Question on slit trenches? minor annoyance

I noticed that when putting down slit trenches , there is no way to determine a froont to them. Reason is I set one up in my last game, in front of my base and put a squad of conscripts inside. They were facing my base when I scrolled in. I know they were expendable, but are they that dumb? Or do they fire from both sides of the trench. That was always an annoyance in OF that an entrenched squad could get killed from behind.
Can you put a direction arrow or something or is it not necessary because the AI, I know is smarter and can now fire front and rear?

They turn automatically to fire at any enemy that comes close.

Oversaw the issue, should be addressed in the first patch.

You will notice when putting up sand bags that one side has the bags and the other had a wood backing. If you want the back of the sand bags to be facing you soldiers you need to click and drag a certain direction, maybe its the same thing with the trenches. Not that the directions the sand bags face matters, just making a point.

No, they've always had the wooden backing. It doesn't matter though. You can sit on either side, you still get the cover bonus.

Same with trenches, they can fire at an enemy in any direction, and still be covered.
