Ostheer Suggestions

Lock ability

Hello guys i hawe an idea that the soldiers can lock to a tank or a vehicle (just like lieutenant or comand vehicle to tanks) so they go behind that tank and cant be suppressed or hit because they use cover of vehicle or tank also the armor vill slow a little bit so the troops can be behind it so it has + soldiers in cover and - tanks and vehicles slow a little bit
here's a picture of what i mean

only one squad can follow one vehicle or tank...
so what do you think? i hope i write it so ou all understand what i mean...

Re: Lock ability

that seems really freaking AWESOME! I already do that but it would be great to see them right in a neat line behind a tank and not getting killed by a mg (maybe make it so only one or two squads can go behind one tank to keep it balanced)

Re: Lock ability

it dosent seem like a bad idea, but dont the soviets have enough suppression resistance and suppression breaking abilities?

Not to mention (And i have no experience) But that seems like it would be tough to even code in a mod.

Re: Lock ability

Could work for the Ostheer.

Re: Lock ability

it can be a ability that is from a doctrine some kind of urban doctrine for better balance because its a good tactic maneuver... ;)

Re: Lock ability

In Stalingrad, the Russians would use mortars to separate infantry from tanks as the Germans advanced so they could destroy the tanks more easily.

The skill you want added seems to be pretty much the reason for Soviet players to want to apply a real life tactic. So go ahead. However, I would suggest that instead of having the troops behind the tank be inmune to suppression, they should count as being in green cover. This reduces suppression, accuracy and damage, and seems pretty good both for gameplay and realism.

However, I´m thinking this skill should only apply to certain troops, instead of to all. Tank Riders, Strelky and Guards, maybe?

that's what I was thinking. The German ""blitzkrieg" was based on men, tanks, and planes working together. If we get the men and tanks working together then we got most of it

Re: Lock ability

I think "locking" with a tank is not a good idea
but that is my historical opinion because tanks
were most attacked first and with big calibers.
History showed that when infantry concentrate
behind a tank a lot of this soldiers were killed by
grenades which should hid the tank.
May the force be with you.

Re: Lock ability

Sure your right in some situations, attacking by artillery for example but that's the point you must use it tactical also this is a game which is not so realistic so i think it could be,added to the ostheer as a ability, its nice and good thing

Re: Lock ability

The idea sounds great, but in fact I think it would fit better to the US.

Germany destroyed Poland and France because of it's Blitzkrieg-Panzertactics, take for example Guderian in the early stage of war against Soviet Union: He and his tanks could win and get that fast through Russia in the first days of the war because he cared shit about flanks or waiting for infantry. He just steamrolled the Commies and attacked them by surprise.
Later, I think it was around early july '41 Hitler ordered him to secure the area first and wait for the IDs.  ::)

Seriously, I think the Nazis had won that much in the early stage of war because of their superior Panzer-tactics.
Stupid French had the superior tanks (think of that Char B1 with 140 hits and still made it out), but they used them in groups of 5 or even smaller.
Of course there was still the Stugs, being part of the Artillery, they were closer linked to the IDs.

If there'll be really such an ability for the Ostheer, I think it should only be possible with AFVs and StuG III.

Re: Lock ability

your right in something but that blitz works mainly in Poland,France and at start of Barbarossa when germans captured a lot of enemy territory but that was when Russians were unorganized and have low morale but later in around 43 situation was different there were more team work betwen panzer brigades and infantry, especially in urban warfare also i think that all armies sometime use this combination proceed while being covered by a vehicle in front of them, the troops can be shoted while they advance without it so whats better?...

Re: Lock ability

It makes sense to add this skill simply because the Germans were masters at tactics, and using tanks as cover is one of the oldest. Also, Lord Rommel, history might have proved it was a bad idea to hide behind a tank, but that was because it... well, because it actually happened.

As I commented earlier, the Russians used mortars to separate tanks from infantry. This tactic would help the Germans take territory when the enemy has no mortars since it would make their infantry (if my idea about locked squads acquiring green cover effects was implemented) more survivable. And if the tank is destroyed, well, then any HMG from the Americans or British can pin them down.

you do know hardly anyone reads those? I know that Burro said he would go into a coma and NO other dev responded

Re: Lock ability

Spartaman, you need to shut up about plagiarizing. Locking infantry to tanks is a skill that appeared in the Battle of the Bulge mod a long, looooong time ago, way before your concept...
