Finns - Captured T34 hehe

The Finns called the T-34 Sotka after the Common Goldeneye, a sea duck, because the side silhouette of the tank resembles a swimming waterfowl (as related in the memoirs of Finnish tank ace Lauri Heino). The T-34-85 was called pitkäputkinen Sotka, 'long-barreled Sotka'.

interesting to add to the OstHeer as a call-in :)
I'd rather they were limited call-once only, though.

Yea. Iron Cross has Axis Shermans, Allied Panther.
MrScruffs made Soviet Shermans too.

Don't see it as hard to make Finnish T34s :)

I was proposing a captured tank battlegroup. With two T-34/76 and one IS-2





But it seems like it was not a very welcome idea :P

I'd prefer the captured tanks to be finnish :) Kill 2 birds
with one stone. If those are captured-by-germans, you
hurt inclusion of finnish chance :)

  2x T34+IS2? Too strong for a call-in battlegroup.
  A once-only 2x T34(85?) call-in, though, I like. They

The T-34 x2 call in I like too, and the the main upgrade could be made via individual upgrade (more expensive in ammo though). But once per battle...there were enough of them available for the germans and (as I said before somewhere) the Germans even captured a T-34 factory. It was not a so rare sight and was used in both the Waffen-SS and in the Wehrmacht

IS-2's were rarely captured, I don't think I've ever heard of one be used against Soviet forces. That particular one reads 'Destined for OKW', so it was probably heading to Kummersdorf for testing.

I think we'd rather use unique tanks for the Ostheer rather than recycling ;)

Oh! Well, if they were common (T34's) then perhaps put
a cap on them (2) but make them re-callable? (Like the 2

Im all for captured Finnish T-34's, but if the mod team is intent on making new models, add it as a reward unit, replacing the BT-42, if we go that far with Finns (I doubt it though).

If the devs really wanted a new model they could alter the T-34 abit, make it look abit more battle worn and add some camouflage and stuff to it etc. Like the missing side skirts from the one in the picture above

but no-one ever said there wasn't uniqueness in field modifications, so why not a Flakpanzer T-34(r)? it would definatly be more unique than a simple Captured T-34 Tank, and would give the Ostheer their own "unique" version of the Wirbelwind. It would just be as unique as say...the Bergetiger.

caputerd tanks should be involed in this game,
at least in the campain, a pritty dirty t-34 with a
finnish flag on its turret would fit in pritty good.

but dont take it in the ostheer, it would just take another
sensefull place.

That is something I would like to see in some form of or another. Either in the campaign or as a captured Ostheer unit

Finns called both versions of T-34's as Sotka. Pitkäputkinen Sotka is only the literal term which was hardly ever used outside paper reports... In combat they were all called as Sotka since it made no difference to the finns which ones they were, both were nasty...

Finns in COH, as a doctrine or something for ostheer? In deep russia? Are you people mad?? Besides, finns only captured 7 T-34/85's and only a couple of them were actually used against their former owners. Makes no sense give them those.

Most T-34's captured by the finns also had modifications done to them, mainly cosmetical.

Finns fought on East Front. Unless there is a pure
Finnish faction coming up, OstHeer is the *ONLY* chance
EVER of Finns making it into COH. a 3rd 'pure' german
faction would make way to a 4th pure german, 5th pure
german faction... sigh. No finns, ever :p

Kinda gives wrong impression if you ask me. Calling in FINNISH TANKS, makes it sound like as if there were loads of finnish tanks that were the best on whatever battlefield they fought on. Even if they are call-in. It still sounds a bit mighty.

Finns also bought captured t-34's from germany, which had german commander cupolas installed.

Finns didnt have flags on their vehicles, since the finnish swastika was enough to identify friends from foes. Besides, like 90% of times the tank that came by was an enemy.  :P

There was only one Bergetiger ever found (albeit various people suggest that more were produced or few were field modified tigers), and it's purpose in the game is most likely not even correct (the most "trustful" suggestion when looking at the winch is that it was for demolitions), yet, you can mass produce them and recover tanks with them, logic isn't one of the best things in Company of Heroes. :P

Im not to argue, just stating my opinion. I dont think finns in general, not as call-in or as doctrine arent needed unless theres a complete finnish army made, but thats another story then. I just dont think they fit into the mod. Its a nice and lovely idea but quite unnecessary in my eyes.

Finns would be cool if they were their own army tho. But how to balance them would be a different thing. :)

I'd rather have an OStHeer with plenty of other country
call-ins than yet a THIRD pure-german faction :p

Then a 4th, a 5th, a 20th...

All while there is only 1 US faction, etc ;)
All having their Pz4, and grenadiers, MG42's... ;)

... And let's not forget... their AT88... ;)
