OstHeer Vehicle suggestions

Vehicles for Ostheer:

The Wespe or Grille self propelled artillery piece as a standard non-doctrine tank, in counter to the russian 122mm firebase (also a standard unit) with lockdown ability, similar to that of the hummel.

The elefant/ferdinand tank hunter vehicle, with the 88cm pak 43 on the original porsche tiger chassis, a kickass tank hunter but useless against infantry for the lack of any defensive machine-gun armament, keeping it historically accurate. Lock down ability would be nice also, similar to the marder III.

The Jagdtiger tank i suggest as a doctrine only vehicle, as a possible counter to the ISU-152. both similar design concepts, plus would be cool to see them face off and to see the 128 mm pak 44 in action would be an added bonus.

Re: OstHeer Vehicle suggestions

I would want to see the Jagdtiger, Nashorn, Elefant, Panzer III, Panzer IV, Sturmtiger, maybe Landkreuzer 1000 Ratte or Lrandkreuzer 1500 Monster
Guards of the Red Army. Today, the German Reich is done away with!

Re: OstHeer Vehicle suggestions

Elefant had a hull MG, Ferdinand didn't, so an Elefant wouldn't be totally useless.

Quotemaybe Landkreuzer 1000 Ratte or Lrandkreuzer 1500 Monster

You can't be serious?

Re: OstHeer Vehicle suggestions

Wespe sounds good.

Any kind of artillery would be good really, stationary or self propelled.

Why not both? But the howitzer is a non-doctrinal unit. And there already is a Wehrmacht howitzer in game, just it can't be built.

Originally designated as a tank, it was redesignated as a fully tracked reconnaissance vehicle. It mounted the standard Panzer II turret but without a cupola or vision ports. The suspension had 5 sets of interleaved large bogie wheels. Served on both the Eastern and Western fronts through 1945.' Only 131 were built. Only a few rare examples remained at the end of the war. This rare photograph is a Luchs at APG just after WWII.

The Grille (Cricket) was developed by adding a heavy infantry gun to the 38(t) Czech chassis. The gun was protected by a heavy spring flap, a feature of the siG 33/2. Served in Russia, Tunisia, Italy and France. In 1945 still in service. About 282 were produced.

This extremely rare vehicle was a SP 38cm mortar on a Tiger I chassis. Hull was unchanged and a large box superstructure was added. The short barreled mortar projector fired a massive 761 Ib. shell up to 18,000 feet. The design was unusual in that the projectile was rocket assisted and the gun tube had vents in the wall to expel propellant gases forward. An attached crane was used to breech load the projectile. It was intended for street warfare or operations against heavily fortified defenses. Interestingly, this weapon was developed in 1943 by the Navy
as an anti-submarine weapon. The Navy dropped the project and the  Army mounted the weapon on the Tiger I Ausf B chassis as an assault gun. In December of 1944, 7 Sturmtigers participated in the Ardennes offensive but were thoroughly unsuited and unable to keep up with the Panzer IV and Panther tanks and, as such, made only a modest contribution. Some 18 Sturmmorser Tigers were produced in 1944 from damaged Tiger I tanks.

1944 - German Panzerjaeger lV/70 SP 7.5cm Assault Gun  (Sd Kfz 162/1)  mounted on PzKw IV chassis.
Forum post image
Heavily armored turretless AT gun. Over 1500 built. Improved version of the Jadpanzer IV with longer L/70 gun replacing the L/48. First used in numbers during the Ardennes offensive (12/44) when approximately 137 were available. Used as both an assault gun in support of infantry and as an anti tank gun. The long gun made the vehicle nose heavy with heavy wear on the rubber tired wheels which were replaced with steel rimmed wheels.

Speed:                  25 mph
Range:                  105 miles
Crew:                    6
Weight:                  70 .6 tons

A heavy self-propelled anti tank gun mounting a 128mm gun on a Tiger II chassis. Only 77 were built. Issued to only two combat units. Employed in the Ardennes front and later in defense of Germany, such as the Remagen bridgehead in 1945. Most powerful armored vehicle of WII. Ponderous and underpowered.

Re: OstHeer Vehicle suggestions

Why do you want all the time the Jagdtiger and the Sturmtiger? Weapons which had never fought ( or just 2-3 days ) against red army?
In my opinion this weapons are interesting but not a possibility for an army which should represent the hole eastern front.
May the force be with you.

Re: OstHeer Vehicle suggestions

I am sincere now =>i don't really care if this two tanks will be or not for Ostheer, because i prefer to play on the allied side. With Ostheer will be just few games for finding their weakness.

I exposed just few ideas, and if are considered bad it don't matter...

