower running pace and reduced accuracy when it comes to infantry. My reasoning is that unless the AT soldier is already set up and static, I dont see how he could set up quickly and effectively enough to fire one shot, kill and do the same thing over just given how hefty the rifle is in real life.

A bunch?
Use a bunch of infantry to couner them.
Dou you have a 1.04 path?

Re: PTRD's & Petrol Bombs

I've got 1.04. The thing is when I counter with either infantry or an MG squad they seem have the tendency to outshoot my guys armed with K98s or SMGs. Anyway I'll try to pay more attention next time I play to make sure Im not exaggerating.

Re: PTRD's & Petrol Bombs

The traditional Molotov Cocktail was just some sort of Alcohol inside a bottle with a rag as a fuse, they light the rag throw it at something and the fire(on the rag) ignites the alcohol. The Russians had a more advanced version which was already said here that used chemicals and reactions to light the Fuel.
