Steam Version of EF will not launch

This morning I tried to launch EF as I have done almost every day since its arrival and it will not open.  This is the STEAM version and it has worked flawlessly for as long as I can remember.  I went on the STEAM support forum and saw that others were having the same problem along the same timeline.  I hate to sound like an idiot but was there an upgrade (British?) that was just performed?  I have not made any changes to my system or LAN so its hard to track down the source of the problem.  STEAM support was useless btw.  Any help would be appreciated.

Verify game integrity of vanilla CoH1. That should fix it.

Sounds easy enough but could you walk me through what steps are needed to verify "vanilla COH"?  Many thanks!

1) Right-click on Company of Heroes: Eastern Front.
2) Click on properties.
3) Click on Local Files tab.
4) There you will see "Verify Integrity of Game Files". Click on that.
5) Wait for it to verify and update its files.
6) Do the same for COH
