Making COH: EF a patch

I was talking to a friend (axis rock) today about the mod and he said "it sure is gonna be a shame when the mod dies" (as most mods do) so I was wondering sense you lads had a great relationship with the chaps at thq and relic if they would be so kind enough to make it a patch after they have tested it enough yeah? A mod that would never die!

Re: Making COH: EF a patch

I would love for this happen. However I don't think this would go over well in terms of legal issues. I would imagine the easiest way to do it is if the mod creators hand over full ownership of the mod to THQ/Relic - which some people may not like :/

how would some people not like that? They would still get FULL credit for making the whole thing

I don't know if Relic would be cool with giving them credit. Imagine if one of the developers agrees to handing over the mod but then turns around and sues Relic for intellectual property theft.

well then that man is an asshole and the other devs would surly take the other side and get things straight

Re: Making COH: EF a patch

Hmm, well, it's be awesome if we could get everyone using this.
Then we'd only need to use a single version of COH, ever ;)
You know, there are many people in the country today who, through no fault of their own, are sane. Some of them were born sane. Some of them became sane later in their lives. It is up to people like you and me who are out of our tiny little minds to try and help these people overcome their sanity

Re: Making COH: EF a patch

Well, how do the DEVs feel about forcing the mod unto
Relic, to make sure they make it to be the 'official' version?
Everyone's GOTTA play soviets ;)

I don't understand, but making it a patch will allow every one to play as the "soviets" and relic will update it and make it better (with dev support)

Re: Making COH: EF a patch

Well, there are legal implications, yak, yak, yak... sigh.
But where there is a will there is way. Wouldn't be nice for
the OTHER mods, though.

I figure if enough people switch to EF: full time, then,
perhaps Relic will do something. / But, hm a lot of people are
into ranking games and the like... so It'd be a hard fight.

Re: Making COH: EF a patch

I wonder why Relic would turn down the EF mod...  Its even 10x better than ToV imo.

Re: Making COH: EF a patch

- Aaaaaactually...
- Now that I think about it from a DEV's point of view, TOV
is pretty awesome. Adds new playstyles, REWARD EXTRA
units... and a few other things. such as the Tiger Ace
campaign controls (Hero units). Which gives a loooot more
leeway (heritage coding) to modding! :)

Now it's time to take advantage of these and make an
uber ton of soviet reward units! (SU122!!!)(BA64!)(T26!)
(Sigh, okaaaaay... T35?) :)

I have talked to people on the forums and in-game. It is strange but people really hate mods for some reason.......ask strangers in-game you will understand

they will say "lol you play mods?", "mods?? pfffffffft!", and other stuff

Re: Making COH: EF a patch

Yea, well mods...
This one is vanilla style. Not 'I am uber, and bots are weak'.
If Relic adopts it, then it's not a mod anymore is it? :)

exactly and that is my point if people see the "relic" logo on somthing they would be more than willing to download it (or make it a patch so they don't have to)

Re: Making COH: EF a patch

- Well, wouldn't be the first time a company outsourced
some work. I can cite tons of examples. Then when the work
was done, put it under their logo.
Heck, it might improve sales of COH, if people flock to game
to play it. Examples are Half Life, when some people went nuts
over some of the mods :)

: Day of Defeat is $#@$(@*!$ awesome mod in it's time :D

Yea, I know you are a brit :)
Oh, hey, I have a friend. Cute girl. French. Plays COH.
Sisi. She might be going there to a private very strict school
soon. She's so sad she won't be able to barrage the opponent
into submission anymore :D

Re: Making COH: EF a patch

The reason why this will never be an official patch is quite simple: Relic would be forced to give support for something they didn't create. The way modders create their mods is vastly different to the way Relic creates their games. On the other hand the EF team just can't give support to the full extent as we don't have access to all the sources and will never get this access. In addition to this it's hard to provide a Relic-like support for a team that doesn't create games / mods as a full-time job.

Re: Making COH: EF a patch

Well Iron Cross works a lot like vanilla, though. Its sweet.
Blitzkrieg is almost a different game :)
EF will be vanilla compatible just about, so it's 'safe' for
your skills ;)
