Eastern Front not working on Steam (right now)

Hello guys,

Sorry for the silence occurred last week about the mod. Since the last couple of weeks Relic released a patch that broke the use of custom DLLs and custom factions, so Eastern Front no longer works with the Steam version.

We have planned to make a new version compatible with 2.602, but we have been waiting for Relic's answer about our current issues, because, as everyone know, we have been greenlit and this would mean we cannot release it on Steam at all. Since Relic no longer makes the patches for Company of Heroes, but a company named Smoking Gun Interactive, we think there was some sort of miscomunication. So, we will take a decision after we have Relic's answer.

Anyway, when we have Relic's answer, we will update this announcement. But Eastern Front is not going to be stopped, at worse case scenario, we would just release it for the last retail version (or the "regular" Steam version).

Hey, it's great news that you will continue yours masterpiece but I have one question. My first experience with CoH were with not original game version. CoH made a impression on me so I decided to supported producer and buy orginal but it's key for steam, I don't have retail CD's" CoH; CoH:OF and CoH:ToV. I have on my steam library orginal keys for CoH; CoH:OF and CoH:ToV. If you decided to return to last retail version what should I do?

Just use the key in steam to activate a product and you will receive retail version (2.602) and the new steam version.

Do you mean install via steam CoH:ToV and use keys for unlock invasion of Normandy and Opposing Fronts campaigns, right?

You can use ToV on Steam too, the regular version, to play EF(however I think campaigns appear locked). It is not necessary to install the retail version, unless you really want to do it.

Just that instead of using the launcher, you would need to go to the library and in the ToV properties, add the following command lines "-dev -mod Eastern_Front".

If this could be the possible workaround, means I need to downgrade it to 2.6 and to get he CD key from Steam right (Though have no idea where to search for the key as they did not mention it for digital downloads from Steam).

Hopefully there will be a solution for it as missing the game so much XD

You wouldn't believe how relieved me and my clan feel right now. We really appreciate the huge amount of time and dedication you guys and and have put into making this amazing mod. Thank you for all your hard work, and keeping us updated. I can't wait to see Eastern Front pop up on my screen again. :)

I have tried everything to get this to work. can you explain better how to do this ?

I have installed the regular version of coh and opposing fronts and ToV from steam and installed the EF mod in that folder and updated it then i go to my library and go to tov properties and have put the command lines in the box that says "set launch options" and have tried it several different ways but either the game starts with no EF or the game wont start at all.

what am I doing wrong ?

Are you sure you installed Eastern Front in the "Company of Heroes" folder and not in any other different path?

yes I manually set the path to the Company of heroes folder instead of the "company of heroes steam version". I also manually set the path for all the updates and updated EF till the last update.

I did set the path just to the Company of Heroes folder and did not go inside the first folder.

It is probably my mistake, I forgot to add one underscore, I just fixed it: -dev -mod Eastern_Front

well it almost works.

now it goes all the way to "press any key to start the game' and when you hit a key it crashes to desktop

I guess you are playing the lattest version of EF on the old CoH. We haven't released a patch to make it compatible, so you can only play EF up to 1.7 with it.

Being Greenlit is great ! Congrats and I am a huge supporter, BUT this broken Mod is hurting your Brand. Credibility is at risk every day that passes that this is not repaired. Many things are out of our control in life but somehow we make it happen. Those are the successful companies, and this is no easy business to be in.

That being said I await the fix of this MOD.

Hello, at the beginning I want to thanks for your patience for my questions. I couldn't post earlier due to lost my web connection. So, I installed via Steam CoH:ToV and used keys from my library to unlock all game content. It's looks like it will be works fine, all campaignes were unlocked and game is in v.2.602. I'm worry about online playing because there's no options for me to create Relic account (button "Create account" is not highlighted for me) and I'm seeing info that "You are offline". I hope Guys you will have ideas how to play online using older CoH version. For now I played against AI but in the future if I will have more freetime I'd like to try compete with other players.

Thanks for the update regarding EF's future. I have been playing the original COH and it just isn't near the same experience etc. Recently I have had problems with Steam crashing everytime I exit out of COH. Is life without Steam possible?

I'd like to just tell You, dear devs, that making MOD work on new steam version with recent patch is possible. At least, "Modern Combat" released a hotfix. Don't worry that much, then. Good luck on further work, being greenlit.

Appreciate for EF team work!!

I put "-dev -mod Eastern Front" into set launch options box but still doesn't work(no respond when I start with steam ToV launcher)

And now I can't even sign in with ToV and can only play offline with computers, what is your status ?

The servers are shut down, so you'll always need your game disc to verify the game from now on if you plan to use 2.602. However, you could also use a mini image/disc image of your legally purchased version to start it up if your cd broke or something.

Hi Thanks very very much, but I am Steam user and I don't have disc. Can I use my steam product key activate a CD or mds file?
If yes, could you tell me where I can download a CoH mds file ?

Sorry I am not a expert and EF is the only game I can play.

First of all, I would like to congratulate and thank the EF team for coming this far and giving us so much joy and excitement through this mod. Frankly, this is my first day in the group and my first post. I would just like to say that i have been a fan of this mod since the beginning and had only stopped playing since 1.7 due to the mod moving to steam so I would really appreciate it, including a bunch of friends of mine if the mod would continue to develop the one compatible to the previous one, allowing us to be a consistent participant of the glory that is EF. After being away a while my game wouldn't start to find out steam had taken over, took awhile to sort it out, then I got to play EF I like the mod had a break for a week or two to find an update then it wouldnt start again.
Why do they have to patch all games just to break something else.
I cant wait for it to be fixed i want to try the new faction out Ive put two other players onto this mod and what they saw they liked.
Thanks for keeping us updated re the EF not working if it wasnt for your forums I would have been going nuts by now.

That is up to Relic, last time we talked about it, they said they were going to check it out and give us some news. If Relic doesn't do anything, I guess we will do something, but that would be the last step to do.

Greenlit means we will be downloaded from Steam directly in the future.

Guess multiplayer will have to wait. But apparently, so will singleplayer in 2.602. Is the official page with all CoH patches found at RelicCOH.com inaccessible for anyone else? In fact, I can't even connect to the site. It's non-existant.

Well, relic fixed the bug on their end for the most part in the realcent patch to the steam version of COH. so now all we have to do is fix a bug on our end, release a patch, and it should all be working again :)