But how about small tanks like Luchus and Grille ?

Luchus is great but id rather see a 20mm quad halftrack becouse OstHeer needs an AA gun. Light Italian/Romanian/Hungarian tanks and PzIII would be nice too so theres no need for another german light tank.
Grille/Wespe is a doctrinal must have to Ostheer.
Jagdpanzer is a great non doctrinal unit (with a Panters gun upgrade).
Jagdtiger is too heavy. Elephant should take his place.

Re: OstHeer Vehicle suggestions

no reaosn why we cant have pz2 as an early game tnk and pz3 as a mid game tank with 5cm long barrel OR 75mm stubby, individually upgraded on each tank for fuel cost.

ammo not fuel

actually i think fuel would be better because instead of global upgrades you have that

Every army needs an AA gun. Even Russians have a T-90.
20mm quad halftrack would be great.
The reaoson why we cant have Pz2 is that every OstHeer would have too much vechicles.
Balance reasons are important too. There cant be no armor thats immune to rifle bullets before the US can get a 57mm and UK can get a Stuart.

You got some good ideas about the PzIII. I just had a different concept.
In my opinion PzIII should have a 50mm becouse 37 mm would suck from the begining. 2 minutes after the 1st PzIIIf there would be a Cromwell or a T-34 on the field. Theres no point of a 37->50mm upgrade that needs to be done every time.
The PzIIIL should be a Stuart/Greyhound/M8 counter and 2 PzIII should be able to destroy a Cromwell or a T-34 (rear shots).

There should be a StuIII (stubby) with a global long barrel upgrade, becouse 11.000 of them were bulid. More than any german tank. Thats why theres no need for a second stubby - a PzIIIN.

Re: OstHeer Vehicle suggestions

i was kidna thinking pz2 would be equivilent to a sdfkz 234 or stuart, but with a 20mm gun. (would be better aganist vehicles then sdfkz's 20mm tho)

i do agree about the aa tank thing though but there are only a few aa tanks that arent already used...

Okay then i guess PZ3 could spawn with 5cm short barrel, okay aganist everything, and then could upgrade to long barrel for fuel and or ammo cost. If we have stug3 then thats okay.

A Brumbar sturmpanzer ? Pz IV chassis with a 150mm stuh 43L/12 gun : Forum post image

Re: OstHeer Vehicle suggestions

Maybe the panzer II should be some early tank and can be destroyed by normal rifle ammo, i know that's out of reality but that's nothing new even PE infantry halftruck or sdkfz 222 can be destroyed by rifles in the game but in reality its nonsens so i don't see a big problem about destroying pz II by rifles too...

Re: OstHeer Vehicle suggestions

I know there is already a model for a Sturmtiger, used in the old Botb mod and was basically a v1 on tracks that could t hit shit had range and reloaded faster.

@lord rommel: guess the fact that pershings were included in vanilla coh keeps some people pushing to get those units in as well ;)

i think lord rommel is right:
-jagdtiger would be unrealistic (maybe some fought at berlin?!)
-sturmtiger as well, let's use the sturmpanzer iv "brummbär", same type but smaller and more common
-instead of using tons of rare units it's better to use the more common tanks for the ostheer (panzer 2-4, panther, tiger1+2, marder2, sturmpanzer 4, stug3, etc.)

Re: OstHeer Vehicle suggestions

This "common" tanks are still better to represent a Ostheer which fight on the HOLE eastern front FROM 1941 till 1945.

So my point is that the Ostheer had to represent the hole frontline from start till end of the eastern battles
and Jagdtiger and Sturmtiger ( or Maus ) wont fill this representing-function!!!
May the force be with you.

I now understand that the Landkreuzers will not be in the Ostheer. I think I would want Panzer III too. I've been hearing Jagdtiger will not be in the Ostheer. But I still want the Rhinoceros and Elephant

Panzer 2, Panzer 3, Stug 3, Marder 2 and Brummbar as a doctrine call in unit would be good

Re: OstHeer Vehicle suggestions

Limiting it down to 8 vehicles.

I would choose

Panzer III (Begins as an Ausf G, can be upgraded to an Ausf J)
Panzer IV Ausf G (can be upgraded to an H)
Panther (Starts as the early Ausf D model, can be upgraded to an Ausf A or G)
Tiger I
StuG IIIG
Elefant ("doctrinal" call-in)
Nashorn ("doctrinal" call-in)
Jagdpanzer IV L/48 (Can be upgraded to an L/70 model)
My Ostheer faction idea:

You'd have either Elefant or Nashorn not both they had same armament and were heavy tank hunters only difference being the Elefant was slower and with more armour

the Nashorn was very weak armored  and was set up more like a Marder
