The russian faction status.

Ok , I really like how this mod looks and was wondering about the status of the russian faction.

Would it be possible to have the russian faction as a third faction type? I mean in multiplayer the russians should be able to fight with the allies against axis , however , I think it would be really cool if there was a third faction slot.

That is that allies could fight against russian faction also. Im not saying a three way battle, only 2 way.
This has some historical basis as there is accounts of western allied and russian units having skirmishes towards the end of the war.
It would bring in a cold war type feel to the game , a sort of  "what if?" scenario , which wasnt that far from actually happening.

You might think this is ridiculous but in my opinion it would really make the mod stand out even more.

Yes its nice to see the allies co -operate in battle against the axis but , the friendship of russia with the allies was an uneasy one , wouldn't it be awesome to have a 2 on 2 with 2 russians vs an american and a brit.
Conscripts storming riflemen and cromwells getting ripped apart by t34's ?

I know the focus is to get the mod released and Im not sure what kind of development this would need , I fully appreciate the situation at the moment for the team however I think this is a valid suggestion that could make the mod even more unique and interesting.

Even if you do it and the balancing isnt exactly right... Who cares?
Its all about fun and this aspect I believe would diversify the experience.

In any case Allies vs. The USSR will not be, after all what discrepancies in Company of Heroes (and in EF) were not, game is based on historical events!!!

Ok , It did happen that russians had small fights with allies at end of the war.
Its just an optional game mode , why would people want less when they can have more?

If to make such option it will be not an original mode but only a superfluous occasion to warm up hatred to the USSR.

theres nothign insidious involved here.Its just to give more options and make the game more fun.

for the USSR and Germany ALREADY... so, meh. There have
been suggestions of putting soviets as Axis and Allied BOTH
so could have british+soviet vs german+soviet... or
soviet vs soviet or... although interesting, the period of the
mod is 1943-1945 about. Cold war was after that.

So Soviets allied only ;)

1937-1940 : Soviets : Axis.
1941+ : Soviets : Allied
1946+ : Soviets : Axis ;)

Its not like the mod is going for uber realism , after all it is a game . I dont think it would be right to have russia allied with axis in battles only on her own or with allies.

BATTERIES, Though it and game - it is not necessary to do such option because of pair skirmishes. Much like realism!

The Soviets aren't going on the Axis side too, that's just ridiculous... we already have a plan for an extra Axis side, so wait for that.

You have russians with americans and british or against americans and british .
You have russians only against axis , they cannot ally with axis.
Its fairly simple.

No, its not simple... that would require not only adding the Soviets to Allied side, but giving them an entirely different group too, something the cannot be done. Don't go calling people 'narrow-minded fools' when your idea is clearly unworkable.

I will call you narrow minded fools because the idea was misconstrued by everyone who replied and also , when I elaborated I mentioned that I did not know wether this idea was realistic or "workable".
Furthermore maybe you would be more productive if you didnt jump to the " theres no way I can do this " conclusion and try challanging youself for a second.
If you dont like the idea (which I cannot understand why you wouldnt because its clearly better to have 2 options instead of 1 ) , it doesnt make you pragmatic , it just shows how devoid you are of idealistic insight , therefore = narrowminded fool.
Dont miss out on this because Im an obnoxious person , wether you like me or not is neither here nor there , its the idea that has merit.

Just calm down, man. Relic has some of the worst mod support ever seen in a game and this team has spent the last two years jumping through hurdles. Now they're ready to release it! There's no way they'd do something like this right before the release.

So you want us to waste our coders time by getting us to set them useless tasks? We are a working mod team who have better things to do than  mucking around with idea's that probably won't work and, even if they did work, would upset the balance of the entire game. This is the wrong place for asking modders to experiment...

Excuse me sir, but it would seem that these people have already taken leaps and bounds out of their comfort zone in order to bring you this mod.  Criticizing their resolve only shows how narrow your mind is.

Again I need to repeat what Ive said before to answer your silly responses.
1. I said I love how the mod has come along and gratz.
2. I said that I appreciate the position the modding team are in at the moment, logically you must have priorities.
3. I said it may not be "workable" right off the bat.
4. I said that even if its done and the balance vs the allies isnt completly fair , who really would care. Its an extra bonus mode that friends can have some fun with , they arent going to cry and say the mod in unbalanced.
5. I never said anything to devalue the mod or bring it into disrepute.

Its an excellent looking mod , most promising Ive seen in many years . I still think the idea is feisable and would be appreciated by all.
And calling me a kid , even if it makes you feel better doesnt really make sense as Ive more than likely been playing games since before you were born.

BATTERIES , The idea is very bad. As the option offered by you will push away from a mode very much a considerable quantity of the players loving historical reliability. And in general, you have told that the idea is impossible!
And you as the idiot try that that to prove...

I suppose it could make an interesting final mission to the campaign if someone could dig out a good example.

There was a British-Soviet battle right at the end of Hidden and Dangerous 2. Obviously the Brits won.

Whilst the idea is quite good in theory, I think its would be too much effort for something so small, and basing the positioning of factions on some loose reports is to me the same reasoning for adding a Maus to a new German faction.

Besides nobody here seems to particaularly like the sound of it.

Haha H&D was an awesome game, despite me being awful at it  :D
That idea for a little Easter Egg campaign mission would be pretty cool methinks.
Although if you really want to get the fans all rabid, make it Manchuria  :P

Hmm I never thought of using a bonus mission like that , I mean after berlin mission and credits or something, that would be very interesting and cool.
I'll see if I can find some evidence , I heard of these skirmishes a while ago.

Sure, campaign mission would be interesting :)
But squirmish/classic play? (Multiplayer?) Nooo... :)
