Russians and supression

first off, I'd like to say hello and good job to this fantastic team of modders, their work is inspirational to us all.

Now off to my question, ive read the guide several times, and im still wondering, what do the russians have in the way of supressing the enemy and dealing with supression?

sorry if i've posted this in the wrong section, and thanks for reading this!

Re: Russians and supression

are you talking about the Gaurd unit? Yes they can not get supressed, this has been talked about already and they stated the fact that this is not OP cause they would still get banged up if they charged at a mg42

Re: Russians and supression

Yes, but he also asked how the Russian can suppress. Afaik, the mg bunkers in the propaganda strategy and vehicle mg's are it

Re: Russians and supression

i already knew about the bunkers, i forgot to mention that, but i didn't know that vehicle MGs could supress. thanks for the info

Well, that and 10-on-1 odds... don't need suppression
bonuses, just fire from conscripts could suppress pretty
good, I wager. Don't you think?

Seeing a huge solid wall of bloodthirsty soviets
would be plenty enough to keep anyone nice, calm,
quiet, docile, and quite submissive, thank you.
You know, there are many people in the country today who, through no fault of their own, are sane. Some of them were born sane. Some of them became sane later in their lives. It is up to people like you and me who are out of our tiny little minds to try and help these people overcome their sanity

Re: Russians and supression

To deal with suppresion the Russian has the Commander's heroic charges, the For the mother land ability and Inspiring Speech. Another option is kill what ever is suppresing you. It is important to know that the Russians are more vaunable to suppresion because they can't retreat, so a well placed mine or a Nebelwerfer might be quite devastating. Only time will tell if it will be OP.
You can play all the other faction without useing any kind of suppresion, so I don't think that it will be a big problem for the Russians, that being said I would like to have the option to build an mg, to deal with granadiers and PG blobs.

I don't count any stationary defence as suppression as you opponent will only go in your trap one time.

With the exception of the Wirbelwind and the American halftruck the mg on tanks are only the secondary weapon and you will hardly buy a tank just for the suppresion, beside their suppresion is often quite low.

Hope that helped.

Ah I was using 2 volks squads and they were hiding behind a wall and suddenly all of them fired at once suppressing a squad of rifle men! lol it was funny (then I used those German nades to get the rest of them)

Re: Russians and supression

A lot of factions have a weakness somewhere, to 'pay' for
a strenght elsewhere. Gives it flavor. Quicker in early game,
for weaker in late game. And so on. I'm all for the soviets
having all kinds of maluses if it helps pay for their other
strenghts. All long as it all balances out in the end.

He's got a point, though.

BTW, er, tank MG suppression should be greater, I think.
As a person, I don't think of incoming MG fire as a light,
refreshing brisk wind... ;)

Re: Russians and supression

The only problem with Russian suppression is that they have no mobile way to suppress, unless the T-90 fills that gap.

what do the Americans have?

Re: Russians and supression

Americans have .30 cal. Also ignore me, I play as Wehr pretty exclusively, so I always think in terms of fight American/ British blobs.

Re: Russians and supression

Well, with high HE values, I'd think the T34's would be
a fairly nice way to suppress infantry, especially in gang :)
Giving a nice reason to get the damned thing ! :D
