Aren't Jagers just Weaker Stormtroopers?

I don't believe I have yet congratulated you guys on this mod, especially the Ostheer! ;D
A-lot of time went into polishing them and making them unique and I appreciate that so I find it hard to complain about any of their units or mechanics but I have to ask: Aren't Jagers just weaker Stormtroopers? All Jagers have that set them apart is being able to set Teller Mines and getting G43s with the muni-sniper ability. Meanwhile, Stormtroopers have more health, better armor (Airborne versus Elite) a camouflage ability and being able to mix-and-match weapon loadouts so you can have all STGs or 2 STGs and 1 Pz or 2 Pzs. With Jagers you can only choose all STGs, all G43s or all PZs. Are Gwehrs and Anti-Tank mines really enough to make Jagers seperate but equal to Stormtroopers? Of course you could argue they aren't supposed to be like Stormtroopers but I would disagree as they both are Doctorine specific top-of-their-class infantry with the same CP cost and (for the most part) similar usage and weaponry. Is there something about Jagers I'm missing (besides the awsome name)?

You're right and wrong at the same time :P

Jägers use Elite armour (75% rec. damage/75% rec accuracy) and have 90 hitpoints. Those are equal to vet 2 stats from Stormtroopers, which is correct. However, Stormtroopers without vet 2 do not have a better armourtype, they use tp_infantry, which is the same as Volks and riflemen have. Wehr units do not possess airborne armour infantry.

These stats do not sound too impressive, however, they get the normal vet bonuses from Ostheer on top (less rec. accuracy less reload, longer burst durations, less received damage, more accuracy, more damage etc), so they essentially become a lot more potent than Stormtroopers in the course of the game.

Also, their abilities and weapon packages are completely suited to support an early vehicle, especially if you're using Panzerkrieg. Dual Wehrmacht (!) schrecks for 100 ammo are very cost efficient, the Tellermines provide engine damage + massive damage to light vehicles and make it easier for schrecks to hit their targets. If you compare them to tank hunters: Tankhunters have less men, their schreck deals 25% less damage (120 -> 90) and they require teching to get a 2nd schreck. Jägers get them out of the box. 3x G43 also make them very potent on every range, and they also benefit a lot from Panzerkrieg. 4x MP44 for 125 are also cheaper than their Wehr counterparts.

So, overall they're more suited for offense rather than sneaky flanking.

yeah I thought Jagers had Airborne armor but I was looking at Panzer Jagers who share half a name  :P

Anyway that all sounds well and good, it is true that fully equiped Stormtroopers are a massive sink to munitions and I wasn't sure about the usefullnes of Jager Gewehrs since the Panzer elite versions have failed me many times. this reminded me to ask since you mentioned it alot: what is the range of PanzerKrieg?

15m-20m as far as I remember. You have to stay sort of close to the vehicle, but you still can spread out slightly.

Remember that Wehr infantry only gets defensive boni with vet, while Ostheer seems to receive a nice combo of offensive and defensive boni.

However I am a bit lost with the G43 pack, while the G43 looked better with long, mid range acc and cooldowns, when I saw the target tables, they looked underperforming at first sight than their standard rifles. I'm pretty sure that I'm missing something really important, but what thing? (apart from the snipe ability).  ???

Any strategy that involves G43 Jaegers? I prefer to choose the all mighty MP44
