Soviet Sharpshooter has SVT-40 instead of Mosin-Nagant?

Just asking, but why does the sniper use an SVT-40 instead of a standard Mosin-Nagant 91/30? I've read that SVT-40s suffer from vertical shot depression, which was unacceptable for a sniper rifle.

I read that this rifle (СВТ-40) was circulated only among the marines.

So the soviets were using SVTs while Germans were using
K98's ;) Ge43 only came out in 1943... ;)

Germans picked up SVT-40s (very prized weapon), and the G41(w) was issued in small numbers.

On topic: the SVT-40 has the same barrel-length as the Kar98k. This barrel length is shorter than the M91/30, but since the Kar98k uses different ammunition, I can't really say that the SVT-40 has the same accuracy -  but the accuracy of it should be considered pretty good.

I do think that the sharpshooter is correct in having the svt-40, but the sniper ace should have the scoped mosin-nagant with camo cloth, this would make him more unique looking and i know snipers prefer bolt action in lower calibers as it is more accurate and stealthier. whispers "One shot one Ritterkreuz"  ;)

Yes, I think the sniper ace looks just like a sharpshooter without the spotter. He should at least get a remodel in a later patch.

Heavier ammunition flying at the same speed as lighter ammunition is actually MORE accurate, (although this is not calibre) because it takes more force from the wind to displace the bullet's path on the heavier round.

Anyhow. I don't see a new Mosin Nagant scoped as neceary, but it might be nice. Especially if it used a different sound, so that an Axis player could easily identify (by hearing) if their troops are being snipped by an Ace or Sharpshooter team.

SVTs were very good guns but required alot more care and cleaning than a Mosin. In the hands of the average not particulary well trained soviet soldier and under those harsh conditions, it jammed/damaged very often which is why they kept the Mosin as the main production weapon...
Otherwise the whole soviet army could have been equipped just like the US were with the M1Garand

I know that they are the same calibre, i mean't that one is bolt action and the other is semi automatic, bolt action has the advantage for snipers due to the fact that when you fire there isn't the recoil of the bolt assembly moving back to chamber the next round and you can chamber the next round with a bolt action rifle at your own leisure, nice and slow as not to give away your position and also try and catch the empty case as its ejected, the svt-40 had the bonus of putting more rounds down at a better rate of fire its a pointless arguement really as both weapons were just as good as the other in different ways, i just feel that the sniper ace should have a scoped mosin-nagant just to make him look different plus a sniper ace should kill with one shot knowing he has to re cock the weapon for another attempt thus adding the pressure of doing it in one shot, i dunno just looking for that perfection as he is the "sniper ace"

See thats the silly bit is Relic equipped the Wehr sniper with a scoped g43 yet they both have the silly tendency of taking like 6 seconds in between shots where you can easily fire and come back on target with a semi in about 3 seconds. Also the G43 was basically the SVT 40 with a different body, round, and a sprinkle of German refinment including the elimantation of the tilting bolt part of the action.

But  won't a skilled sniper line his shots up before taking them? Instead of rushing a shot he waits for the perfect moment?

If they're going for a guaranteed kill, they'll actually fire far slower than they do in-game.

However, in frenzied battle situations (rather than a stalk/ambush situation) they can fire quite a bit faster.  They're just less accurate and won't be aiming for the head.

Everyone aims, it's not a variable you have to consider.  The effective rate of fire from a Garand is greater than that a Kar or Enfield.

My point is that they keep them all firing at a similar speed because it keeps things balanced.

It is quiet simple to aim with a scope at what I believe Relic thinks is about 200 meters, I can easily put 10 rounds from my PSL downrange in a 4 inch cluster at 300m in about 45 seconds. Forget that though, 8doczzz1 is right about balance and how the Americans and technically the Brits use bolt actions and when you have to work the bolt you at least jiggle the whole gun around often taking you eye off the scope even when rested, and with a high powered scope IRL at range it can take longer than 10 seconds in cases to find and train on the target again. So I would say 6 seconds or so is a good compromise in between gun types for balancing purposes.

I miss my .308 Rem that I had, I could put a group of 5 rounds with in a minute in less then 30 seconds at 500yds +... I miss that gun :(

Not bad, it is hard to find a 500 yard range in USA MA though so I am not quite sure how I stack  :-\ . Longest one in my area is 300m.

That was like 6 years ago though, I am out of practice
