Eastern Front Shoutcast

Greetings and welcome everybody to another Eastern Front Update. This time we present you a Shoutcast of a game with the Soviet Union.

The game is a 1v1 between Angstmann (Propaganda) and Greenapple (Terror), duking it out on Prague, commented on by Eastern Front Lead Developer Apex. It contains 35 minutes of non-stop action, sometimes so much lead flying through the air that you can barely hear Apex's commentary, although the ingame sounds are loud on purpose so you can hear our new speech, weapon and vehicle sounds.

Apex's talks about why Eastern Front is really more an expansion than a mod, and a must-have for every Company of Heroes player, as well as how the new no-retreat feature makes the Soviets a lot more tactical to play.

Shortly after the battle, the participating Red Army Major Ivan Danko was interviewed in a Medic Truck and had the following remarks about the fight:

- The Command Squad is vital for the early game of the Soviet Union, and should therefore be diverted more Vodka rations.

- Soviet Commanders whining about that they have to use reskinned American buildings will be sent to the Gulag.

- Commissars rock, but someone should tell them that Pistol bullets do not penetrate King Tiger armor.

- The Soviet Commander should consider using more support weapons against machine gun positions, to increase the average battlefield survival time of a conscript by a couple of seconds.

- Whether he could get an IS-2 for his daughters 18th birthday, because of the horrible traffic in Moscow.

- That next time they should really use PPSh-41 SMGs, just because they sound so good.

Also, the new sounds are bloody brilliant, well done whoever did those. And everyone else who ever worked on this thing  :)

Apple wasn't playing at full ability... the goal was never
for german wehr to win, but just to show off soviet game
functionality. Should have used a lot more unit types, though.
A map with waay more ressources, too :)

Most impressive! With most the mods out there, you expect some watered down, high schooler attempt. NOT HERE! As for that poor King trying desperately to get that IL2, that will become a classic match-up. Well done to the developers. I only hope we(the CoH faithful) will be able to play this online against the other foes.

That's what happens when you don't support your King Tiger... it should not be treated like an 'I WIN' button. 2 Paks would have kept those IS-2's back...

yes I did notice that green apple was not how do I say this without being a fuck or a hypocrite....not as good as I assume he was playing Apex? so how about this "apple was not a good as Apex"

Anyway - that engagement with the 2 IS2s and the King Tiger was bad ass.

I also loved the command squad that was alive for the first quarter of the game. At one point all of the guards died and only the comissar was left. He ended up finishing off a volks or grenadier squad with his Tokarev by himself - BADASS!

Apple wasn't trying to win.
He was just putting on a show for the showcasing of
the soviets. Notice how 99% of the whole fights were
at the exact same flags or so :)

Hello. I want to know how much will be this mod or will be probable free ? And about integration with COH : if I have COH bought through STEAM service, can I install it ?

Yes and youll be fine with steam. Both these questions need to be added to the FAQ

- I'm a Dev, I have the Steam version, it works fine
- The mod will come with an Auto-Installer so you just need to press 'Install', sitback and sip a fine Cognac or whatever people drink these days
- No, both players NEED to have this mod to play online

Thanks' very much for reply. It would be fine if this mod could be available through STEAM. Many users will find it interesting, so will be easy to download and install it.

I assume everybody on the Dev team would be thrilled at getting this mod for download over Steam, it would be awesome, but its really up to the guys at Steam. I'm not sure if we've contacted or are going to contact them... I can't say its not worth a try.

Of course :) Happy to. As soon as Steam sponsors/allows
mods to be downloaded/installed in such a way. Right now,
only the finished games n' patches can :(

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they only have HL1 and HL2 mods there.

Yeah they do... but maybe... just maybe... they could start accepting non-source game mods that are on Steam anyway. It would be even more awesome if we were the first.

They got "non-source" mods. For expample there are some mods for red orcestra and for killing floor available on steam. So there is a chance for releasing your great mod on steam.

I believe I asked this (or was thinking of asking) but I have a friend at my school his brother works for steam and he said it could be done so...hope

Love what I see! Look like a really well-balanced and adaptive fighting force, not as "limited" to a certain strategy like the Brits and PE. Really like your approach of the game sort of representing and summing up the "Great Patriotic war"; starting of with limited supplies and being unprepared but slowly getting the advantage and, if you play it right, steamrolling the opposition with huge assault forces!

Like to see that the player who won did so because he was the better one (what was the German player doing, sending his KT up like that into enemy territory without support?), not because he had an unfair advantage by playing the better team. Wehr and Red Army look really balanced!
